(rotor taill)
what the heck hapend!!!!! i was at a show once and there was a 3 heli 3d display
2 small helis and one big one in the centre went up and hovered for about 2 seconds, then as they went to fly off the centre larger one looked like it almost exsploded just like that
it happened to me that while i was starting to hover my t-rex 450 clone the blade suddenly snapped and hit my shin, i was standing around 4 to 5 meters away. but still got hit by the blade, 3 stitches mate... still lucky... hehehe
This is the one thing that I will never let happen to my helicopter. Its the only thing that ever honestly scares me about the hobby. Do you know what made the blade come loose? Did the blade break at the root or did the grips seperate?
some of the best 3D flying I have ever seen....that move is called the origami followed by the yardsale technique. I have only seen it performed once, but it starts with creasing your helicopter down the middle then you.......
My theory: I don't think the blades hit each other - this is rather impossible due to the centrifugal force. Check the image 0:18": One blade is just flying away and the remaining one is loosing balance and is smashed down, than it's swinging up again after hitting the lower limit of rotor head inclination. Half a turn later in image 0:19" the rotor head was instantly slowed down and the blade clapped in like a closing Swiss knife - and that was the force destroyed the fuselage
dustsmoke your wrong! you have to epoxy the blade grips. These are the plastic pieces on the blades that get wedged together. if you dont glue them down you have problems like this. I havent used woodies in years for this reason. nothing like CF on the head
If those are wooden blades, he didnt epoxy the blade grips, or they were epoxied to the covering of the blade itself. This rarely happens when you do your shit right.
Except only problem is you don't epoxy blades to grips in RC helicopters. You bolt through the blades to the grips so the blades are free to swing. Shows what you know.
He's talking about the plastic reinforcements over the holes on wood blades. Putting epoxy on those is well known. Not doing it can cause a thrown blade, but it looks like something else happened here.

I know exactly what happened. You spent a shit ton of money on a toy. spent tons of hours building it. You spent even more hours lovingly tweaking it so it would fly, then you spent even more money on accesories for it, only to have it rip itself into an unrepairable pile of junk in less than 2 seconds, and you know what???
If I had to guess based on the high torque boom strike I'd say it was something in the head rather than the blade itself. Maybe a loose feathering shaft or the top side of the grip cracking or the bolt itself. Who knows, never seen one actually break apart like that mid air.
I've had a similar crash with my nine eagles coaxial when I was throwing it round much as I could (obvious reasons) I just got the twister 3d storm 4 xmas and it say's in the manual not to exceed 2000 rpm I geuss this is why but I'm tempted to try now.. at a distance.
Yes,the blade grip was broken (material fault). The rotor was to 1400 RPM (normal speed). The complete head was a Hirobo Stork of the 80' possibly with many hours of stress
Yes its a pity - looked like such a nice model.I take it an inspection of the head prior to flight would have revealed no problems? I suppose like full size aircraft stress cracks appear and parts should be replaced after so many hours.Sad to see it go down like that :(
Sí, pero a Dios gracias no pasó nada peor, teniendo en cuenta que detrás mío habían 200 personas y la pala pasó por arriba de todos ellos y fué a caer a 150 mts.

That is sure to be a loose blade epoxy. in the slowmo, one can see the blade fling out the holder and hits the fuse.
i would always recommend to use atleast composite blades with fuselages. NO WOODEN Blades, throw them away.

the heli lost a blade . could be the head speed to high or faulty blade grip
nippasnapper 3 years ago 2
i don't understand why that helicopter exploded...
wlollpop 3 years ago
Watch closely. One blade detaches, the heli looses balance and the torque just tears it apart.

that goes to show how quickly things can go wrong with this type of thing...
