@XTacticsGaming yes they do eat birds why do you think it got its name for??? its rare they will eat a bird they stick to other things to eat like crickets and shit!
@aSimulatedHigh You do not feed a tarantula pellets. That is just stupid. I feed mine Super worms and crickets. Another problem with feeding tarantula mice is the fact that mice have high amounts of calcium which can cause a tarantula to have a bad molt.
@morganfinley3 Mice do have a high amount of calcium. The T. Blondi do have molting problems in general and high calcium in their diet can lead to a molt problem. But yes they are strong and will win in the end but there still is a chance that a mouse could bite the spider even after the spider has grabbed it.
So I've looked at about 20 different spider eating YouTube videos and there's always those ppl who say it's cruel and blah blah blah. But the this is I got my spider from a pet store. If I didn't buy it then it would've stayed there til it died. Now alteast it's getting fed and handled like it's supposed to. Go be a troll somewhere else. Or I'll make my tarantula attack u with it's spidey skills:)
@Foebanee feeding them adult mice is no different that feeding them infant mice or frozen mice, its still a mouse whatever way you look at it, the spider needs to eat, just like us humans need to eat
we humans eat chickens, cows, turkeys, pigs, lambs, fish, game birds, rabbit etc...its called the food chain, how is a spider eating a mouse any different that us eating a cow or a chicken or a pig???
@Ken9284 unless your pinky and the brain then you take over the world because you 1 smart ass mouse and a dumbass mouse that is still smarter than the average mouse
@pitbull848 Filming goes a long way in educating the public about the world around us. Nature isn't always nice. And the poor mousie didn't die needlessly; he was food for something higher on the food chain. That's just the way things work.
@323tiim Who said anything about killing the spider? I love all animals, what I have a problem with is dickheads keeping these types of animals and feeding them live animals for entertainment. Nature,no problem, but doing this for fun. Who keeps a spider anyway?!
@dominiccarter77 This mouse died a quick painless death. I can tell you now that Cats do not kill their prey as swiftly as this, in fact they torture their prey. This could actually kill the Tarantula as Mice contain alot of calcium which is dangerious for a T's diet. The calcium from mice can effect how the T's exoskeleton froms and can create problems when maulting. Mice should'nt be fead to T's, a Roach or Cricket are much better for it's health. P.S whats wrong with keeping Tarantulas?.
The spider won't eat prey that is dead. They only accept live food. That mouse was most likely bred to be a feeder anyway, so that's all it's purpose was in life. It's called the cycle of life.
I'm just saying, I feed my pet fish live food for the most part. There's no reason for people to freak out about it. I think what gets people is the fact it's an invertebrate eating a vertebrate. Plus, I prefer to keep the food as fresh as possible.
Thanks, I try. I'm planning on getting a bird eater myself, and I find all this interesting. And I get what you're saying, there are people like that. If I am to feed my tarantula mice or birds, it would be purely for the sake of feeding the animal.
it is totally unnecessary, however. tarantuals in the wild will eat anything reasonable that comes by. they are sit, wait, and ambush predators. in the wild, sometimes a mouse strolls by, sometimes it's a cricket.
when you have one as a pet, there's really no sense in feeding it mice/birds. getting them is a hassle on its own as compared to just crickets. insects, based on their simple CNS systems, don't feel as much pain and die much quicker than birds/mice. its senseless.
It 25 cents for a live mouse...twice more than a small cricket where I live. Not a hassle. I really don't care about the mouse's feelings. It was bred for one purpose. To be food.
also, hassle has more to do with cost. actually, i haven't seen a live mouse for less than 2 dollars, but thats pretty cheap anyway.
but... it's more than that. tarantulas don't just eat when the animal is there. often, they won't eat for months because they are getting ready to moult. in this case, you will have to keep the mouse alive- it being a mammal, it needs to eat often.
crickets can survive for long periods of time with essentially no concern. again, things are not just single-fold.
