The whole album was recorded as a demo for Frank Sinatra to enable him to decide if he wanted to record it.That is a separate recording. It remains unclear why Jake Holmes and Valli did this demo
Yes it makes you wonder what Valli would have made of the rest of the songs. I do prefer this version to Sinatra's droning vocal but some people love it...just not me....Casey
I love the Watertown album, even though Sinatra's voice was pretty much gone by then. On the other hand, Jake Holmes' AAAA rhyme schemes really wear after awhile...Steve
It may be the song's composer, Bob Gaudio, of The Four Seasons.
By the way, where did you find it? Has it ever been commercially available?
Are there any other songs from Watertown on this tape? I must say I consider Watertown one of the most beautiful and solid albums in the history of music, so I am most interested in getting to know more about it.
This demo has been lying around on cassette tape for years but only just got digitised. Clearly the opening section is Jake Holmes and then Valli. I have no information re any other demos done of the Watertown album but there is a full album demo by Bob Gaudio but in such poor sound it is almost unlistenable. That is all we know except for the publicity articles from the time of the albums release. Best wishes Casey
If you look around, we posted an acetate of Waterdown recently.

This is a demo that Bob sang so he can have Frank listen to it and decide if he would record the album.

Thanks, Mowest! What a fine demo. "Watertown" is my favorite Sinatra lp.

Very nice...makes you wonder whether the Four Seasons would have been better off doing "Watertown" instead of "Genuine Imitation Life Gazette."
