  • Hey, I'm a woman. Do the same techniques apply to me? Or am I supposed to do something different? Before you answer, look up Otep and The Agonist.

  • too much talk - mutch to less visual no singing so almost useless video - dahm!

  • Hate it when the 2 Top Comments are the same ! -__-

  • im a girl and i was told i should sing metal because i scream well and do high notes well, now I'm wanting to learn how to do vocals properly because i literally have NO idea how to start doing it without fucking up my voice.gonna try these breathing techniques.

  • Thanks man!! This really helped me to figure out my flaws... thnx again!

  • This guy looks like the Undertaker! haha

  • i love how the top two comments are the same.....not

  • wow that t-shirt kicks ass, where did you get it? :)

  • Youtube should charge for shameless self-advertising. No real here, move along.

  • Can anyone help me out? I'm trying to figure out how to sing with "gruffness", where the voice sounds powerful and firey but its still technically singin (james hetfield uses this technique). Its difficult for me to find that kind of "fire" because I've listened to a lot of death metal and jumped from singing to growling immediately, so I can't find that "in between" now :/. Whenever I try to add the fire to my voice I naturally turn it from a musical note into a growl.

  • @mobman47 I'm currently working on pretty much the very same thing. Except I don't have any previous growling-experience. You should check out the book "Complete Vocal Technique" (or just google it, there might be useful tips & tricks on their forums). It's a technique called Distortion, which is quite easy to learn in itself, but takes tons of practice to master it, and actually using it in a song with good results.

But check out "Complete Vocal Technique". It will do you good :)

  • @Sarrgas I just googled it but its apparently its a little obscure, is the author Cathrine Sadolin?

  • @mobman47 Yes, it is. If you intend to find the forums, try searching for "CVI forums" (CVI = Complete Vocal Institute, which is the institute founded by Cathrine Sadolin to teach the CVT techniques).

  • why the top comments says the same thing? i mean who is so stupid to vote 2 times for the same thing in the same video?

  • my friend is i real good singer and im startin out and he told me to start out by whispering.any idea of what he meant?

  • @pivotzrule He might've meant to not strain yourself by trying to be louder than you're ready for. Singing a song a bit quieter than it's originally made can help you to recognize the pitches and know where you need to work on your range. You shouldn't have notes you can only hit when you scream, that will kill your vocal chords.

  • @pivotzrule sing in a whisper. but loudly. it does help you find ur intimate voice

  • @pivotzrule Don't whisper. Its actually bad for your voice.

  • @pivotzrule yes bro i know what he meant :D u should try to whisper and push more air it will sound a little like screaming i dunno how it's sound heavy metal hope this help :)

  • I don't really think you can 'train' your voice. The way I see it you either have it or you don't, it's part of your genetics, singing is not like playing the guitar. James Hetfield used to have a natural voice (it's kind of deteriorated now) and Phil Anselmo (Pantera) does too.

  • @ireternalexistence If you can breath, speak, and think, then you can sing. Some people pick it up a little easier but anyone with lungs and a voice box is capable of singing. Yes, you can train your voice, just like you can learn to play the guitar. We all speak in certain pitches, when we give a stern answer to a question our voice is low, making us hit lower pitches, and we get excited then our voice gets higher and hits higher pitches.

  • @ireternalexistence If you break it down, singing is just the lengthening of notes that we hit all the time in our everyday normal speech. You have to start with finding your range and then practice scales (practicing with an instrument helps a lot). Stay in your range. If your straining to hit a note, as in it's hurting your voice, then it's out of your range. Just like anything it takes practice and patience to master. You can do anything you set your mind to.

  • @ireternalexistence u could not be more wrong

  • how to sing like corey taylor???

  • @slashsnake162 use a dildo xD

  • sooo hes telling us to smoke a candle???? aha;)

  • lol i bet he has A WHOLE LOT of sore throats :D

  • 30 seconds hold a note???

  • One thing you did not mention was to drink a warm drink, It helps alot fr Metal Voices

  • where did they dig up this guy? that shirt is so metal. you need to give a tutorial on how to not only dress but actually sing. not only did you contradict yourself you didnt even sing at all. Just give up. and change the video name to douche whos gonna wear a gay ass affliction shirt and talk about candles and how your gonna hop on a meat pole as soon as the videos over. but hey thats just one opinion. trailers smell awful. no matter how much axe you buy and spray around your double wide.

  • @volcomreef0 What the hell are you on about??

  • i'm black and i wanna start my own band ha ha

  • @RigamortisGardless Well im black and im in a metal band so if i can start a band theres no dought u can.

  • @RigamortisGardless Im sure you can play bass no problem.

  • hey cm punk ;)

  • 30 seconds!?

  • Thanks Ralph!

  • not 30

  • This guy knows what he is talking about. And you will not hurt your vocal chords.

  • I train my voice everyday and my voice is to compare with jacoby shaddix from papa roach really rhaspy !

  • @johnnyboy9881 I feel sorry for you

  • @Deathsiren Why sorry ? I mean p roach is a great band and im quiet happy with it!

  • What if, if you find your voice, and it isn't good enough?

Is there anything you can do about it?

  • @PowerSourceTheBand you have a low a normal or a high voice. if you have a high voice you sing high and do alot of screaming (like metallica iron maiden or slayer) if you have a mid voice you can do the rather brutal things where you really constantly yell and if you have a really low one you could also yell or just start growling.

  • @TheNameIsPascal actually it depends on the person. Corey taylor can do all three. sing, scream, and growl

  • @unknownsungod3 Haha, sing..

  • @unknownsungod3 corey taylor fucking sucks. I'm not even saying that because I dislike Slipknot. Have you ever seen them live? He is pathetic. Constanstly out of breath. Half of the time shouts and yells, which are not the same things as screaming and growling.

  • @BringerOfTruth123 Hey c'mon ever heard him studio?? what do you expect from a dude tht wears freakin jumpsuit n jumps around on stage he wear out himself but he still sounds the same just like on itunes n live

  • @Potaddict47 well he should worry less about jumping around and more about being a good vocalist.....although I do know that nobody is perfect.

  • so its possible to make your voice deeper? i wanna be able to sing headstrong by trapt/holly wood whore n last resort by papa roach

  • @alanaz123 listen to arch enemy;) a female grunting like most men cant. Its in the technique notin the voice, yea okay you cant expect with a high voice to sing deathcore, but yknow, its mostly in the technique. I was amazed by myself when I was warmed up nicely how low I could get. If you get your technique right its not a prob
