@fionablahblah And rightly so!!!! Please don't encourage them. : )
Does the (weird) way the view count for Part 2/2 is *1million+* less than for than Part 1/2 have any connection with this, I wonder? That's 1million people who can't be arsed to stay watching for the most romantic, erotic, moving (and naked) scenes or That Kiss.
@Cassie101717 It's clearly a fact that you were watching it, but if you 'like gay movies' your comment looks a little ill-considered. (Rupert's dick is only on screen for about 30 seconds, and if you think this is 'too gay' you'll be truly shocked if you ever see a gay porn film.) Hence the probing questions – which you will get on the Maurice boards (unlike, say, the Brokeback Mountain boards, which are weirdly full of religious puritans and homophobes.)
I absolutely adore this movie, and I'd love to read the book. This movie was made in a time when most gay flicks portrayed gays as either tragic simply because they're gay, or gave the message that homosexuality leads to depravity and suicide. This movie breaks all the rules, and that's why I own it.
@Kawamura2 I agree with everyone else, you should read the book. If you think the film was ground-breaking the book is so much more. I know if didn't finally get published until 1971 but some people had the pleasure of reading this story in 1914 ... now that's breaking the rules!!
@IscaRose Indeed! From this PoV you might enjoy the Abinger Edition of Maurice (1999 hardback) if you haven't seen it. Because the version published in 1971 wasn't finalised by EMF until the 1950s: earlier private readers saw earlier drafts, only some of which survive. And some of the detail in 1914 was very different from 1971 (the Abinger Edition notes explain these differences). e.g. Two key scenes in this video – the hotel scene and the boathouse ending – weren't written until 1952!
@Cassie101717 Yeah because if you have a penis you're automatically....gay? And btw if this was a man and a woman, and you saw his penis or her vag, would you be complaining? Probably not so don't be a hypocrite.
if u like this film, anothr 2 check out is "prayers for bobby". u can watch it on this site 2. its rele gd. if it doesn't make u cry, u ave no sense of emotion TT_TT
Now that is the meaning of true LOVE both giving up something for each other. Such passion !! this is an amazing film, and quite possibly a recollection of the real life of the author.
@stephan9894 The author's real life was more repressed (and complicated) than the happiness and passion he dreams of for Maurice. There's a good recent biography of Forster by Wendy Moffat if you'd like to know more.
Not here! Alec's 'jealous' because (due to class suspicions/difference, etc) it's the only way to get his man!
(Same story with the 'you shouldn't treat me like a dog' and 'you've had your fun...' blackmail angle, which becomes seriously erotic once you realise this.) These guys are overcoming all odds and making history – in the novel, they’re modern literature's first-*ever* gay 'happy ever after' pairing – so wonder it's a bumpy road!
indeed. after watching a few more of this drama, i came to understand that better, that skudder really loved maurice, and how difficult it was to find gay love back in the day. now, it's to get through all the b.s. that makes it hard to find love and genuineness. i'll look for this film to buy. thanks.
I did not just see lestrade naked O_O
heaven does exist.

What's this? A Rupert Graves video under which the top rated comments do not mention his skills at football or five children? *implodes*

Wtf he was naked! And u could see everything! I'm fine with gay movies, but this was a little too gay.

@Cassie101717 It's a penis, love. Straight people have them too, and nobody accuses them of being "a little too straight".
