  • gggoooooooooooood

  • hey, this may be a dumb question but I'm a super beginner when it comes to computers...

I installed ubuntu successfully, then from ubuntu chose windows 7 as my main operating system. Now I'm booting in windows 7 and everthing is great...but I can't for the life of me figure out how to boot in ubuntu. Google / Youtube searches render nothing, although I know it must be extremely simple.

    could you help me out?

  • @Tboom123 same here!

  • i love that song!

  • i downloaded Ubuntu as a windows downloader and im deleteing my window folder off my compter do u think Ubuntu will still work?it has a dule boot on it were u seclet your running system at the start im just really worryed becouse i dont want to have to install windows xp 2008 again :/

  • Nice work, that was very useful.

  • Hey dude, nice work!I have made a Live CD Ubuntu, but i'm totally new in this stuff, though i really loved the Ubuntu,so i really want to try it on.I have one H.D. in my PC and another one which is USBed.Can i drop the Ubuntu System on that one?Or do i need to make that partition thing? Also is there any collosal risk on this? Thanks in advance and i'll be waiting fro your answear.

  • hey you know when it partitions does it remove the files already on the windows os you already have ?

  • I want to install linux as dual boot on my compaq armada 1500c with windows 98 already on it. It only has 32mb of ram I think....would it work?

  • the best Ubuntu installation tutorial ever, thankl you very much, very very heplful

  • its not 11.04

    i use 11.04

    im using it right now

  • Song?

  • @TheDigital333 scatman i think

  • @Legoboy00156 o nvm it is scatman

  • this......is.........not......ubuntu

  • @superstartrekker wht do you mean?

  • Is there a way to make it so it will skip the dual boot menu completely unless I hold down a key or something? I know I could change the boot menu time to 5 seconds or so, but I'd rather not do that, I just want to get rid of the menu unless I need it. I don't use Ubuntu unless I'm troubleshooting and can't get into Windows, and it's annoying that the boot menu pops up after every restart.

  • That installation process is easy, well, not so... BUT MUCH EASIER THAN PUT THE CORRECT LYRICS TO THE SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =O

  • The song was ok.. But other stuff uhhhh?

  • What version of ubuntu are you using

  • SCAT MANNN

    LOL nice track

GR8 VID SHOULD HAVE SHOWN WINDOWS GTIN ANGRY !!!!!!!!

  • use frikin wubi

  • when i go on partition edit thingy it says scaning all viruses and takes for ever !! help please

  • Scasajdkljaslkdjlksajdlkjaskbdsbaobadobaodbaodboabodbosaoidioasbdobaodb I'M A SCAT MAN!!!

  • i cant seem to resize or move, it must be locked

  • i have ubuntu, i don't have a installation disc for vista. what do i do if I want to go back to vista!!?

  • @ericasthename That's what this video is about: how to set up a dual boot. this means that you can have both vista and linux on the same computer. you choose which one you want to load when you start up the computer.

  • @ericasthename if you put these OS's on the same hard drive, then when it comes time to turn back on your pc you will have an option of vista or ubuntu to boot, if you dont choose within i think 10 seconds it will boot to ubuntu or vista. whichever is the "master" its not going to leave you hanging unless you format vista off of your C drive then your stuck with ubuntu until you dualboot again.

  • This song reminds me of the movie Baseketball, when the curly hair guy (matt stone?) just became a sell out and is doing a photoshoot. lol

  • Windows: What the F*** happened to 10GB of my partition!!!???

    Ubuntu: ......bitch got owned

  • I just built a computer and I installed Ubuntu on it already. If I put another hard drive with XP on it in, can I choose which one I boot from?

  • That's more complicated because normally a system will boot from whichever HD has priority in bios. You'll probably have to use a fancy boot loader (not grub, but maybe burg). Making partitions on a single HD is more common, in which case yes Grub will detect Windows (but not the other way around).

  • @charlocharlieL the easiest way to do this is to install windows first, then install ubuntu and the bootloader will already be their for both OS's

  • @Meleemaker HP no like Linux, (netbooks do tho :P) just saying.

