It's amazing to me that so many people are like Nikki. If you called them cowardly to their face, they'll go all apeshit on you denying it. But they're so terrified of being real that they think constantly about superficial things like looks, clothes, and fun. And they loose it when something happens to ruin their fantasy life.
Here's a guess. niki is going to be prom queen, chad and sandi hook up, niki gets jealous and instead of doing her planed suicide/murder with just her and chad, she decides to kill sandie as well then ben, upset about his sisters death kills niki, the prom queen.

That seemed kinda unnecessary to show her self-harming, I thought they did it better last episode when they just implied it as it was more subtle. This just makes it seem like they think the people watching it are too stupid to realise what she was going to do.