So there's really no point in continuing this once healthy discussion. the concern involved what was appropriate feed. mice/birds have greater intelligence, complex CNS systems, pain sensitivity, and are harder to kill- actually, they often end up killing the spider.
since you do not care about any of that, i question why you would care about a spider. a lot of people keep animals because they seem 'cool.' this is quite naive.. you have to question anything that tampers with the 'cycle of life'
no, i couldn't find your reply to my comment but i believe we were talking about if it escaped, y'know OUT of its terrarium running around your house?
not exactly. the 'cycle of life' is a passive process, meaning things will happen as they happen without being driven in any one direction. for example, the giraffe didn't evolve a long neck to reach higher branches, some giraffe(s) just happened to have mutations that caused a long neck, which happened to be better, and made long necked giraffes more fit as mates over time.
this is artificial and active- someone feeding a pet or specimen in a closed environment. i.e. not the cycle of life.
That's natural selection...I should be more specific and say the food chain. That's always been synonymous with cycle of life with me. But one way or another, the live food was bound to be eaten or dead, if not a cricket or a mouse, something else.
the 'cycle of life' is far more than just what eats what. but that's going into semantics.
i'm not questioning what the fate of the prey item was, i'm questioning who decides it. deciding the fate of an animal before it was even born goes in the total opposite direction of a natural event in any sort.
In the pet food shop where we go with our dog, they sell frozen mice. Under UK law, they would have to be killed humanely. I know that these are primarily for snake food. I didn't realise that spiders will only go for live food.
spiders and their cousins- scorpions, crabs, etc. really only eat live food. it's not because they're vicious. they do not 'take bites,' they can only 'drink' the food when its liquid. the venoms and other chemicals they inject in the prey cause it to liquify.
dead do not liquify as well- depending on how recently they have died. that said, i have put 2 crickets in for my tarantula. one cricket killed the other cricket. after a few days, i noticed both were gone. obviously one was eaten dead.
Here's the thing though, if were keeping an animal in our house, then it is your responsibility to maintain a habitat that can resemble its natural habitat as best as you can. So in that sense alone, how often do you think crickets are the main supply of food for a tropical tarantula? So there alone defeats what you are saying...small animals like frogs are more of the spiders main prey...not saying insects aren't...maybe its more of a 50/50.
that's not necessarily the case. a tarantula's food is chemically converted into the same thing- liquid nutrition, whether a mouse, cricket, or roach, etc. in fact, crickets provide more per weight nutrition than mice.
also, you're incorrect about spiders' prey. insects are well over 90% of a tarantula's diet. finding a spider that has preyed upon a mouse or bird is extremely rare.
I'll say this much, you bring up valid points...but us being the humans we are, we have already meddled in the cycle of life to the point where we can't really get out of it. Farming, industrialization, and even keeping pets has tampered our ecosystem, so no matter what either of us says, we're all wrong in what man kind has done. I probably am wrong about the prey ratio however. But like I said, we've interfered as a species too much into the cycle of life, mind as well deal with it, ya know?
no i dont think this way. what keeps the world going backwards is this exact thought: "such and such is easier, so why even bother with something helpful." what says we cannot reverse the damage we've done? the earth is a resilient place.
every species will affect the environment in some way. farming is not destructive, but actually constructive and makes the ecosystem healthier. as for the industrialization, we are moving closer to clean energy- solar, wind, etc. than ever before.
we get much of the medicine that keeps up alive from rainforests, but these are going to be gone soon at the current rate. the atmosphere will be too thin to support our needs.
at that point, humans have the ability to destroy themselves. when we finally reach the breaking point, we will either die or be forced to change our ways that way- most other life will benefit from it. you say 'why deal with it,' well in truth it's: 'you will have to deal with it or else destroy everything.'
