  • Who here listens to the first few seconds of each version hearing bill bailey saying: "Pay attention the news!"

  • I love the remixes that 7 news made for Australian cities like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide & Perth so stop saying we butchered the NBC theme. Because we modernized it to make it sound better

  • I like version 6 the best.

  • Version 3 should be dubstep remixed, it already has the bassline down trot.

  • Give me the original any day :-)

  • for which network was version 7?

  • Channel 7 in Australia made so many versions of the NBC version. I've never heard the last Star Wars version, was that ever used in the US? I think as riveting as John William's "The Mission", some of us in Australia get tired of Australian television copying the American channels, and I guess it could be a cringe for Americans wondering if we have any imagination at all in Australia. We do have unique imagination in Australia and our local artists deserve a go.

  • @AustTubeYou the star wars one was used only once from 1989 to 1994

  • Where do I get full track for #2?!?!?!

  • NBC NEWS THEME IS JUST AWFULL ITS TO OLD IT NEEDS REMIXING LIKE 7 HAVE DONE

  • 7 News (And NBC) have the best news theme! It is so simple, yet powerful.

  • why # 2 sound like club music ?

  • 2-4 and 6 should be adopted by NBC's O&O local affiliates immediately.

  • The second cut should have been adopted by NBC when Brian Williams took over "Nightly News".

This way, NBC could have said "This is a new era for 'Nightly News'", but onthe othr hand, keep the theme music of some two decades (at the time) standing.

  • I love all these!!!!

  • Like the classic cuts (1: NBC Nightly News mainly during Tom Brokaw era) and 5 (TODAY Show).

    Cuts 2-4 and 6...meh.

  • i had no idea that the nbc and seven news themes were the same until i watched 'nbc today' on 7mate and thought: 'where have i heard that before?'

  • also loved 6, the sirens and chopper sounds make it for me, so news like bahaha

  • I love version 3 and 4, im Australian so i might be a tad biased haha

  • @pjrt91 same here :P

  • Version 2 would sound good if they didn't use a synthisizer for the strings.

  • I know #2 is kinda trashy, but i like it.

  • Are you freaking kidding me??? John Williams wrote the theme to channel 7 news? I swear this has literally BLOWN MY MIND.

  • The only variations by John Williams are 1, 5, and 7. The others are by the mixers/musicians for the Australian news.

  • Where can you find the full track of version 1

  • it's published on one of Williams' CDs and you can certainly find it here in youtube.

    check "williams record NBC Theme"

  • the youtube video: "John Williams Recording NBC Nightly News Beat"

  • #1: Epic AWESOME

    #2: Horrible

    #3: WORSE THAN #2

    #4: Worse than 2 and 3 combined

#5: Awesome, but not as good as 1

    #6: Ehh... Nahh...not too good

#7: It's made for Star Wars

  • I agree w/your assessments, except I hated 6 and 7. I think #5 is the one NBC uses now for the Nightly News.

  • Dear God, they butchered 'The Mission'

  • @lokdomar777 JELOUSSSSSSSSSSS!!

  • @lokdomar777 3 is better than one. Enough said.

  • Um...it's about the MUSIC.

  • The second version here sounds a bit "Metal Gear", lol

  • why is everybody voting down the comments saying that seven news' version is the best?

jeez, what's wrong with you people?

  • Because Americans love America, want everyone to be like Americans, want every country to be like America, and are disappointed to discover that other countries aren't like America. So they complain to everyone in that country that the the country they're holidaying in isn't American enough, and that everything's better in America.

I'm being VERY cynnical here, I've actually been to America twice and loved it! It's just the cultural stereotype. Still, give me Australia any day of the week.

  • You're trying to have it both ways by saying that my American stereotype is wrong (your opinion) yet Australia's stereotype is "unfortunately true". To this I say America has the KKK, Westboro Baptist Church, racial profiling and unhealthy doses of religious-right fundamentalism. My claim was tongue in cheek yet I maintain that America is a wonderful place despite this (I also have family there). Indeed, I would venture that you have an inaccurate perception of Australia. Ditch the subjectivity.

  • Why don't you actually come to Australia and see for yourself how multicultural and egalitarian we are. Take an opportunity to see the error of your comments. Also, I suggest watching Borat. It may be sensationalised, but the rodeo organiser certainly didn't like the fact that with only a mustache, Borat looked like "one of them muslim fellers".

I would not like to be a muslim in the US, much less even look like one.

I emplore you to base your comments on fact, not absolutes of misinformation.

  • You've got totally the wrong idea about Australia, and one riot does not a racist country make. If that is the case then look at France where riots happen several times a year. I feel sorry for you, you're obviously cocooned in a nest of misinformation. Hope your life improves.

  • I actually agree with you, racism exists everywhere, all I'm saying is that it's not fair, nor is it right to claim that Australia is known "world-wide as one of the most racist western nations" when that's clearly not true. It may be your subjective opinion, but that doesn't make it concensus. However, I'm glad we have come to some sort of accord and understanding. I look forward to visiting America again, and hope you look forward to coming to Australia in the future.

