did anyone ever feel sorry for ramses? cuz i did. >< the guy wasn't evil he was just raised that way and he really did truly care for his brother. it is too bad that they were torn apart because of their tremendous diff in ideals.
It's hard to put a language like Japanese, which has such different rules for pronunciation, in a song which was originally in English. I think that's why Moses and Rameses' diaglouge sounds rather clunky. The chanting, however, was made for this language.
I think this song is really strong in Japanese because of all the wonderful consonants in the Japanese language. It makes it particularly powerful and poignant. Awesome.
@MaskedMan66 yeah I was talking to another guy who was saying we were all the way out of the woods I said weve gotten better but we got a long way to go. Are you British or a pirate what's up with the matey ha ha.
@nohabody stuff started going wrong after 911 we got dragged into 2 wars we can't get out of and our economy plummeted. Were not out of the woods yet we've greatly recovered but were not out of trouble at least for now.
Man I love the japenese Im still waiting for America to recover from our post 911 recession. I hope at least our friends the Brits the Japs and the canadiens stick by us were going through a tough time right now.
@Bwkjam Wow, off-topic much? And why specify it as 'post 911' when the recession started 6 years after 9-11? If you're gonna talk about it at least use the proper term: the Great Recession and know that it's a global problem not isolated to the U.S. We're lucky to be out of it, some countries aren't.
God, this is my favourite language version of this song. Voices are perfect, the singing fits the melody very well (which is pretty hard when you translate songs), just... waaaaah, I just love Japanese! >w<
Love this video is it just me or does the japenese sound like some kinda spell being cast I'm not saying japenese ppl r evil I'm saying I don't understand a word of japenese and this is played along with god taking down the egptians. Just a thought not meant to offend any1.

I love this version a little more than my native tounge (English), because I cant understand what they're saying, so the visual really pull you in. Brings shivers down my spine!
@aley2watt I know exactly what you mean. If there's one thing the Japanese are good at, it's taking English songs and making them that much more powerful.
It's interesting that Val Kilmer didn't do his own singing in the original English-language "Prince of Egypt," but in a stage show called "The Ten Commandments: The Musical," a few years later, he once again played Moses, and sang. Maybe he'd had voice lessons by then, dunno.
It's beautiful! Just... whoa. I think I've never heard so much emotion in a Japanese song before. When Moses sings about how it breaks his heart to destroy his home, "Waga ie... konna ni are hate, kokoro-o semeru..." I get a shiver down my spine. Every. Single. Time.
I usually think that the original english versions of these songs are better then the japanese, but in this case? .... This is, in my opinion, the best one that the japanese have done.
Hm...I think the verses sound better in Japanese, but the chorus at the beginning sounds smoother in the English...though I have to admit, the emphasis in the beginning that makes it kinda choppy is kinda cool
Song was good, but the movie sucks, especially in its depiction of ramses II.He is still revered in Egypt and was supposed to have ascended before the plagues. That makes this movie a cartoon in more sense than one.Its lame depiction of how the christian/jewish prophet moses is a good guy while Egyptian king ramses is evil is totally wrong.Christians have enslaved millions and wiped out entire cultures. It continues tdy just look Korea,USA,Nigeria,India etc research is needed before making a movie!
@cillantro Speaking as an atheist here (who's studied world history), this film was a compressed adaptation of the Book of Exodus, not a dissertation for a PhD. This movie actually isn't even about Christianity strictly b/c the Book of Exodus is huge in Judaism as it's the 2nd book of the Torah. Moses is seen as a prophet in Islam. I agree Ramesses II's accomplishments were ignored, but he isn't portrayed as outright EVIL in this movie--as villains go, his character is pretty sympathetic.
