This is.. just... astonishing, amazing O_O I wish I could make things like that, but it would take so long to even reach a small portion on what that would be.
This is what I plan to achieve in my life, but on a much larger scale...I want to see the full movie from Albee, most of the visuals look fantastic! And the story seems epic, too.
Bravo! Magnifique! I would love to show this short in an upcomming tv channel about short films, a new mainstream window for independent filmmaking in USA and Latin America. Let me know if you are interested!
Seeing work like this kinda.. inspire and frustrates me at the same time. Its rather amazing. I saw the first episode and really, despite of the fact that i personally didn´t fell in love with it (the story and the style wasn´t very atractive to me),you got to give it to him.. this is a behemoth work for one man.I´ve been working (intermittently)for the last year and a half in my little animated short and it only last 5 minutes :S.. so i know the work it involves the making of a short.
At the moment, only the first episode has been released. There are two trailers for the first episode though, both of which are under the videos section of my YouTube account.
Timothy Albee is insane. I've done a few of his lightwave tutorials and the man is possessed. I think that's his voice in the trailer, and I think he probably should have found someone else to do it honestly.
Yes, that is Timothy Albee's voice in the trailer. Actually, all of the voice acting in Kaze Episode 1 is done by him. A major point to Kaze Episode 1 is that something like this could be created by one person so naturally all of the voices would need to be done by him. I'm sure Kaze Episode 2 will have separate voice actors for all of the characters.
Thank you, I understand why he would do the voice work, I'm just saying it would probably have benefitted the work to get someone else. Anyways, good to know about Episode 2. And again, the man is nuts, this is ridiculous.
Kaze Episode 1 is already out on DVD and can be purchased from the official website in the video description. Last I heard from Timothy Albee, Kaze Episode 2 was supposed to be released in 2007 but it's now 2008 and it has yet to be released. I'll have to email him for updates on it.
Ooh "Kaze." Wonderful start, I must say. I love how all the animals look the same. Nothing's cooler than a buttload of wolves and the occasional large cat eith uneven eyes and a large snout. I smell a cliche plotline.
I by no means agree with whoever you sent this comment to, but I can't stand this notion that before you can criticise someone, you have to be able to do better yourself. I can't ski jump for shit, but am I not still entitled to believe that Eddie the Eagle was not very good also? In fact I'd say you should ONLY voice criticism if you have less to show for yourself. Some would call the alternative condescension.
It's an incredible piece of work from a very talented film maker / artist / story teller / etc. When I first saw the trailer I my jaw dropped - I'd been looking for work in this genre of this quality for a long time, and here it was. Promptly ordered a copy and still watch it from time to time.
Kaze Episode 1 is already out and the DVD can be purchased at the website link in the video description. Kaze Episode 2 will be out sometime this year.
Besides the 22 minute video, the DVD also contains a director's commentary, sound effects commentary, and a documentary on the making of Kaze. So to me, the DVD was well worth the money.
Actually, both of the trailers I uploaded are for Kaze Episode 1. Kaze Episode 1 is the 22 minute "demo" that Timothy Albee put together in 6 months on his own. Kaze Episode 2 is currently being put together by a small group of animators and will be released sometime this year.
Yeah it's already out on DVD, which can be ordered from his website. I uploaded these trailers of Kaze Episode 1 to help promote both the first episode as well as the second episode that will be released sometime this year.
Nice try from Tim Albee's part, but as i expected, this shot on furry + awesome missed on the technicals. The pseudo-asian theme is... well, a bit too pseudo. Kinda bordering sloppy pseudo -- in fact, "Kaze" is japanese, and i'm seeing more of a chinese feel than a japanese one, apparent from the butterfly knife which, if i remember correctly, hasn't made an appearance in feudal japan. The furries themselves could use some desperate stylizing.
And the music sounds like it came out of a high school music class student who got a C on a traditional chinese music composing assignment. Stone me however you like with your fanboy bricks, i don't give a fuck. I'm being quite honest so far. "Honest" doesn't wear Prada and strut around with a 3 million dollar cologne.
My point is: Damn, dawg, y'all need new wardrobe agents...
Honesty is always respectable in my book so nothing will be thrown at you (well at least from me anyways):). Kaze Episode 2 is currently being worked on by a small group of artists, so it should be a much better representation of how future Kaze episodes and the movie will be like. Just to be clear; is you review based on the two trailers I uploaded or the actual Kaze Episode 1 DVD?
I'm "fairly" sure anthropomorphic ghost warriors never appeared in feudal Japan either ;) I don't think his objective was to strictly stick to one existing culture, eh?
I'm actually basing it on what i'm seeing so far: the trailers. If i have already seen ep. 1, i would've reviewed it a lot more, either discreetly or by means of wall of text in account of storyline.
(reposted because Youtube was being arse at the commenting)
Japancast is the exclusive host for this Kaze trailer. You can download an iPod friendly version of this trailer at the link I added to the description for this video :).
I have seen this film and as a computer animator myself, I have to say that one person using only two computers to do this, did a marvilous job. And to do so in under 6months is amazing.
Oh I do agree, Timothy Albee's 22 minute film is remarkable. I have never seen anything quite like this before. I've read one review from an animator where they basically said this movie was just a ploy to sell more of his CGI training books. I think he was jealous though because he probably never came up with anything nearly as good. Regardless, his Kaze series is going to change the way people view CGI animation :).
Considering that Timothy Albee created Kaze, Ghost Warrior Episode 1 (running time: 22 minutes) alone in 6 months in the middle of know where (100 miles from the Artic circle, Alaska), it's understandable why there are some sort comings. So because of the time constraints, enough was done in each scene to carry the story along. A group of artists is currently working on Episode 2 which should be ready for screening by next year. After that, they will be working on a Kaze feature film.
that would have been fun to have as a movie lol

I would LOVE to se you attempt at something better than this.
Go ahead, try it by yourself for 6 months, with 2 computers, and bring what you accomplish.
If your project recieves the accolades that Kaze has, and is better? ONLY then can you try to put down this movie.
