What a clever commercial! And they even have the photographer there to capture the iconic image of the East German soldier jumping the wire to escape... how very cool! And funny to boot!
however what does not make since is the UAZ-469 that drives up in the opening scene. this vehicle was not introduced to the east bloc until 1973. so hell if i know why there are french guarding the border in 1973 and why everyone has ww2 equipment. i assume they just screwed up with the jeep they used.
After ww2 Berlin was divided between the allied nations. each nation received a sector of Berlin and of Germany. There was the British, American and french sectors that were joined to form the west, and the soviet sector that became east Germany. the french controlled northwest Berlin following ww2
this appears to be taking place during that time frame making the east Germans seen Volkspolizei which were formed in 1946 by the soviets in violation of the yalta conference.
thx for explanation, what is interesting that I found on the old map from 50's that the north-east part of Austria was under russian territiories, is that correct?