@sapphirecircus Yes but ramses was not even there during the plagues. He had long ascended. The masses take info from movies and not historically accurate sources. So it should carry a title saying "work of fiction" or "alternate history",besides RamsesII was used because he is the most famous figure amongst the Pharoas. The responsibility lies with the makers. The"book of exodus" is also the second book of the christian bible's old testament so religious sentiments were weighed by the US film makers
@sapphirecircus Another thing I want to point out is,Egyptians were more pissed off at the idea that a prophet(moses) of Islam's image had been show, than the wrong depiction of Ramses II..which strikes me as ironic, considering Ramses II has done so much for Egypt and continues to do with all the tourism revenue his creations(pyramids etc) draw to egypt even thousands of years after his demise, while all moses did was...nothing of value.Monotheism is extremely unhealthy and egypt is witnessing it.
@cillantro I agree. For what it's worth, in the mini-documentary, The Prince of Egypt - The Making Of, it's revealed that the person who first suggested this film to begin with was Steven Spielberg (who's Jewish), so the idea was not to be some tirade against non-Christians. I'd say radicalism is extremely unhealthy rather than just monotheism itself.
@sapphirecircus I am with you on radicalism, but if you look closer, radicalism stems from not accepting what others have to say.Religion is mostly an emotional thing and that becomes radicalism when someone tells the masses that only their god is true.Moses was jewish so speilberg would definitely have interest in this movie. The depiction of moses says so.You look at ancient wars(as you are a student of history)even the winners did not thrust their religion/gods on the losers.that is polytheism!
@cillantro I still disagree that monotheism is intrinsically inter-twined with reactionary behavior, and nor does polytheism equate with intrinsic goodness. The Aztec mythology was polytheistic, yet resulted in MANY ritual killings. The Hindu practice of Sati (where a widow is either consensually or non-consensually [it varied] immolated @ her husband's funeral), while outlawed as of 1829, was very gruesome. I have nothing against polytheism nor monotheism, but no system's perfect.
@sapphirecircus No system is perfect and that includes atheism too!How when you cannot accept a god because you have no proof for,can you also say that it does not exist? There is no proof for that as well!Fact is we do not know if a god exists or not.daoists are close enough.Besides I did'nt say polytheism was perfect, but it did not create the trouble monotheism creates(crusades, jihad ,caliphatesetc). If I conquer your people,I would not destroy your culture saying my god is superior, thats polyt
@sapphirecircus sati was actually started during the Gupta empire, before which no records of it exist. The Vedas make no mention of it,so it was more of a social thing NOT a religious thing.During Gupta period it was a voluntary thing, not forced upon anyone.Sati has nothing to do with Hinduism.
Aztecs actually welcomed the outsiders who entered their territory, the ritualistic killing were done on war prisoners, criminals etc. They were cheated eventually in the name of christ as were non-muslims
@cillantro I'm not trying to express hate towards polytheism, rather I was merely disagreeing w/ the notion that polytheist followers have never been violent (which I incorrectly thought you said). I never said explicitly nor implicitly that atheism is superior to either type of faith. Aztecs, while I never called them evil, DID commit LARGE amounts of ritual sacrifices (even if the victims were POW, that doesn't diminish the # of sacrifices performed).
@sapphirecircus polytheism followers have never been violent to others coz of religion, monotheist always. You are totally off the mark as that was the point I was making.Sati is no longer practised in Hindu circles, was voluntary back then(1700s).Brits demonised Hinduism to divide and rule.Hindus view death as just a part of the karmic journey, not like christians, heaven and hell etc.Same fr Aztecs. The conquisadors converted everyone who did'nt die.Polytheism is for people monotheism for politics..
@cillantro dude you're generalizing the subject, no mater is it polytheistic or monotheistic there were always good people and fanatics on both sides.
@Guciom That is true but how many?It is not just the internal outlook of the religion(poly or mono) but its external outlook as well. The Achaemenid Empire empire(zoroastrian) allowed for religious tolerance and for the people in conqered lands to keep their faith. This made it the one of the most diverse empires of its time.Whereas the timurid/mughal moslem empires or crusaders had 0% tolerance. Both were monotheist empires.Today's major monotheist faiths have no tolerance for outsiders.
