They're an aggressively invasive species of Asian carp that were imported to clean catfish ponds along the Mississippi that were accidentally freed during major flooding. They now threaten the entire Mississippi, Illinois and Ohio River habitats for all sport fish as well as being dangerously close in invading the Great Lakes

I believe the light causes them to jump, I have heard of folks taking a sheet and shining a light on it to get mullet to jump into boat...
