he's messed up...and i love him cos he's not just a cynical bastard who thinks the world of nothing but himself. He actually analyzes life as opposed to simply living it according to a structured means of control that is defined by the general public and our neuroses.
i am happy that someone as unusually profound as i consider myself has made it and is making large amounts of people laugh....Honesty is the key.
@fasokp I don't think Katy Perry has fucked him up. I think she's a reprieve for him both literally and figuratively. California is a whole 'nother ballgame. The city is a monster, more so than NY. It will play w/you like a cat pawing a mouse and then go for the kill, leave you barely breathing, and then revive you to do another song and dance routine, ie Britney Spears. Brand is in the first phase of glowing reviews...
i love russell and think he is the best but why cant he be a bit more like this normally, he seems to be getting a little more crazy and stupid now that its taken off in america. this is the russell you would want to hang out with, not the russell off of those shitty entertainment shows
dawn french is a brilliant interviewer and russell is an excellent interviewee. im so glad russell has been such a sucess because he's always really deserved it. I am borrowing booky wook off a friend and can't wait to read it after seeing this interview.
About 5 years ago, I went out with friends to a stand-up show in a little pub venue somewhere in London (it was in an area that begins with 'P'...Putney?) and I was surprised and thrilled to discover that Russell Brand (BBBBM,BH&BCs) was part of the line-up. Anyway, as he began his bit (set?) a small spider landed on his arm and he randomly went off on a hilarious tangent about this spider for about 20mins. He is an absolute master of improvisation and sublime ridiculousness.
This is definately the best interview ive seen. He doesnt give all the typical answers, he's totally honest with himself and other people. He's right about what makes you who you are in a way, everyone has the same basic kind of make of who they are, but its also about how they handle insecurity and jelousy and how they feel about it themselves.
i just love the way he thinks, and i think that the reason alot of people dont like him is because they dont understand the way he thinks
i COMPLETELY agree! lots of people i know dont understand him, and think he's just crude and acts camp to get attention. but actually he has a beautifully elequent way of thinking and speaking, and for that he intrigues me. he is so unconventional, and it's just so refreshing to have someone with such a beautiful mind having the confidence to let people know about it.
you read my mind. I've just finished reading his book, and I nearly cried at the end. He has such a beautiful heart.
This is the second time I've watched this interview, and I think Im going to go to bed and cry myself to sleep. He is one of the very few people I would like to sit down and have a meal and yack with.
First of all lt me say that I have always loved Russell Brand since the first time I heard of him...secondly, I love this interview..because it doesnt seem like an ''actual interview'' it seems like they are having an actual conversation which is always great and ,this seems so real..whereas other interviews in general with anyone seem so rehearsed and third Ms. French is an EXCELLENT interviewer!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I know all of you will abuse me for saying this, but surely (as even Russell would agree) I have the right to give my opinion. That's all it is, my opinion. So don't get all flustered over it: I think this man is as deep as a puddle and as funny as a terminal illness.
i love all the comments people have left on this interview. it makes sense that the people who would be attracted to russell brand would be similarly cool.
I do. They could focus on the flaws. I find that the stronger a person's personality is, the more people with weak personalities do that as defense mechanism. Russell is self-assured, and those who aren't can't stand that he is and they aren't.
i agree with that, i think its what makes people insecure, its what people scared of stereotype or judgment but also scared of themselves and how they act or re-act to people around them and scenarios they find themselves in. I respect russell alot because its obvious he understands that and constantly tries to over come that to be himself and to be genuine i can relate to that alot, it is something thats incredibly difficult to do but worth putting the effort into and is incredibly rewarding =)
what a beautiful deep and generally loving guy.he has this amazing look on life and i think its great that a lot of people hate him because i think his fans truely respect and embrace him.rock on russell we love you
Yes there are definitely a lot of people who dislike him. Like I got into an argument with this one person about him and my friend really dislikes him, but she has never seen anything that he has done except for the VMAs. I think that if everyone saw him like this, then there would be less hate for him.
But oh well, we love him and there are so many more fans who love him as well.
I thought he was a deep man from seeing some of his stand up. I love the way he's identified at not following what you love, but learning from it and knowing yourself, to the point of being one with the universe. Very cool. :)
he is amazing, reminds me of the bill moyers interview with Joseph Campbell. Russell has found his bliss and is attractive as a result of it, able to thrive and become successful because he does what he loves. And of course being extremely gorgeous doesn't hurt :)
I totally agree with KillerTofu's comment.... it is a little heart breaking... I'm a huge fan of his, I really enjoy his comedy, but it's brief moments like this that really endear him to me. To see how pure and beautiful he still is after everything he's experienced is a great achievement. i would reccommend RE:Brand to anyone who hasn't seen it..the difference between then and now is astounding and I am in awe of how he's managed to come out the other end as such a gentle and lovely human <3
