  • This song is amazing...and the movie makes me cry and that's not even what they went through completely....Alice Paul is my

    Idol.....

  • could you share the mp3 for this song please? pretty please? It isn't available anywhere, believe me I looked.

  • Love this movie. Ugh. I hate Youtube's new layout.

  • they should make a modern version of this song and make it a world peace song coz its great

  • I love this song, it was perfectly placed in the movie.

  • Good point Mayor.. There appears to be a total dumbing down going on,, It' s insidious,, Your looks and your shape are the only currency you have,,,?? Where has this crap come from??? The Guardian.. decent paper in UK did a survey a few years ago where they asked teenage girls about their aspirations and ambitions... The top job choices were "lap dancer", , "glamour model", "reality TV star" and "footballer's wife" .... Scary

  • i loved this movie!!!! we watched it in social studies. i really wish that alice paul and ben weissman could've gotten together... they were such a cute couple... and he really loved her... and i think she loved him too, but didn't do anything about it since she believed being a suffragist was more important...

  • Why is it women of today think they are superior to women of the past because they can earn money and vote? Today money and therefore power can be had without doing physical labour. Do you think 1000 years ago the women had that option where jobs were chopping wood with a crude axe, ploughing fields without tractors, building houses by hand out of stones and power was taken by whoever could wield a sword the best?

  • wow what the hell r u talking about??

  • I dont know. I was pretty tanked at the time.

  • love this song, and this movie! I've started singing this song all the time, my family are getting really annoyed.

  • Does anyone know where I can find a video or an MP3 of this song WITHOUT all the background noise of yelling and force feeding?? I tried recording it and then editing it, but that didn't work. I need this version of the song for something, without background noise!!! Please help. Thanks!

  • @christiangal723 Dr Bernice Williams does the original Gospel version, Well one of the earliest recorded versions,, The Iris De Ment version is nice tho.... tony

  • I watched this last week in my apush class. So good. I cried too. This was a great movie.

  • Ah!! we watched this movie in American History Class!! I loved it!!! i watched it and i was crying because alice got forced fed. and i wouldn't want to be force fed

  • Ah!! we watched this movie in American History Class!! I loved it!!!

  • Do you happen to know how the original song writer is? I absolutly loved the movie!! The music was so moving, the picture inspiratinal, and the best damn actors!

  • Hmm, I don't know.But I can look it up. My teacher told my class a year ago that the song was made up by slaves during the Civil war period. But I don't know if it's true.

  • Actually, my mum told me that it was an old appalacian hill people's song...or something along those lines. It probably could have been both.

  • @charmed6057 Original 1908 hymn by Ada R. Habershon, then made into a country/folk song (these lyrics) by A.P. Carter in 1935.

  • nitty gritty dirt band made the original...its not as pretty as in this movie!

  • thanks all look into it.

  • @njtpfan the origanal song writer is Jasmin Tabatabai and her Husband

  • Thank you very much for posting and sharing this. I absolutely love the film "Iron Jawed Angels. Just got to watch it again on TV earlier. :) The part where this song was sung by Alice Paul's fellow suffragettes as a sign of their solidarity with her and her hunger strike and their commitment to their advocacy for women having the right to vote always makes me cry, it's so powerful and moving. :) Thanks again! Looking forward to more of your posts.

  • I didn't just cry during this scene, I LOST IT completely...there's a sense of solidarity in these women that it's so difficult to find nowadays. Thank you so much for posting this!!!

  • OH GOD ME TOO. And it was in Women's Studies, hell! Dx

  • omg i love this moviee i cried like through the whole movie in social studies

  • those wemon basically yell at the world saying that they will stop at nothing to get their freedom!

    WOMAN RULE THE EARTH!!!