I'm not against anything helpful to the environment, but as far as I see it, it's gonna be real tough to get this earth balanced again. Farming is indeed destructive, land is cleared, reducing habitat space and domestic animals produce a lot of waste...aka methane. We have already depleted the population of many animals and some are extinct. I'm talking more about the industrialization that has already taken place has done a lot of damage. Personally solar energy is my fave, and I'm all for it.
farming is not destructive, modern agricultural practices are. when the mesopotamians discovered farming, it made desert lands into fertile land teaming with life. in those times land was not cleared, but generated. there are modern ways to get back to that.
the methane from animals is not from farming, but from mass demand for meat. we can move away from chemically infested lands and slaugherhouses with millions of cows releasing methane. we just love our burger king too much, right?
@EdudLufetips The farming you're talking about isn't used anymore unfortunately, that's something that needs to be changed, agreed. But that still doesnt rule out how land is cleared, especially rain forests for such purposes. I like beef, I wont lie. However, I dont eat fast food ever. The population as a whole? yes, they do. I eat kosher beef as well...these animals are taken care of before they are killed. The thing is, humans are omnivores, and many people won't give up meat in general.
i mentioned it wasn't used anymore, yes. i was referring to the possibility of change and many groups' initiatives to reform.
it's not about eating meat. it's about excess. i look around now, most people are fat. we don't eat for nourishment, we eat to excess. it's a disgrace. one bite or two of a burger is enough to sustain us for many hours. but we need a ribeye steak or double burger.
@EdudLufetips I agree with change on farming/agricultural techniques whole heartedly-as a species that can grow/raise its own food, we should do it responsibility. This is true, we think a like on this aspect, people over eat and that food pyramid is largely ignored. One 4 ounce burger and a side of salad and some water is all one needs for a meal. Not a slab of steak and tons of food followed by a fatty dessert.
That's another thing...medicine. I don't take medicine...ever. Unless prescribed by a doctor to keep me alive, I refuse to take it. I think this has weakend humans as well, reliance on tech/med. The thing is, we are already on a crash course. The best we can do now is slow it down. My point is before was keeping the spider as a pet already is out of place, so why does what we feed it matter at that point? does it make a difference? I'm all for fixing what we have done...at least heal some of it.
you are confusing abusers with those who need drugs.
there are drugs keeping people alive- some who are amongst the most influential in the world. because of what has gone on, the building blocks of these medicines won't be available.
and about keeping a spider: you say 'already keeping a spider.' you make the choice to get the spider initially. that is out of place, but why not minimize by providing a cricket, something that will die instantly and not feel pain?
@EdudLufetips Most of the population abuses drugs. Viagra, midol, advil, aleve, cough syrup. We don't need these, I'm living proof...except for the midol part...but even then, girls dont need it. I'm not saying medicine is useless, but dependence has grown...horrifyingly. The thing with keeping any animal, except cats and dogs, is that they are wild. Very few animals are truly domesticated. I believe it to be the owners responsibility to recreate the animals natural habitat as best as possible.
i think people exaggerate drug abuse. even something so common, easily obtainable, and legal, such as alcohol: there are about 5 million americans abusing alcohol (as per the FDA), but over 300 million americans. that's less than 2%... most of the population doesn't abuse drugs.
my point wasn't about how drugs should be used, but that they have become necessary. people say 'people lived without medicine once.' yes, but died at the age of 30. my point was that this progress stops w deforestation
@EdudLufetips Eh, I'll give on the exaggeration, but even something like alcohol isnt needed, we have a lot of luxuries and frivolities now a days, including this computer, but hey, that's mankind and its big brain. Medicine in my mind shouldn't be used unless its life altering or threatening. Someone with a disability or disease than can be helped by medicine, sure go for it. Got the sniffles? deal with it. Thats my take.
while alcohol isn't a medicine, its definitely a drug, i was just using it to point to the fact that veryfew people abuse drugs- and alcohol is the most abuseable.
it is mainly about diseases, not sniffles. i tore 2 ligaments in my knee and the pain was to the point where i considered suicide to escape it. pain meds during the healing process saved me. also look @ cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. these plague a huge portion of the population. these are the drugs we'd be without.