@cillantro again you're generalizing, what i can tell by your staitments is that you have a "they are the bad we are the good" mind set. There were many people of monotheistic faiths that helped other people regardless of faith (Mother Teresa, Karol Wojtyła to name a few), also you claim that polytheistic cultures NEVER harmed other people? Now thats just BS.
@Guciom I am not looking at the individual level. As a matter of fact my previous comment says zoroastrianism a monotheist faith was a positive influence on the world.I claimed polytheist cultures never harmed other people and that is not BS.Did polytheist followers(individuals) harm other people? That is an entirely different question and the answer is an abvious yes,as much as any other humans beings did.The difference being it was not done in the name of religion. That is the point.
@cillantro Regardless of its origin, Sati is practiced in Hindu circles and is considered a largely Hindu practice. I'm NOT trying to hate on neither polytheism nor Aztec heritage/culture nor HInduism (in fact, I really enjoy studying comparative religion). I apologize if I made it seem like I was trying to express hatred against those religions or religion as a whole.
@sapphirecircus Name any other religion where despite being a atheist, you can still be a follower? Hinduism,Buddhism,Shinto, all of these eastern poolytheist faiths emphasise this. The broader picture is what I was talking about and hope I have expressed about certain practises also.Remember suicide which is what sati, is a choice(ex:switzerland) made by you, only impacting you...but hurting non belivers of their faith in tha "name of god"is what monotheists do!an insiders view on religion.
@cillantro Actually, the Pharaoh who finally released the Hebrew slaves was more likely to have been Merneptah, not Rameses. Also, this is 1400-odd years before Christ was born, so don't unload on Christians.
Since you have, however, it's interesting how you accuse Christians of "enslaving millions," but totally ignore one of the main points of the story of Moses, namely that the Egyptian Empire also went in for slavery. If slavery's wrong, it's wrong mate.
@MaskedMan66 True, slavery is wrong no matter who practises it.But the monotheists normally convert slaves to their respecitve religion. This combined with the fear of a god's reprisal by their slave drivers(normally hand in hand with the bishops/mullahs)makes the slaves accept their fate. They could rebel against the egyptians because they mostly did'nt convert slaves.American slaves were emanciated because the US was secular, but look at black muslims in arabia/islamic-africa and arab's servants!
@Tsubakiification Actually, they did a heap of research, as reflected in the three captions that appear in the film, one from the Pentateuch, one from the New Testament, and one from the Koran, all mentioning Moses and his accomplishments.
Any changes to the historical narrative (such as Moses looking like he's in his 30's when he really should be 80) were purely for "dramatic" purposes.
@cillantro A very simplified overview, and not altogether true. Many blacks enslaved by Europeans and Americans became Christians not because they were forced into it (no matter what you've heard, you cannot force real faith), but because they identified with the oppression suffered by God's people throughout the millennia. It was their faith that got them through slavery.
And America was largely Christian when Lincoln-- a Christian-- enacted the Emancipation Proclamation.
@MaskedMan66 .In tribal societies(where slaves were from) they have fear of god, although most of their gods are benevolent.Christians/Muslims are experts in drumming into ones' head the fear of god,not to mention demeaning other original religions. So when these poor black tribal people from the heart of africa are threatened with the wrath of a vengefull all mighty they are prone to get scared.God never said christians are his people, christians patented god and said so ;) Lincoln=sceptic FYI...
