I love the remixes that 7 news made for Australian cities like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth so stop saying we butchered the NBC theme. Because we modernized it to make it sound better
Channel 7 in Australia made so many versions of the NBC version. I've never heard the last Star Wars version, was that ever used in the US? I think as riveting as John William's "The Mission", some of us in Australia get tired of Australian television copying the American channels, and I guess it could be a cringe for Americans wondering if we have any imagination at all in Australia. We do have unique imagination in Australia and our local artists deserve a go.
The second cut should have been adopted by NBC when Brian Williams took over "Nightly News".
This way, NBC could have said "This is a new era for 'Nightly News'", but onthe othr hand, keep the theme music of some two decades (at the time) standing.

i am an australian teen! and i am SHOCKED that australia would have a racist reputation!!! We simply dont! im not enying their isnt racism, but the US would by far have more racism then us!!
Because Americans love America, want everyone to be like Americans, want every country to be like America, and are disappointed to discover that other countries aren't like America. So they complain to everyone in that country that the the country they're holidaying in isn't American enough, and that everything's better in America.
I'm being VERY cynnical here, I've actually been to America twice and loved it! It's just the cultural stereotype. Still, give me Australia any day of the week.

I would hope you love your country above all, as I do. You can keep that stereotype in the back of your head if you must - but it's wrong. That's your countries inaccurate perception of Americans. One stereotype about Australia, that is unfortunately true, is the surreal level of racism. Sickening over there. Stereotypes aside, the original version of John Williams theme is the best. These techno remixes are cool, but they're computer generated remixes of symphony music. Not everyone's "thing".
You're trying to have it both ways by saying that my American stereotype is wrong (your opinion) yet Australia's stereotype is "unfortunately true". To this I say America has the KKK, Westboro Baptist Church, racial profiling and unhealthy doses of religious-right fundamentalism. My claim was tongue in cheek yet I maintain that America is a wonderful place despite this (I also have family there). Indeed, I would venture that you have an inaccurate perception of Australia. Ditch the subjectivity.

Americans as individuals may or may not be racist and are free to join the KKK or profile based on race, you can't control individual hatred in any nation. Yet the country overwhelmingly elected a black man to the presidency. Australia, on the other hand, is racist in law and in practice. It's immigration stance, aboriginal policies, and hatred towards Muslims is second to none in the world. Only in the 90's did many civil rights laws come about that we take for granted in Europe and the USA.
Why don't you actually come to Australia and see for yourself how multicultural and egalitarian we are. Take an opportunity to see the error of your comments. Also, I suggest watching Borat. It may be sensationalised, but the rodeo organiser certainly didn't like the fact that with only a mustache, Borat looked like "one of them muslim fellers".
I would not like to be a muslim in the US, much less even look like one.
I emplore you to base your comments on fact, not absolutes of misinformation.

You're using a comedy and a single individual racist to drive home a point that you cant backup any other way. Australia is known world-wide as one of the most racist western nations. My country has overcome the violent past. Your country still riots to this day because of race tensions. The Cronulla riots of '05 were race-based and only 3.5 years ago. Riots don't just happen. It's built up tension and anger that hits a boiling point. We never rioted against our Muslims like you did in Sydney.
You've got totally the wrong idea about Australia, and one riot does not a racist country make. If that is the case then look at France where riots happen several times a year. I feel sorry for you, you're obviously cocooned in a nest of misinformation. Hope your life improves.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You claimed we were racist because a southerner on a comedy made negative remarks about Muslims. You guys rioted against your Muslims. You lose the debate. Racism exists in every country. I was only pointing out the weakness in your argument. Yes, Europe is racist. So is Australia, and so is parts of America. But a black won't get elected in France. A Hindu won't get elected in Australia (Jindal). I've been to Europe 5x and Australia 2x. Beautiful places. Our best allies. Wonderful citizens. :)
I actually agree with you, racism exists everywhere, all I'm saying is that it's not fair, nor is it right to claim that Australia is known "world-wide as one of the most racist western nations" when that's clearly not true. It may be your subjective opinion, but that doesn't make it concensus. However, I'm glad we have come to some sort of accord and understanding. I look forward to visiting America again, and hope you look forward to coming to Australia in the future.

Aboriginal policies have been an embarassment for Australia. 1967 was the beginning of real change. Children of the "Lost Generation" (all aboriginals and islanders!) were still being taken from their houses until the 70's - by acts of Parliament! A form of genocide, according to some historians. The racial hatred act of 1995 finally got rid of blatant system-sponsored racism by politicians, i.e. Pauline Hanson.
can you find a single thing I said that is not factual? because I seem to have named specifics. hence, people like mariofan69 actually have come to agree with me on things.

When have you ever heard anyone who knows about music say something like "Yes, Mozart's Requiem was ok, but what it REALLY needs is some random techno-sounding beats on top of it."
The technoish versions are kind of bastardizations of the symphonic versions, which are much better and portray a greater array of emotion and musicality.
Wow, it is realy weird to hear a techno version of JW's Mission Theme! I had no idea any other countries used it too. Version 6 is neat, but Version 7 is awesome!
My favourite is version 6. But version 2 and version 5 are also great. Anyone know where you can download the NBC Nightly News theme (and I mean version 5).
Does anyone know who made the remixes? I'm guessing it was an Australian company, then each capital city's producer maybe edited it the way they saw fit.
As far as i am concerned the original without the synths and the disco beat etc is the best.
The yanks still use the beautiful dignified fanfare as it was meant to be....as I said before..only a tacky awful network like 7 would have the presumption and nerve to alter a beautiful piece of music into a cheap n nasty version. Mind you its probably a reflection of their audiences taste!
It goes to show that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Here is mine: The American fanfare version is horrible, far too slow, out of date and cheap and nasty. I much prefer the upbeat, modern, sophisticated version that the wonderful 7 Network uses.
Hmm. I never knew each city had a slightly different theme... I think Adelaide might use version 3, or version 6 (they are very similar). But my favourite is the last version that I think the whole of Australia used to use before the remix - it's an oldie but a goodie.
It's funny 'cause when the updated theme music came along with the redone intro, we joked that it sounded like The Terminator music. Heheh.
As far as I can tell, the only American one is version 5. All the other ones are used by Seven News in Australia for different editions/across the years. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. My faves are version 2 and version 3 but version 3 is the most recent one and sounds a bit cluttered.
4:30 News is a Cut and Paste of the Version 6.Siren Start, then No helicopter, and the bit just before the tune thingy (Hope you know what I mean lol) thats not there.
Who here listens to the first few seconds of each version hearing bill bailey saying: "Pay attention the news!"