@EdudLufetips I see your point, and I'll give you that. That's the use of drugs I abdicate, not headaches, sniffles, sore muscles, sprains, cuts and the like...we have weakened as a species. I'm not saying medicine is bad, just used when it really doesnt need to be. Cancer and the such like your case are all VERY legit reasons. We have the technology to cure/help those conditions, so we should use it. For other things, our bodies are the best medicine, as well as a good diet and rest.
The earth is indeed resilient, and I believe as long as it's tectonically active, we have a chance. However there are people who are out there who frankly dont care...poaching and deforestation will continue unless a serious effort into stopping it takes place.
Kudos to the spider on this one. I would rather have a creepy, huge spider roam my house than disgusting fuzz ball rats that piss and shit all over everything and causes major amounts of house damage.
I don't know. I think I would rather have the rat which I can trap. With the spider, I would constantly have to worry about my cat finding it and getting bite and dieing.
Well this depends. In a cage a brown rat will not win against a pitbull, but if it was outside of a cage it'd probably run. As for the spider, this depends, if it got a good shot on the brown rat it might have a chance but i'd probably bet my money on the brown rat.
EPIC LOL.

The spider won't eat prey that is dead. They only accept live food. That mouse was most likely bred to be a feeder anyway, so that's all it's purpose was in life. It's called the cycle of life.

Some predators (piranhas, for example) will eat dead food, so there's no need to feed them live food like some asses insist on doing.
Unfortunetely... spiders only eat live food.

On youtube I really don't expect intelligent answers. Yours however was and made me think. You're right.
As mammals it is somewhat horrifying the thought of offering another mammal to be eaten alive by another animal.
However I do condemn doing so if they're doing it just for kicks. Because some sick fucks actually get off from watching other creatures suffer.
Bastian9820 2 years ago
Thanks, I try. I'm planning on getting a bird eater myself, and I find all this interesting. And I get what you're saying, there are people like that. If I am to feed my tarantula mice or birds, it would be purely for the sake of feeding the animal.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
it is totally unnecessary, however. tarantuals in the wild will eat anything reasonable that comes by. they are sit, wait, and ambush predators. in the wild, sometimes a mouse strolls by, sometimes it's a cricket.
when you have one as a pet, there's really no sense in feeding it mice/birds. getting them is a hassle on its own as compared to just crickets. insects, based on their simple CNS systems, don't feel as much pain and die much quicker than birds/mice. its senseless.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
It 25 cents for a live mouse...twice more than a small cricket where I live. Not a hassle. I really don't care about the mouse's feelings. It was bred for one purpose. To be food.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
also, hassle has more to do with cost. actually, i haven't seen a live mouse for less than 2 dollars, but thats pretty cheap anyway.
but... it's more than that. tarantulas don't just eat when the animal is there. often, they won't eat for months because they are getting ready to moult. in this case, you will have to keep the mouse alive- it being a mammal, it needs to eat often.
crickets can survive for long periods of time with essentially no concern. again, things are not just single-fold.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
So there's really no point in continuing this once healthy discussion. the concern involved what was appropriate feed. mice/birds have greater intelligence, complex CNS systems, pain sensitivity, and are harder to kill- actually, they often end up killing the spider.
since you do not care about any of that, i question why you would care about a spider. a lot of people keep animals because they seem 'cool.' this is quite naive.. you have to question anything that tampers with the 'cycle of life'
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
no, i couldn't find your reply to my comment but i believe we were talking about if it escaped, y'know OUT of its terrarium running around your house?
gibblesthechicken 2 years ago
not exactly. the 'cycle of life' is a passive process, meaning things will happen as they happen without being driven in any one direction. for example, the giraffe didn't evolve a long neck to reach higher branches, some giraffe(s) just happened to have mutations that caused a long neck, which happened to be better, and made long necked giraffes more fit as mates over time.
this is artificial and active- someone feeding a pet or specimen in a closed environment. i.e. not the cycle of life.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
That's natural selection...I should be more specific and say the food chain. That's always been synonymous with cycle of life with me. But one way or another, the live food was bound to be eaten or dead, if not a cricket or a mouse, something else.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
the 'cycle of life' is far more than just what eats what. but that's going into semantics.