@MaskedMan66 The founders of the USA were atheist or irreligious people,Jefferson et all.The motto"In god we trust"is only since 1956,true yanks trust themselves. The aboltionsist were mostly atheists and it was not just one man lincoln who came and swept slavery away.Au conraire the US had segregated army/schools and other forms of segregation till the 50s,even WW-2 was fought by a segregated army.Preston brooks vs sumner?American civil war after lincoln? All god's men;)We are all god's creatures
The intro chanting reminds me of the music from Coraline. ^_^

@sapphirecircus Another thing I want to point out is,Egyptians were more pissed off at the idea that a prophet(moses) of Islam's image had been show, than the wrong depiction of Ramses II..which strikes me as ironic, considering Ramses II has done so much for Egypt and continues to do with all the tourism revenue his creations(pyramids etc) draw to egypt even thousands of years after his demise, while all moses did was...nothing of value.Monotheism is extremely unhealthy and egypt is witnessing it.
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro I agree. For what it's worth, in the mini-documentary, The Prince of Egypt - The Making Of, it's revealed that the person who first suggested this film to begin with was Steven Spielberg (who's Jewish), so the idea was not to be some tirade against non-Christians. I'd say radicalism is extremely unhealthy rather than just monotheism itself.
sapphirecircus 1 year ago
@sapphirecircus I am with you on radicalism, but if you look closer, radicalism stems from not accepting what others have to say.Religion is mostly an emotional thing and that becomes radicalism when someone tells the masses that only their god is true.Moses was jewish so speilberg would definitely have interest in this movie. The depiction of moses says so.You look at ancient wars(as you are a student of history)even the winners did not thrust their religion/gods on the losers.that is polytheism!
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro I still disagree that monotheism is intrinsically inter-twined with reactionary behavior, and nor does polytheism equate with intrinsic goodness. The Aztec mythology was polytheistic, yet resulted in MANY ritual killings. The Hindu practice of Sati (where a widow is either consensually or non-consensually [it varied] immolated @ her husband's funeral), while outlawed as of 1829, was very gruesome. I have nothing against polytheism nor monotheism, but no system's perfect.
sapphirecircus 1 year ago
@sapphirecircus No system is perfect and that includes atheism too!How when you cannot accept a god because you have no proof for,can you also say that it does not exist? There is no proof for that as well!Fact is we do not know if a god exists or not.daoists are close enough.Besides I did'nt say polytheism was perfect, but it did not create the trouble monotheism creates(crusades, jihad ,caliphatesetc). If I conquer your people,I would not destroy your culture saying my god is superior, thats polyt
cillantro 1 year ago
@sapphirecircus sati was actually started during the Gupta empire, before which no records of it exist. The Vedas make no mention of it,so it was more of a social thing NOT a religious thing.During Gupta period it was a voluntary thing, not forced upon anyone.Sati has nothing to do with Hinduism.
Aztecs actually welcomed the outsiders who entered their territory, the ritualistic killing were done on war prisoners, criminals etc. They were cheated eventually in the name of christ as were non-muslims
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro I'm not trying to express hate towards polytheism, rather I was merely disagreeing w/ the notion that polytheist followers have never been violent (which I incorrectly thought you said). I never said explicitly nor implicitly that atheism is superior to either type of faith. Aztecs, while I never called them evil, DID commit LARGE amounts of ritual sacrifices (even if the victims were POW, that doesn't diminish the # of sacrifices performed).
sapphirecircus 1 year ago
@sapphirecircus polytheism followers have never been violent to others coz of religion, monotheist always. You are totally off the mark as that was the point I was making.Sati is no longer practised in Hindu circles, was voluntary back then(1700s).Brits demonised Hinduism to divide and rule.Hindus view death as just a part of the karmic journey, not like christians, heaven and hell etc.Same fr Aztecs. The conquisadors converted everyone who did'nt die.Polytheism is for people monotheism for politics..
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro dude you're generalizing the subject, no mater is it polytheistic or monotheistic there were always good people and fanatics on both sides.
Guciom 1 year ago
@Guciom That is true but how many?It is not just the internal outlook of the religion(poly or mono) but its external outlook as well. The Achaemenid Empire empire(zoroastrian) allowed for religious tolerance and for the people in conqered lands to keep their faith. This made it the one of the most diverse empires of its time.Whereas the timurid/mughal moslem empires or crusaders had 0% tolerance. Both were monotheist empires.Today's major monotheist faiths have no tolerance for outsiders.