    ~~~~~~~~ WOMAN ARE THE SUPPIERIOR! ~~~~~~~~
  • I also saw the movie. Awesome is all I can say. After watching this video please click on my video response of a 17 year old who recorded her own version. It's awesome also.
  • We watched this movie in AP Euro when we switched to the American part of history. Amazing. This part made me cry.
  • my women's studies teacher used to play this song before announcing Stanton's and Anthony's deaths, then put their portraits up on the overhead! none of us got the reference until we watched iron jawed angels-and i know this song will always remind me of womens suffrage now!
  • we watched this in my american lit class. This movie is amazing. I didn't know all the things women had gone threw just to get the right to vote. Even though i still don't see why they couldn't vote in the first place.
  • i hate gospel music but i love this song
  • amazing.
    this is such an inspiering movie.
    Alice Paul and Lucy Burns are my heros.
  • This song is called "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," and in this clip, it is sung by the actual actors in the movie.
  • At the end of movie the song was repriased and it was song by a woman. Does anybody know what I am talking about? If so who was that woman and where can I find the song?
  • I haven't seen the credits, I can look it up though.
  • the song is call beautiful by mandalay
  • @Soccerooss  its Jasmin Tabatabai
  • you can get the dvd...I have it
  • This movie is such an inspiration to any modern day activist
  • me encantó la película, desde luego las mujeres siempre lo hemos tenido más dificil pero somos las más enteras y luchadoras.
    por cierto ¿¿¿cual es la banda sonora de esta película???
  • One of the best acapella in movie scene
  • I love hearing them sing this song more than I enjoy hearing it from professional singers.
  • yeah me too!
  • it sounds very soulful here. but still, half these people probably are professional signer
  • Actors, yes. Singers, well some were, some were just there to make a joyful noise. We had all been working for months through rain, and cold. We had undergone long hours and uncomfortable period clothing and for many of us non-union folk, for very little pay. It was a labor of love and we voiced it in that moment of rebellion and strength.
  • I agree.  It's so much more meaningful and emotional, since there's a much more specific context/meaning in which it was set.
  • Yeah - I I'd love to get this version of the song (sung acapella)! But without all the shouting "quiet" etc.
    Hopefully they have the DVD in my local shop (in New Zealand)
  • I would never had known this movie existed if it weren't for a friend e-mailing me exerpts from it. Fatastic. I know I had a great Aunt that was in the movement but never gave it a second thought. These ladies were brave. I would like to get the DVD. Does anybody know it it is available in rental stores?
  • I remember renting it at hollywood video. If not you could probably buy a used copy on Amazon for pretty cheap. I really reccomend it. Its a strong tv film.
  • netflix also has it
  • This is my favorite Hillary Swank movie, she is so hot. I love this movie. If you're an American woman you have to see this but it's a great film all around. Very moving, and Swank is an incredible actress.
  • I love this movie, and its actually when they brought her back, and the rest of the women in the prison start singing, then it goes into the force feeding. I love this movie because it really shows how much we should appreciate the rights we have as woman, look at what these women went through to have the rights that many take for granted today...Thank God for these woman, and this nation.
  • my favorite part of this movie. thanks!
  • More needs to be taught about this amazing movement.
    Just imagine: a group of individuals with virtually no power and money of their own fought for 70+ years for the right to vote - and not a single life was taken. No threats - just truth.
    I really want to see this movie again.
  • Thanks for posting this, I love this part!
  • Welcome, ^^
  • dont we all love this song its one of the greatest
  • the best part of the movie, but i wish someone would upload the entire scene.
  • I watched this in school the other day, this song/scene is so moving.
  • yeah, I know how you feel. I almost cried when I saw this part!
  • the force feeding scene with the singing playing is really heavy, thanks for posting the song, its so beautiful.
  • I cried in Social Studies class when I saw this part but I love this song
  • Awesome! I have been looking everywhere for this!
  • what are the sounds from?? I mean, what were they doing?
  • It's Alice when she is being force fed. It's during when the protesting women were sent to jail for disturbing traffic. Alice conducted a hunger strike, so that's the noise.
  • oh, thanx
  • Thank you, thank you so much. The disturbing noises are part of the movie, and one should hear it- they fit well with this clip. Suffering behind a requiem. Well done, thank you, thank you SO much. Watch the movie, it's well done!
  • Yeah, I finished watching it, and this song was just to good to be true! THANK YOU!
  • In the name of God, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-giving
    I've been looking EVERYWHERE for this clip! I was balling my eyes out when I first saw this part of the movie. It was really powerful.
    This was an excellent movie, really showed the plight of women in the West. May God bless them and reward them for all their efforts. They were so oppressed and really struggled for their human dignity and equality.
  • This is fantastic! Where'd you find it?
  • Ares, but it took me about an hour to get it fully downloaded. I absolutely love it!
  • I've wanted this song so badly, thanks for posting. You rock!
  • Thanks! ^-^
  • I loved Iron Jawed Angels, and I cried when I first heard this song! T_T