i'm not questioning what the fate of the prey item was, i'm questioning who decides it. deciding the fate of an animal before it was even born goes in the total opposite direction of a natural event in any sort.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
@fcmarcus How are you gonna kill it?
eamonia 2 years ago
In the pet food shop where we go with our dog, they sell frozen mice. Under UK law, they would have to be killed humanely. I know that these are primarily for snake food. I didn't realise that spiders will only go for live food.
fcmarcus 2 years ago
spiders and their cousins- scorpions, crabs, etc. really only eat live food. it's not because they're vicious. they do not 'take bites,' they can only 'drink' the food when its liquid. the venoms and other chemicals they inject in the prey cause it to liquify.
dead do not liquify as well- depending on how recently they have died. that said, i have put 2 crickets in for my tarantula. one cricket killed the other cricket. after a few days, i noticed both were gone. obviously one was eaten dead.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
Here's the thing though, if were keeping an animal in our house, then it is your responsibility to maintain a habitat that can resemble its natural habitat as best as you can. So in that sense alone, how often do you think crickets are the main supply of food for a tropical tarantula? So there alone defeats what you are saying...small animals like frogs are more of the spiders main prey...not saying insects aren't...maybe its more of a 50/50.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
that's not necessarily the case. a tarantula's food is chemically converted into the same thing- liquid nutrition, whether a mouse, cricket, or roach, etc. in fact, crickets provide more per weight nutrition than mice.
also, you're incorrect about spiders' prey. insects are well over 90% of a tarantula's diet. finding a spider that has preyed upon a mouse or bird is extremely rare.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
I'll say this much, you bring up valid points...but us being the humans we are, we have already meddled in the cycle of life to the point where we can't really get out of it. Farming, industrialization, and even keeping pets has tampered our ecosystem, so no matter what either of us says, we're all wrong in what man kind has done. I probably am wrong about the prey ratio however. But like I said, we've interfered as a species too much into the cycle of life, mind as well deal with it, ya know?
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
no i dont think this way. what keeps the world going backwards is this exact thought: "such and such is easier, so why even bother with something helpful." what says we cannot reverse the damage we've done? the earth is a resilient place.
every species will affect the environment in some way. farming is not destructive, but actually constructive and makes the ecosystem healthier. as for the industrialization, we are moving closer to clean energy- solar, wind, etc. than ever before.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
we get much of the medicine that keeps up alive from rainforests, but these are going to be gone soon at the current rate. the atmosphere will be too thin to support our needs.
at that point, humans have the ability to destroy themselves. when we finally reach the breaking point, we will either die or be forced to change our ways that way- most other life will benefit from it. you say 'why deal with it,' well in truth it's: 'you will have to deal with it or else destroy everything.'
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
I'm not against anything helpful to the environment, but as far as I see it, it's gonna be real tough to get this earth balanced again. Farming is indeed destructive, land is cleared, reducing habitat space and domestic animals produce a lot of waste...aka methane. We have already depleted the population of many animals and some are extinct. I'm talking more about the industrialization that has already taken place has done a lot of damage. Personally solar energy is my fave, and I'm all for it.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
farming is not destructive, modern agricultural practices are. when the mesopotamians discovered farming, it made desert lands into fertile land teaming with life. in those times land was not cleared, but generated. there are modern ways to get back to that.
the methane from animals is not from farming, but from mass demand for meat. we can move away from chemically infested lands and slaugherhouses with millions of cows releasing methane. we just love our burger king too much, right?