this man is a legend.when i first starting watching these interveiws i was absolutely blown away by his humanity and honesty.a very brilliant human being
Wow. Seeing him like this is just so insightful, I never knew just how much he went through to become the person he is today, and he's done so with such grace and come out being so funny and adoreable. Russell's a true role model <3
It's a little strange seeing him without all the 'frosting'. When he's all honest and insightful, sometimes it's a little heartbreaking. I just want to give him a cuddle!
This was a cool interview. I've only ever seen him act kind of... well... obnoxious. But it's cool to see this side of him.... I think I understand him and his sense of humor a bit better now....
Totally agree! I love him on-stage, but his shreaking femininity and funny voices have started to grate on me abit :( Just wish he was a bit more like this on-stage now!
Yeah, exactly. Like I know he likes to straddle the line of "socially acceptable masculinity" but sometimes its a little annoying. And yeah, I guess the screaming gets annoying too, cuz after a while his words start to run together a bit. But this side of him is nice to see. :)
yeah, i agree. I think its easier for him to be vulnerable and honest in a one-on-one situation, whereas on a big stage in front of hundreds of people he puts a bit more pressure on himself to be over the top and flamboyant. But I believe he is a beautiful and intelligent man who will only get better. We'll continue to see him grow and expand his material. Love you Russell!!!
He is just so loveable in his own persona. He's funny, but he's not arrogant about it or selfish, and that just makes him more beautiful as a person. If anyone gets what I mean. :)
Wow- I've fallen even more for him now-What is it about him? Love his thought process, love his jokes, love his bone-structure I love Russell Brand- there, I've said it!
You've spoken the words straight from my mind! He is such a creation, there is no word to describe him.. I'd say he is flawless but a flawless man is a man of most flaws.
I have only relatively recently discovered Russell Brand. Not only is he obviously talented (and grew up round the corner from me as an Essex boy!) but he is obviously such a soft and gentle person that a lot can be learned from him. I am keen to find out a lot more about him... and I've already read his book!
the last few seconds of the video, where he explains who he seeks approval from seemed so vulnerable and yet so beautiful to me. overall the interview really gave a good look into what goes on in his pretty little head :) if only more people could watch this and find out what he's really all about...
thanks for uploading this, great interview with an amazing person...if only everyone took that much time to understand people and the world we live in
i believe he acts this way in this interview because he's not in charge and hasn't got a direct audience that he has to address or entertain
on the radio he acts like this a little, but because he's in charge and the fact it's a comedy entertainment show is at the forefront of his mind, his performing side shines brighter and is more dominant. but this side of him definately seeps through
This guy is totally totally amazing. I just finished reading his book and I have so much admiration for him now. This interview was amazing and my god does he look hot! :) Thanks for uploading!
I could listen to him talk about anything for hours. I love how intellectual and beautiful and original his thinking process is. People who call him stupid for harmlessly picking at the Jonas Brothers can drop dead because this man is truly brilliant.
Well Saidd And He Said Sorry To The Jonas Brothers Aswell So People Are Just Pathetic If They Hate Him For That The Jonas Brothers Even Like Him They Think Hes Great And I Totally Agree I Love Him And The Jonas Brothers !
the bit about his self-awareness making him very empathetic is so insightful, its a shame that self-obsession does not always mean self-awareness or there'd be a lot less hideous people in the world!
i think pretty much all of the below comments sum up my opinion of russell.. he is an amazing man. i love how his mind works! he just facinates me.. and he inspires me to better myself. brilliant interview!
Brilliant~ the man has an organic talent. Love him. The way he recieve's views and opinions on every day life and then analyse's them really does stem from a unique ane eccentric mind! Thankyou for putting this interview on here!xXx
This is such a fantastic interview. He has such depth and at the same time brings his life forth in his comedy because as he says it is universal. Wow - he is so talented.
I think he's funny when he's being funny, but when he's being sort of very frank, and serious and honest, i find him much more fascinating because you know that way that his comedy isn't some accident of mad nonsense constantly pouring out of him but the product of something much more articulate.
totally - it's interesting how some people sense that and others don't.
i think he separates the deep from the relatively shallow like that - cos the latter can't see beyond the 'image' and think it's ALL about show - it just shows what kind of people they are - he's the embodiment of the anti-cynic and cynics/the obtuse don't like/get it. haha - now i'm being needlessly insulting.
The part where he mentions his various times in rehab etc... I reckon he must've been one of the most interesting people those psychologists had to deal with. His wit is so sharp I think, they'd have to watch what they said. Glad he's doing well for himself atm. Hope he keeps doing comedy well into the future!
I thouroughly enjoyed thie interview. I love the way he keeps your attention with everything he says, hes very philosophical. When he called himself a dickhead, made me laugh. I love Russell Brand ^_^. I really do think I would replace Matt as his best friend given half the chance x], well I'd try to!

