I am from Austria (where Arnold Schwarzenegger comes from ;) ) and here it´s ok to swear and show boobs on TV. Don´t understand me wrong, there is no hardcore porn on TV and softcore movies air only later than 11pm. For example, Sex in the City" aired uncensored at 8pm in free TV but on the other side the violence peaks in CSI gets censored at 8pm. And as an example for language American Pie 1 gets a 12+ rating.
I am not from the US, but to me its the same here. Violence seems normal. not that parents like it but they dont complain half as much as they would if they see a hip hop/rap video on tv, or of course pornography. It seems like a human thing....especially odd in my country where carnival permits alot of nudity annually....
Now that i am older, i dont get censured as much though.
I remember when I first watched Show Girls. My parents said to me, "I'd rather you watch this in-front of us than behind our backs". The movie was quite entertaining, and i enjoyed it. Some of the themes were lost on me at the time, but it no way traumatized me, nor were my parents embarrassed by my reactions. My parents made sure my sister and I understood the difference between entertainment value and unacceptable behavior.
On the contrary, my mother is American, growing up in small town Montana, and my father is Canadian. They knew that sheltering me was a bad idea, Kids are smart, and if they want to watch it, they will find a way. My parents told my sister and I about consequences, not about right and wrong, radical idea, but it worked. I knew that if the movie scared me, I could have nightmares, but I never did. The only film that scared me was Jurassic Park.
I'm from ireland and we are even more uptight than america
but ya my parents let me watch pretty much anything they dont prohibit anything really but watching extreme violence with my dad is no problem but watching a small sex scene would make me pretty uncomfortable.
i remember watching last houe on the left with my dad the most violent movie for its time but none of the violence made me uncomfortable it was the rape scene and after that i decided i was never watching it with him again lol.
What I find enoying is that in the US bad lanunge is so baaad. They beep it and its unheard of, but naked boobs and four girls fighting over one guy in a rap video is so allowed. I find that stupid!
I think violence is pushed, however other things are repressed. I have never understood it. I can only assume that it is personal preference. As far as the "actually happening", I cannot help but think of how real movies make violence, and yet parents smile and enjoy with their children. Hell, "the passion" was seriously the most bloody movie I've ever seen. christian churches stressed it like it was going out of style. Yet a single tit? NO! Discourage pleasure.
Americans as a whole are very repressed. Sexual content embarrasses parents, so they put try to shield their children from it.. As for violence, it is everywhere on tv and the movies I think parents just give up trying to hide it from their children.
Backing you up here Josh. I agree with you so much. I think that Violence should also be accounted as Explicit content. Why? Well because I have seen a lot of messed up 8-16 year old kids. They eager to steal, hurt and abuse people for no reason. It's just as if they got all of those things from the movies. Maybe it's their families that are violent... I don't know.
And the Example of Megan Fox, that is so far away from being a good "Sexual" example. Watch MTV "Sexiest clips of the Year/Month"
I remember watching a film when i was about 6-7(I cant remember what one) and all of a sudden, bam!! - Girl with her baps out. And i was rather shocked myself as my mum and dad did not say anything more than, should he be watching this. As for the statue, i think that yeah, that would be shown on tv here, but every country has different rules. A good topic to bring up!
Nah but anywayz. Im from England, and my Parents have never stopped me from watching horror films and thing's like American Pie. Even when I was Younger. The first horror film i ever watched was the Candy Man, I still remember cuz I got so scared haha. I think though it's all down to how the parents was brought up. And if some parents let there child see horror type things and not nudity people start to assume most family's are like that, if that made any sence lol
In my opinion, violence in movies is worse than sex. Sex is a natural part of life, just like eating, sleeping, and interacting with other humans.

It is that way in my family too. I can't help but wonder why though. It doesn't seem like nudity is worse than killing someone.

Think of it this way. Do you really want to watch a sex scene with your parents???

Damn,.........good point. That's kind of gross.

Wow, you are either not from the U.S. or you have some really cool parents. That's what I think parents need to do.

Same here, any nudity or foul language was bad, but "Dirty Harry" was ok