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
@EdudLufetips The farming you're talking about isn't used anymore unfortunately, that's something that needs to be changed, agreed. But that still doesnt rule out how land is cleared, especially rain forests for such purposes. I like beef, I wont lie. However, I dont eat fast food ever. The population as a whole? yes, they do. I eat kosher beef as well...these animals are taken care of before they are killed. The thing is, humans are omnivores, and many people won't give up meat in general.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
i mentioned it wasn't used anymore, yes. i was referring to the possibility of change and many groups' initiatives to reform.
it's not about eating meat. it's about excess. i look around now, most people are fat. we don't eat for nourishment, we eat to excess. it's a disgrace. one bite or two of a burger is enough to sustain us for many hours. but we need a ribeye steak or double burger.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago

NPJPKelso 2 years ago
you are confusing abusers with those who need drugs.
there are drugs keeping people alive- some who are amongst the most influential in the world. because of what has gone on, the building blocks of these medicines won't be available.
and about keeping a spider: you say 'already keeping a spider.' you make the choice to get the spider initially. that is out of place, but why not minimize by providing a cricket, something that will die instantly and not feel pain?
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
@EdudLufetips Most of the population abuses drugs. Viagra, midol, advil, aleve, cough syrup. We don't need these, I'm living proof...except for the midol part...but even then, girls dont need it. I'm not saying medicine is useless, but dependence has grown...horrifyingly. The thing with keeping any animal, except cats and dogs, is that they are wild. Very few animals are truly domesticated. I believe it to be the owners responsibility to recreate the animals natural habitat as best as possible.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
i think people exaggerate drug abuse. even something so common, easily obtainable, and legal, such as alcohol: there are about 5 million americans abusing alcohol (as per the FDA), but over 300 million americans. that's less than 2%... most of the population doesn't abuse drugs.
my point wasn't about how drugs should be used, but that they have become necessary. people say 'people lived without medicine once.' yes, but died at the age of 30. my point was that this progress stops w deforestation
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
@EdudLufetips Eh, I'll give on the exaggeration, but even something like alcohol isnt needed, we have a lot of luxuries and frivolities now a days, including this computer, but hey, that's mankind and its big brain. Medicine in my mind shouldn't be used unless its life altering or threatening. Someone with a disability or disease than can be helped by medicine, sure go for it. Got the sniffles? deal with it. Thats my take.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
while alcohol isn't a medicine, its definitely a drug, i was just using it to point to the fact that veryfew people abuse drugs- and alcohol is the most abuseable.
it is mainly about diseases, not sniffles. i tore 2 ligaments in my knee and the pain was to the point where i considered suicide to escape it. pain meds during the healing process saved me. also look @ cancer, heart disease, diabetes, etc. these plague a huge portion of the population. these are the drugs we'd be without.
EdudLufetips 2 years ago
@EdudLufetips I see your point, and I'll give you that. That's the use of drugs I abdicate, not headaches, sniffles, sore muscles, sprains, cuts and the like...we have weakened as a species. I'm not saying medicine is bad, just used when it really doesnt need to be. Cancer and the such like your case are all VERY legit reasons. We have the technology to cure/help those conditions, so we should use it. For other things, our bodies are the best medicine, as well as a good diet and rest.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
@EdudLufetips that means a baby mouse one day SHOULD be incorporated, as well as a whole variety of food, not just crickets.
NPJPKelso 2 years ago
The earth is indeed resilient, and I believe as long as it's tectonically active, we have a chance. However there are people who are out there who frankly dont care...poaching and deforestation will continue unless a serious effort into stopping it takes place.

Kudos to the spider on this one. I would rather have a creepy, huge spider roam my house than disgusting fuzz ball rats that piss and shit all over everything and causes major amounts of house damage.

I don't know. I think I would rather have the rat which I can trap. With the spider, I would constantly have to worry about my cat finding it and getting bite and dieing.

no the tarantula would kill a brown rat basing on its breed goliath bird eating would win but a red kneed wouldnt
ritljo 2 years ago
i would like to say, that never in a million years will a bird eating spider or others similar spiders try and attack a male brown rat.
a mouse is one thing, but i actually saw a brown rat give a jack russel dog a beating near where i live, so a spider, i dont think so
Galacticmaster 2 years ago
Well this depends. In a cage a brown rat will not win against a pitbull, but if it was outside of a cage it'd probably run. As for the spider, this depends, if it got a good shot on the brown rat it might have a chance but i'd probably bet my money on the brown rat.