I have a Pavilion that came with 4 partitions already on it so i can't make another one (one is HP tools and other is like System tools? Not Sure what they're for). If i were u i'd get an external and load it onto that. Just make sure u don't partition the external and take ur internal hard drive out first! I made that mistake and had to reformat my hard drive today :/

  • Can we get a tutorial on how to dual boot windows after ubuntu is the sole OS.

  • id update the vid for Ubuntu 10.10

  • RIP Scatman John, you will be missed dearly...

  • Where can i find a text version of this tut?

  • can you dual boot off of 2 hard drives? like the one inside of your computer has windows and an external has ubuntu but they both show up in the selection list?

  • I try to run it from the boot menu using ubuntu on a flashdrive and I get the screen and I hit the try/run ubuntu and it loads and gets to the point that it plays the cool music theme and the screen stays black for as long as I wait. I am running windows 7 on my HP elite book and I cant just install it because I need admin. I like using the ubuntu because I can remove the firewalls that I otherwise cant. So any ideas or better suggestions(I dont havea CD drive either)

  • hey, ur video is very helpful, but i have a ?. i am currently running ubuntu 10. 04 i think, GNOME, and i would like to dual boot to Windows XP preferably. how do i go about doing that? i already downloaded the GParted and on the "/dev/sda1" account it is 290 gigs, ive used only 175 gigs. i tried resizing my partition, but it doesnt give me the option to do so. how do i get to that page in ur vid labeled "install". either reply here or email me at ndhiman1122@yahoo.com, thank you

  • If I have already installed Ubuntu in Windows 7, how would I make either Ubuntu or Windows 7 load exclusively?

  • You don't need to add music to your video.

  • i got question, do you know how to make your start button show up again thats on bottom of computer screen, mine is gone and i cant get it to show again, kinda weird.

  • Can I automatically boot in Ubundu?? (because I use windows rarely)

  • @TheDim360 how is it that u can choose between ur bootable drives?? before start up screen i know we can choose the drive, but idk how.

  • when u download Ubuntu will all your stuff be there? Desktop items, documents, music, photos and most important all the stuff on my D and C Drive?

  • is it possible to have grub/ windows dual boot run windows by auto and be able to run linux by selecting it?

  • If I have Vista OS on the C drive and the data files on a partition D, should I install Ubuntu before or after the D partition?

  • kkjdfkndjfnajdnbfhbdfvbhvbasbhgfnbfvbxcbvzxvgfgbhdfgarfgadhsbxcvbvcsdbvahvbxhcdgAbsdchGdbxvcsjhdgfbvysdgflshdcgdygfLSgdyfgsdfgysdgf sdfsgfsdgfsdgfYSdgfl

im the scat man lyrics to song

  • Hey,

    i have a urgent doubt.....

i have already used ur method and ubuntu is on my system (ur method rocks)

now i am formatting my hard-disk... (while installing win xp)

    im leaving 20GB for ubuntu

so while setting partitions, is it good to set 20GB unallocated before?

or is it better to use gpart and then set 20GB for ubuntu?

    whats better?

  • @kintatzu333 SHUT UP!!!!! Windows games are equal to Mac games, I mean, ALL OF THE MAC GAMES ARENT INFECTED!!!!!! With windows you get infected by downloading 92% of the games!!!!!

  • @appleobsessed1 Wow cool Ur temper ffs

  • @Blacklashima Sorry, i was just trying to make a point, plus, I was younger than

  • why do u need 2 operating system anyway? mac and ubunta is so so f@cken left out when it comes to gaming they are sh1tty @s f@ck, windows xp and windows 7 rulzzz!!

  • @MachinimaMan141 Windows xp Professional SP2

  • I installed xubuntu recently and created a 10 gig partition, but when i restart my computer there is no grub bootloade? Plz help, I am really confused

  • SCATMAN?!?!? WTF I can't watch this video now.

  • Dont forget defragment your Windows partition before doing this. You can defragment it with "Tune Up".

  • I just want to make ABSOLUTELY no doubt about this, that installing it won't delete the windows part of your Hard Drive? I can't afford to have that happen so I want to make sure it won't before I try that.

  • When i run gparted it doesn't find my drive.

  • @Protomasterexe Did you load the drivers?

  • @caroline0204 Not sure. The linux distro came with gparted preloaded.

