Thank you Tatane73, Bill, Oscar, Ray, ... and for the lyrics, Gene Lees -- "...When she goes they will cry ....". And now they're gone, but hallelujah anyway.
He's really enjoying himself at 1:30. This is such an amazing solo. For my taste, I actually prefer his take on Waltz for Debby over Bill Evans's, though Bill wrote it.
nice one oscar.mr.evans would like this rendition.ray brown's bass sounds like a bass should do deep & rich, not like eddie gomez's sound which leaves you thinking his bass needs looking at.
his music is so touching...i'm not worthy enough for this guy so i'll call him mr. peterson...mr. peterson plays from the bottom of of his heart and soul, he loves what he plays, and he has confidence of what he does. if any of you can do that, i'm sure you'll come up with something.
Que grande Oscar!!!! Me encanta lo abierto que era, tocaba beatles, bossa nova e incluso temas de grandes pianistas contemporaneos a el como este video, creo que eso les falto a muchos musicos de su epoca
no doubt, this was the finest, tightest trio OP had. Ray and Ed were a perfect fit for him. Those of us who got to see and hear this trio live were very fortunate.
I agree. I used to go see him and the trio every time they played in NY at Basin Street East in the 1960's. It was terrific. I even got to meet him between sets for a chat.
That's the great percussionist, Edmund Thigpen, who is still playing great. He was the youngest member of OP's trio and Ray Brown was responsible for getting him the gig with Oscar. Check out the upcoming release by "reelin' in the Years" that will include an hour of this magnificent trio. it will be available, as I just heard, in September 2008.
no way... Bill Evans Trio is much more progressive and their interplay is more intense and creative... this is "only" groove stuff with a good rhythm section

I like how the people in the background are swaying to the 3/4 timing during the first minute of the music.

Once that 4/4 groove sets in it's all over. Bill Evans was never soulful or funky like this. Oscar Peterson, jazz groove God!

Nobody can attack the rhythm like Oscar Peterson! I would sell my soul for his command of the piano.
das499 2 years ago 3
a genius he was!! But at times he played far too fast just for the sake of it, but if you have talent I guess you want to flaunt it.

Has anyone else ever swung deeper than Oscar?
I mean the guy's pocket is SO deep.........
mylegsareswollen 4 years ago
Answer: NO!
When it comes to swing, nobody does it like Oscar. Nobody!
kingskid1985 4 years ago 3
I'm something of a neophyte, so please forgive the stupid question, but what exactly is meant by swing?
polymath7 3 years ago
Well, it's the funkification of the groove, of course.
ddsoco 3 years ago
think in terms of syncopation.
where the emphasis is put on a beat helps the groove "swing".Rather than putting it on the one(for example)put it on the "and".
instead of ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR one AND two AND three AND four

I really whould to see Oscar to play with Pege Aladár (bass) , thats could be a great show!