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro again you're generalizing, what i can tell by your staitments is that you have a "they are the bad we are the good" mind set. There were many people of monotheistic faiths that helped other people regardless of faith (Mother Teresa, Karol Wojtyła to name a few), also you claim that polytheistic cultures NEVER harmed other people? Now thats just BS.
Guciom 1 year ago
@Guciom I am not looking at the individual level. As a matter of fact my previous comment says zoroastrianism a monotheist faith was a positive influence on the world.I claimed polytheist cultures never harmed other people and that is not BS.Did polytheist followers(individuals) harm other people? That is an entirely different question and the answer is an abvious yes,as much as any other humans beings did.The difference being it was not done in the name of religion. That is the point.
cheers

@cillantro "The difference being it was not done in the name of religion" you claim a lot without any sufficient evidence

@cillantro were not going anywhere with this so lets just stop
Guciom 1 year ago
@Guciom Okay I don't want to offend you just for the sake of religion.
cillantro 1 year ago
@cillantro Regardless of its origin, Sati is practiced in Hindu circles and is considered a largely Hindu practice. I'm NOT trying to hate on neither polytheism nor Aztec heritage/culture nor HInduism (in fact, I really enjoy studying comparative religion). I apologize if I made it seem like I was trying to express hatred against those religions or religion as a whole.
sapphirecircus 1 year ago
@sapphirecircus Name any other religion where despite being a atheist, you can still be a follower? Hinduism,Buddhism,Shinto, all of these eastern poolytheist faiths emphasise this. The broader picture is what I was talking about and hope I have expressed about certain practises also.Remember suicide which is what sati, is a choice(ex:switzerland) made by you, only impacting you...but hurting non belivers of their faith in tha "name of god"is what monotheists do!an insiders view on religion.
Cheers

@cillantro Actually, the Pharaoh who finally released the Hebrew slaves was more likely to have been Merneptah, not Rameses. Also, this is 1400-odd years before Christ was born, so don't unload on Christians.
Since you have, however, it's interesting how you accuse Christians of "enslaving millions," but totally ignore one of the main points of the story of Moses, namely that the Egyptian Empire also went in for slavery. If slavery's wrong, it's wrong mate.
And who's keeping slaves in America?
MaskedMan66 11 months ago
@MaskedMan66 True, slavery is wrong no matter who practises it.But the monotheists normally convert slaves to their respecitve religion. This combined with the fear of a god's reprisal by their slave drivers(normally hand in hand with the bishops/mullahs)makes the slaves accept their fate. They could rebel against the egyptians because they mostly did'nt convert slaves.American slaves were emanciated because the US was secular, but look at black muslims in arabia/islamic-africa and arab's servants!

@girlwithafunnyhat11 ....(my mum told me it was Disney..dammit) Anyway. Still. Not much historical thought when making an animated movie.
Tsubakiification 10 months ago

MaskedMan66 10 months ago
@MaskedMan66 .In tribal societies(where slaves were from) they have fear of god, although most of their gods are benevolent.Christians/Muslims are experts in drumming into ones' head the fear of god,not to mention demeaning other original religions. So when these poor black tribal people from the heart of africa are threatened with the wrath of a vengefull all mighty they are prone to get scared.God never said christians are his people, christians patented god and said so ;) Lincoln=sceptic FYI...
cillantro 10 months ago
@MaskedMan66 The founders of the USA were atheist or irreligious people,Jefferson et all.The motto"In god we trust"is only since 1956,true yanks trust themselves. The aboltionsist were mostly atheists and it was not just one man lincoln who came and swept slavery away.Au conraire the US had segregated army/schools and other forms of segregation till the 50s,even WW-2 was fought by a segregated army.Preston brooks vs sumner?American civil war after lincoln? All god's men;)We are all god's creatures