  • im installing unbutu i loveeed it and scatman is funny XD

  • thanks for this, you helped.

  • Two questions, can this work with ubuntu variants, like kubuntu or xubuntu? And does GParted come with ubuntu or it's variants?

  • Im the scatman!

  • skapadabadubibrabrabruribraaabruribruribruribruribruirdamdamdittodindon

  • LOL!I like the song!

  • i have a 1000gb hardrive oh yeah

  • do i have to set my bios to boot from cd or will it boot into ubuntu automaticly

  • i got a 69.5 gig hardive and 25 gigs left could i duel boot and how much memory would it take up????

  • I have a 187 gig harddrive, and about 74 gigs have been occupied, so I'm left with 113 gigs. How much space do u recommend I use? Windows has all my important things on it, and I use windows the most

  • imgburn is good utility that is free i prefer it over nero when burning an OS cause i can set it to 14x burn speed.

  • this music sucks, info was good

  • what was the name of the tool you used to burn the image

  • ok really nice tutorial...

i was trying to read huge documentations (which was really annoying me :@)

then i suddenly remembered utube, and i found ur video and i REALLY LIKE IT :D..

u could have just shown the GRUB boot loader....

do u have any videos which show's how to remove ubuntu ?? (that would be of real help)

    5 stars mate, u rock!

  • you didn't mention the migration assistant. would the migration assistant work using this method? my storage drive (not my boot drive) contains or my files and is windows formatted, i wanna be able to mount the drive to access in Ubuntu

  • I DON'T KNOW MY NAME!!help!

  • if i have a partition where are my games and all my things ,does ubuntu will open that partition

  • that is the sweetest song ever,

  • Installation starts at 3:56AM, and finishes at 11:05PM. But that is the previous day. You finished installing it before you started. Nice.

  • @paradox929 see how cool linux is? waste no time, d/l and install...

  • whats the music name?? lol

  • thanks. its really nice to know

  • thanks dude i'm gonna have to try this when i get my new comp =)

  • hi people!

I have installed Ubuntu in Windows 7. everything done perfect. Wenn a reboot, it boots automatically to Windows:-(

    any idea, why???

  • @akuleta you have to download a program like easybcd, and it makes it where you can choose between linux and windows. you can probably find tuts on how to do that on youtube.

  • actually i did the same and it went to ubuntu automatically tried the esc thing doesn't recognize that windows is there so is it ubuntu i need to shrink?

  • u need to boot the disk that u burned and do a clean fresh install of luinx

  • lol, they do make wine to get much dos stuff to run in linux...

  • Is this the same process with mint?

  • thanks that helped but can you help in trying to run counter strike or games like age of empire etc... i used wine but it did not work

  • you download it as an ISO then mount it to a disk use PowerISO to mount it

  • How can you get a Ubuntu Disk If it's free?

  • You can download it, and burn the iso to a DVD or CD.

Or you can ask them to mail you a free CD and they will it takes 6 weeks.

I'm use Ubuntu , but there are 100's of other linux distributions...

  • their website said 9 weeks i think. well it will depend on where u live maybe

  • download it from the ubuntu site

  • Soo... got this new pc and it got windows 7. Some of the games dont support it for gaming and its lagging. Is this ``ubuntu`` thing that it will run games smooth? sry im kinda noob ^^

  • they will not so much run smother as... not at all. none of the programs written for widows can run on ubuntu, there 2 totally different animals. but some programs are also written with an ubuntu version like firefox or flashplayer and you can get that version. more then likely you'll be able to find a equivalent program to do what your trying to do, gimp to replace photoshop, pigen to replace aim/msn ect. but be perpared there is a steap learning curve good luck :)

  • Lol Windows will get angry? Wtf? What do you mean?

  • @YourGamerzUpdate When you boot into Windows, it will say "The disk needs to be checked for consistency." You can skip, but I just went with it.

  • Thank you, very easy.

  • Thanks, this was the best tutorial I've found and the only one that was really clear and made sense for me. However, scatman will be stuck in my head for the next week or so.