  • aboriginal policies? neogeno213? australia abolished those in 1967, way before the 90's. australia isnt called a multicultural society for nothing!

  • i agree with u on pauline hanson. what a racist cow. sorry for my misunderstanding. :)

  • do you know ANYTHING about australia?

  • can you find a single thing I said that is not factual? because I seem to have named specifics. hence, people like mariofan69 actually have come to agree with me on things.

google pauline hanson and find out about australia

  • No sir, what is wrong with you?

When have you ever heard anyone who knows about music say something like "Yes, Mozart's Requiem was ok, but what it REALLY needs is some random techno-sounding beats on top of it."

  • John Williams is the man!

  • I'm a bit surprised NBC didn't adopt the "disco" version when Brian Williams succeded Tom Brokaw at the anchor desk.

The "disco" version would have paid homage to NBC's traditions while suggesting that "This Is Not Your Father's 'Nightly News'!".

  • John/Brian Williams are the best of the best! :)

  • The technoish versions are kind of bastardizations of the symphonic versions, which are much better and portray a greater array of emotion and musicality.

  • mmmm I think I like the disco version, LOL

  • the 7 network has the best version

  • i think virsion 2 is the current one

  • Wow, it is realy weird to hear a techno version of JW's Mission Theme! I had no idea any other countries used it too. Version 6 is neat, but Version 7 is awesome!

  • i like version 5 it reminds me of tower v.3 opening. awsome music dude.

  • My favourite is version 6. But version 2 and version 5 are also great. Anyone know where you can download the NBC Nightly News theme (and I mean version 5).

  • Version 1 was used by NBC from 1985-2004, when Brian Williams Joined, Version 5 was used and is still the current American intro.

  • Nice theme keep the work up and make up for it thats the men i love ur songs

  • My Fave is Version 6, with the siren in it....I also like the Club mix we used to use

  • Does anyone know who made the remixes? I'm guessing it was an Australian company, then each capital city's producer maybe edited it the way they saw fit.

  • As far as i am concerned the original without the synths and the disco beat etc is the best.

The yanks still use the beautiful dignified fanfare as it was meant to be....as I said before..only a tacky awful network like 7 would have the presumption and nerve to alter a beautiful piece of music into a cheap n nasty version. Mind you its probably a reflection of their audiences taste!

  • Yes, because general Australian viewers have final say in what news theme one of their networks uses. *rolls eyes*

  • yeah, it's kind of the cultural opposite of what you'd expect isn't it

  • It goes to show that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Here is mine: The American fanfare version is horrible, far too slow, out of date and cheap and nasty. I much prefer the upbeat, modern, sophisticated version that the wonderful 7 Network uses.

  • Hmm. I never knew each city had a slightly different theme... I think Adelaide might use version 3, or version 6 (they are very similar). But my favourite is the last version that I think the whole of Australia used to use before the remix - it's an oldie but a goodie.

It's funny 'cause when the updated theme music came along with the redone intro, we joked that it sounded like The Terminator music. Heheh.

Thanks for making this video! YOU ROCK! ♥

    *fav'd*

  • Version 5 has the old NBC "chime" as the opening. The original from NBC is best...trust the tacky 7 network to ruin a grand tune!

  • Seven fucked up 3 and 4 . there gross, but the 2nd one is the BEST, and thats Australia, so we did'nt fuck that one up bud

  • Why do you use that homemade seven logo? It looks a bit...iffy.

  • I believe its the logo for the Seven News Network in Australia...

  • I believe that the logo used is home made, because the real logo is thicker and the diagonal at the top right hand corner of the logo is steeper.

P.S. The Seven network is not a news network. It's a lot like NBC.

  • version 7 sounds the closest to the original "the mission"

  • what do you rekon of version 2, thats Australia;s?

  • As far as I can tell, the only American one is version 5. All the other ones are used by Seven News in Australia for different editions/across the years. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. My faves are version 2 and version 3 but version 3 is the most recent one and sounds a bit cluttered.

  • version 2 for the win :D

  • VERSION 2 IS THE B E S T B E S T

  • hehehe. I knew you'll say that. :)

  • Melbourne never really used this version. Melbournes News only had the tecno beat and the tune thing at the end.

  • @AntonioAzz

It is a cool take on it! COOL!

  • Version 6 is the 4:30 News Opener theme. Can tell with the Siren at the start

  • Version 6also has the helicopter sound. Does the current 4:30 news uses it?

  • 4:30 News is a Cut and Paste of the Version 6.Siren Start, then No helicopter, and the bit just before the tune thingy (Hope you know what I mean lol) thats not there.

  • That's right. Btw, I think Version 6 was called the "Brisbane Package" later adopted by the other local affiliates. It was used from 2004-2006.

  • thanks for this, it was great.

  • Version 6 i hadn't heard on the net anywhere before. Yay.. Thanks for all your videos with music and stuff it's really good!

  • Thank you for the comment. Version 6 is used as Seven Network's Brisbane 2004 opener.
