Sounds like the main (riff) idea was influinced by rolling stones (paint it black) I read these guys were no more than 17 years old when this was made? The record company or manager changed one of the guys names to jimmy james, ha!, without the blue flames, sounds like a rip off from hendrixs old band before the two english white guys in london showed hendrix they were more experienced.
@dannyhood66 Probably was inspired by "Paint it Black" as that record came out late 1966 on the Stones "Aftermath" LP which was the first album to have a 7 minute song (actually Dylan's 1965 "Like A Rolling Stone" was the first but that was a single). Summer '66 was the real "Summer of Love" as LSD had not been made illegal yet. You could have a thousand tabs of Owseley "White Lightening" and get in no trouble. But one joint would get you 10 years in prison. Hard to believe now.
@clarkewi they do sound rather pop psychedelic. the first album of that sort, i listened to over and over was electric music for the mind and body (on 8-track) . go there if you dare.
@dannyhood66 The age range was 14 to 17, there was seven of us, we influenced by a lot of bands in those days, We played high school dances and played over a hundred and fifty different songs, including 20 original songs of our own. George from The Velvet Illusions
@George501949 WOW really??? COOL!!! Are you guys doing anything these days? I was too young back then (9/10 in 67) but I really appreciated psychedelic music. Still do!!
Interesting ,but too much of ..."she" this, and "she" that...I'd rather hear "Kicks"from Paul Revere & the Raiders;similar message, more effective.