  • CRAPPY SONG it SUCKS big time....Yuck

  • im a scatman sibiasfioasjdikdsjogmsdkgjmkfsdgmjfdjflhndfoiéjghdfujkm,mdusogdsfl

  • hey, i just ordered ubuntu 9.10 is duel boot the same.

also are all the apps. i have windows brought over to ububtu, and are all windows apps. compatible w/ ubuntu (including cracked apps)

im confused on the shrink thing you did before installation, is 10gb the amount of space ubuntu(just the operating system) is taking up of is that the amount of space i can use via abuntu. if so if im on 200gb.h.d. and i assign 50 i wont have any conflict w/ windows ?after xp checks partition everything good?

  • Do you know how to make Vista First on start up?

  • easy bcd

  • One suggestion, make a new video like this of Karmic Koala.

Gusty Gibbon is 2 years old already, and not suported anymore.

  • LOL At Ubuntu names!

  • gay music

  • My hard drive's gone down on my xp system. Can I use Ubuntu to recover photo's and video's etc?

    Please help

  • Yes.

They are all stored in /media.

    Well, the rest is simple.

  • What installier loads after gparted????

  • wow cool song!

  • Hahahaha! I'm more interested in the song than the video. :)

  • Windows will get angry it's partition has shrunk...lol.

  • I wish u would have made the text white so it could be seen.. black on a black background is hard to read

  • get a new pc. that's the only solution

  • thx ill try but i wanna know just incase if i can save photoshop on to a usb or CD cuz i dont wanna lose it cuz i had to pay for it........And my school has this but it has Ubuntu, windows and some other one

  • will u loose ur Stuff on the window vista site if u dual boot?

  • my graphics card is ati 9100/9000 igp 128 mb but can you explain me verry detalied how to instal ubuntu because ive installed ad some errors apers during the instalation and my windows xp crashed

  • Sorry I didn't reply on this, you should have pressed the reply button :P

In my case,it all went great,I actually Un-Installed and Installed Ubuntu 3-5 times. And all times it worked great.Search on a forum about your problem. If nothing works Try Reinstalling windows and Ubuntu again.

Or just stay with windows :-/

  • I have a question....

Can I edit the GRUB Boot Loader to change the line of OS's in order to make Windows XP boot first?Or I'll have to change the boot loader to Windows's?I just like GRUB's interface.

    Thanks in advance! Great video!

  • go to windows search for boot.ini and open it with notepad cut the ubuntu boot line and paste it under the Xp boot line, save it!

  • Im talking about GRUB,grub is set by Linux

Also, boot.ini is a system file, not meant to be found by search.Searching myself, didn't either find it.

  • so could i dual boot windows and OS X of i bought the disk or no?

  • no, not legally anyway

  • Ok, I've got a quick question..

If I have only Ubuntu installed on my computer, can I partition space for practically any OS?

(for instance, If I wanted to install Windows XP and dual boot with Ubuntu installed first.. would XP show up as an option under the GRUB loader?)

  • I think you can edit settings under the grub loader

to see oher os...you know? :P

  • I think Wubi is the solution, wubi is ubuntu cept you don't need to split ur partition and crap, and you don't get the GRUB boot menu, it loads to windows boot manager with the operating systems:

    Ubuntu

    Windows Xp Professional Edition

    hope that helped

  • @Kevin9631230 Wubi was sooo..... slowwww! I like the partitioned Ubuntu better ;)

  • It should do, yes

  • i was hopeing i could watch this video with sound but now i cant scince someone put skat man on there

  • if y have 1 gb ram and 128 mb video memory and 3.0 ghz intel pentium 4 can y install ubuntu and works fine?

  • I've got the exact same specs!!!! :DDDDD

It works fine, and you can get some of the compiz fusion effects. :)

    Not just some,but most!!! =]

    What's your graphics card anyway?

Mine is ATi RADEON 9250 Pro

  • the song is gay

    but nice video

  • I dont like seeing the grub loader at start up, is there a way around that?

  • If you have vista installed, use a program called EasyBCD. Go to manage bootloader, then click "write MBR" and it will return you to vista's bootloader.

  • say im running on a laptop, do i need particular drivers to get sound and etc working while using linux?

  • lol! nice video, it was very very useful.

  • does this make your computer slower?

  • AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual

    Core Processor 4200+

    2,20 ghz 1 Gb

    Shall i do??

