FYI Haggis is very similar with Mongolian Tsuvdai which is our traditional food, whole ingredients are matching. But inside that ox intestine we put ingredients with bigger cuts. And it is the best traditional meal in Mongolia as your Haggis in Scotland. For me it was great discovery!!
hm, i've heard about haggis before... We have something in Greece, called ''kokoretsi'' that uses the same more or less basic incredients, sheep's lungs, liver and guts mainly. the main difference is that the chopped liver and lungs are seasoned raw with salt, pepper and oreganon and then are impaled on a long iron stick, then wrapped tightly with the guts and seasoned again. then it is cooked by turning it slowly over burning charcole...
I love haggis but then maybe that's because I'm Scottish. The funny thing is I don't like liver etc. at all but as the ingredients of haggis it's A-OK. A son-in-law of mine who is a Canadian of Ukrainian background tried it while he was visiting and he really liked it. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.
Everyone is always telling me haggis is really gross, but it actually looks pretty good. I'd try it, but hey I used to love sucking on pickled pigs feet when I was little. LOL
Chappit tatties are mashed potatoes and bashed neeps are mashed swedes (orange turnips)! If you're ever in Scotland, try it. It's a lot nicer than it sounds!!!
There's also a third one, "caltabosh" which is pork lower intestine filled with minced meat mixed with spices, rice and minced onion, dill and parsley, shaped like a huge sausage.
Boiled in salted water with laurel leaves, pepper and paprika powder. This, as well as the "toba" is a specific Christams dish. It is prepared on December 21,St. Ignatius day, when porks are butchered throughout the land for the Christmas.
The other one, called "drob". Lamb entrails (liver, lungs, heart)boiled, minced and mixed with onions and dill, black pepper, parsley and eggs. Mixture is wrapped in the lamb's peritoneus, put in a tray greased using lamb fat and baked. Or, a dough is prepared from flour and eggs and covers the mixture which is baked. Whole boiled eggs without shell are added. For the first plum brandy, 60 degrees and for the second dry red wine. The latter is a specific Easter dish.
I've never had Haggis because I live in the US and Haggis is illigal here, because it has sheep lungs in it (stupid reason i know) but I will be moveing to Scotland in a few years so that will be my first Scottish experiance. lol ur video was great!

While I was in Scotland they served us Haggis and it was more like a meatloaf, is that because of the modern way of cooking it?

Cute! We've got that in Romania too...!!!!
Pork stomach filled with minced pork entrails (lungs, liver, heart) mixed with rice or wheat, seasoned and then boiled. That is "toba" (drum).

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread.
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll mak it whissle;
An' legs an' arms, an' hands will sned,
Like taps o' trissle.

Having been to Scotland once, I found the people great and the countryside delightful. I would eat this. Especially out in the fresh air, like that!