Yeah, exactly. Like I know he likes to straddle the line of "socially acceptable masculinity" but sometimes its a little annoying. And yeah, I guess the screaming gets annoying too, cuz after a while his words start to run together a bit. But this side of him is nice to see. :)

It is nice seeing this side of him. :)

idk... i dont mind it lol
enigmaCSS 2 years ago
yeah, i agree. Love you Russell!!!

oh my god check it out if you pause it right at the begining in the first second he looks so HOT...he looks alittle pensive but hot nonetheless
Cornp97 2 years ago
i KNOW!
omg
although
hot the whole way through is he not?
jennaisswell 2 years ago 3
He is just so loveable in his own persona. He's funny, but he's not arrogant about it or selfish, and that just makes him more beautiful as a person. If anyone gets what I mean. :)
Larab3lla 2 years ago 3
i agree with everyone with how russell is great and all
but hasnt anyone noticed that dawn french is a damn gd interviewer with questions that let him express himself really well?
just a thought

Brilliant.
His words really speak truth, I hope to become half as good a human being as he is.
saiyanrobot 2 years ago 4
He is a sex addict through no fault of his own, he makes all the women fall in love with him and then is at the mercy of his own hormones.
If I ever met him.. God better restrain me. :)

i love his honesty

You've spoken the words straight from my mind! He is such a creation, there is no word to describe him.. I'd say he is flawless but a flawless man is a man of most flaws.

HA! That is actually a good piece of advice.

I have only relatively recently discovered Russell Brand. Not only is he obviously talented (and grew up round the corner from me as an Essex boy!) but he is obviously such a soft and gentle person that a lot can be learned from him. I am keen to find out a lot more about him... and I've already read his book!
MIKE1238673 3 years ago 8
Amazing interview!! He has such a beautiful outlook on humanity & an incredibly gentle soul... Brilliant!!
defi79 3 years ago 13
the last few seconds of the video, where he explains who he seeks approval from seemed so vulnerable and yet so beautiful to me. overall the interview really gave a good look into what goes on in his pretty little head :) if only more people could watch this and find out what he's really all about...
lulacrazygirl7 3 years ago 9
thanks for uploading this, great interview with an amazing person...if only everyone took that much time to understand people and the world we live in
jacuzzikillers 3 years ago 6
i believe he acts this way in this interview because he's not in charge and hasn't got a direct audience that he has to address or entertain
on the radio he acts like this a little, but because he's in charge and the fact it's a comedy entertainment show is at the forefront of his mind, his performing side shines brighter and is more dominant. but this side of him definately seeps through
PeteDohertyIsADrug 3 years ago
This guy is totally totally amazing. I just finished reading his book and I have so much admiration for him now. This interview was amazing and my god does he look hot! :) Thanks for uploading!

I could listen to him talk about anything for hours. I love how intellectual and beautiful and original his thinking process is. People who call him stupid for harmlessly picking at the Jonas Brothers can drop dead because this man is truly brilliant.
UpYourKeister 3 years ago 10
Well Saidd And He Said Sorry To The Jonas Brothers Aswell So People Are Just Pathetic If They Hate Him For That The Jonas Brothers Even Like Him They Think Hes Great And I Totally Agree I Love Him And The Jonas Brothers !
So Yeaa I Totally Agree With You.

the bit about his self-awareness making him very empathetic is so insightful, its a shame that self-obsession does not always mean self-awareness or there'd be a lot less hideous people in the world!

Great Interview Seems like such a genuine Guy
wheels1988 3 years ago 8
Very sensitive individual, I can imagine him being quieter when the cameras aren't on, weirdly I can also imagine him being shy in certain scenarios.
burnsybaby1987 3 years ago 12
i've seen him do the odd interview where he was VERY subdued - the contrast was very clear -
spotlitkiss 3 years ago
This is such a fantastic interview. He has such depth and at the same time brings his life forth in his comedy because as he says it is universal. Wow - he is so talented.
sting8209 3 years ago 18
I think he's funny when he's being funny, but when he's being sort of very frank, and serious and honest, i find him much more fascinating because you know that way that his comedy isn't some accident of mad nonsense constantly pouring out of him but the product of something much more articulate.
sanerthanyou 3 years ago 31
totally - it's interesting how some people sense that and others don't.
i think he separates the deep from the relatively shallow like that - cos the latter can't see beyond the 'image' and think it's ALL about show - it just shows what kind of people they are - he's the embodiment of the anti-cynic and cynics/the obtuse don't like/get it. haha - now i'm being needlessly insulting.
spotlitkiss 3 years ago 2
The part where he mentions his various times in rehab etc... I reckon he must've been one of the most interesting people those psychologists had to deal with. His wit is so sharp I think, they'd have to watch what they said. Glad he's doing well for himself atm. Hope he keeps doing comedy well into the future!
themurge 3 years ago 12
Fantastic. Best interview I've seen of him by far. He's a very honest and intelligent man. Right impressed and more in love than ever.
strangerthanudreamt 3 years ago 11
he's so honest and genuine, it's really refreshing. and that bit about the way people talk on telly was spot on.

- Thanks for posting also!