  • easily :)

  • depends mainly on the size of your hard drive....but, yeah with those specs you shouldnt have a problem....usually if you can run xp fairly fast, then you wont have a problem with ubuntu, it'll just be a matter of wether or not you have enough space. good luck!

  • can you give me some advice... i have a mini-notebook namely HP2133 with 1 Ghz memory and 120 HDD... i tried to make it dual boot. first i installed windows XP. then i installed Ubuntu. the installation of Ubuntu was successful. every time i turn it on it asks me which OS i should choose, ubuntu or windows. the windows works well but the ubuntu doesn't. it boots and loads properly(showing ubuntu logo and the orange line) but after it sounds like a drummer, it doesn't show anymore the desktop.

  • you might be gettng the neccesary drivers to ubuntu....im not sure how you can fix that though...sry

  • I cant access the partition editor

  • which program supports ubuntu.

  • thanks, i installed linux just before your comment. i used wubi

  • Thanks for the vid!

  • Those with a NTFS need to run CHKDSK first and possibly defrag.

  • hi i want to install ubuntu REALLY BADLY but i want to keep everything on my vista and my vista installed witha duel boot. when i put the disc in, does it automatically delete my vista? or does it ask me later like in the video? PLEASE BEFORE I SCREW UP MY COMPUTER

  • Hi, how much memory will I need to dual boot Ubuntu on to my Window XP machine?

  • i would use at least 5 gigs and up to 7 or 8

  • music?

  • scat man

  • Hi I have been planing on installing ubuntu for some time but I only have 30GB left on my 130GB HDD. However I have a 1TB Western Digital external HD and it seems a waste to use that. My problem is I cant partition it with the Vista disk manager cos it it Fat32 and I already have 115GB of backups and stuff on it that I don't want to delete any of it. Does anyone know how to partition it?

  • thats a pain in the ass dude... either sacrifice your backups or forget this dual booting.. or ask someone to hold the files that you have on your eHD and format it then partition..

  • With my 320GB WD External HD, I pluged it in and booted into an Ubuntu live CD. I then used gparted to shrink the filesystem on the External HD. I set the free space to ext3 and set a boot flag. I then ran the installer as normal, selecting my external HD at the partition screen and selecting the partition I had made. Continued as normal until I reached the final screen, where there is an advanced tab. I clicked that and told it to install GRUB to the partition I was installing Ubuntu on.

  • Bear in mind, however, that there is always a chance of data loss when screwing with partitions.

  • Omg Thank you! Thank you! This helped me out :D

  • You can just get Wubi XD

  • Wubi has lots of bugs, this way is far better in many ways... i dont even want to get into it...

  • You are right, but you can still do it within The Live CD =]

But I uninstalled it today (as well as installed lol)

It was really difficult to get my whole partition back to windows.I had to use a program to fix that...Cause you can't uninstall Ubuntu by itself :|

Anyways though I'm planning to reinstall it,i like the wobbly windows on my Radeon 9250 Pro without lag when in windows I can't even move the windows itself....

  • yeah, what i did when i had windows 7 on a partition was i formatted it using EASEUS partition manager and than just expander xp again, wasy :D

  • Damn,I am unable to Partition the disk,I dunno why =(

I mean by installer itself...I think I'll try Gparted from the Live CD

    Hope I make it =/

  • Oh ok, btw sorry for the typos yesterday I was in a hurry. Well did you give easeus partition manager a go? its free of cnet, thats what I did yesterday on my sisters laptop and it worked perfect :D What did you try to partition it with?

  • Hmmm,I used BootIt Ng Partition Manager and a bit of chkdsk to fix some problems, and now reinstalled Ubuntu =]

The problem was sumet on the HD BitMap D:

    I fixed it though :P

  • Oh,btw what Program you use to make the bootable disks? I'm using ImgBurn. Its way better than Nero and its really lightweight...

    =]

  • Im reinstalling Ubuntu again...

Because 9.04 hasn't got so many things to do as Hardy Heron LTS (8.04)

I'm done with partitioning once again :d

Im going to install the older...(a passtime lawl :>)

    Still tough I don't mind =] I think I love Linux,but I love XP too xD

  • Can you tell me how to install UBUNTU inside WIndows....

  • Use VMware it uses virtual computers

    :)
