Hey Dan hope you still check this video for comments but i'm new to harmonica playing and just got myself a special 20 in the key of C..coincidence that you actually recomend it in another one of your videos but thats besides the point..i'm writing to ask you if you go from tongue blocking to puckering when you use the "T" technique to add percussion to your notes...im having trouble isolating my notes and would appreciate some tips...Thanks
@BeauSho30 I think it's better to learn one technique first, then add a second embouchure later, but maybe I feel that way because that's how I learned. At the very start, it's probably better to focus on one embouchure. Making a "T" or "Ta" sound is something you do while puckering. The tongue is not free enough to get such a staccato attack when tongue blocking. That's one very good reason to eventually learn multiple embouchures.
HELP! you are gonna b my teacher LOL but i dont know the order of your videos.. i mean the order i should follow... this is the first one that u uploaded but... isnt the easiest.. so.. any idea of how i can see your videos? i mean from easy to hard
(sorry for bad english.. thank u so much for the videos and ur time)
hey dan,i love your stuff and as a beginner, your stuff is prob the best for my ability. i work in a school, and their are as many different learning styles as there are anythin else. visual, auditory, kinasthetic ect... so please dont assume "if i cant hear it i cant play it".ive been a bit upset by this comment for a while now.however i shall still view your videos, because i like them and i like you. however dont worry i shant ask any more questions but thank you for the comment :(
Ah DANG man... i bought a harmonica some months ago, and ive been practicing on different ways to get a single note but i just cant get it... :S, please man could you give me some tips? i really wanna get a single note so i can advance into my learning :) i would be in deep dept for you if you could give me some tip! :D
ive got a g and an a .. just starting to get into it.. r these good keys to try n learn on.. noticed that sum sound better than others??.. p.s u r better ythan stevie wonder on that there gob iron mate !.. who do u listen too.. who r ur heroes??
A is a very commonly used key for blues. It's a great key. May be slightly more difficult to learn on than a C harp, but that's no big deal. G harp will be a little tougher to play than A, as well.
hi dan.. i wrote a comment b4.. can i just ask, when you have time, if you can explain cross harp simply, cus im really confused w/ that right now.. I know what its for, im jsut not sure how to use it. also could you tell me the 12 bar blues.. if you have already got these in a vid.. just tell me.. tnx
You need to be able to bend notes to play cross harp. If you have a C harp you would bend the notes & play in the key of G.straight harp is like what Bob Dylan plays he plays his C Harp in the key of C for cross Harp you play a C Harp in G. Look up Adam Gussow's lessons for tips on 12 bar Blues
Adam has some really clear videos on the 12bar structure. I know there's a lot of info on positions out there. I learned the basics from Jon Gindick's "musically helpless" book 20 years ago. I "got" the 12bar structure from listening to thousands of hours of blues. Since it's something I "know" and didn't formally "learn" it's hard for me to teach. More videos will come eventually.
Wow that's a pretty comprehensive video in my noob opinion.
I can imagine i'll be watching it a gazillion times to get 20% of it right :)
Thanks a bunch Dan

hi dan wat are the tabs for this blues riff? keep up ur great stuff mate :)
feiz01 2 years ago
I think another viewer put a tab in the comments. If not, try to learn it by ear. If you can't hear it, then you can't play it. (Rick Estrin)

@feiz01 I just put up a video with the boogie tab. Sorry if I was dismissive in the past. Was not my intention.

I tried tabbing out that basic 12 bar boogie pattern in order to help me learn it, and this is what I got. Is it correct? D= draw, b= blow
2 x ( 2d, 3d, 4d, 5b, 5d, 5b, 4d, 5b)
1b, 2b, 3b, 3d, 4b, 3d, 3b, 2b, 2d, 3d, 4d, 5b, 5d, 5b, 4d, 5b, 6b, 5d, 4d, 4b, 3d, 3d , 4b, 3d, 2d, 2d, 2d, 2d, 2d, 1d, 1d

Tysohn, Your tab looks close, but I haven't had time to check it. I don't use tab much, and learn mostly by ear.
