  • He only three years older than me!!

  • I might be like him in ten years

  • totally my inspiration. :)

    BAH! AMAZZIIINNGGG>

  • класс

  • i love this song and julian bliss is amazing!!! the best clarinetest in world if you ask me!

  • he is such a great clarinetist. very inspiring

  • He's comming to my school for a concert and a workshop

  • @TheJaztak

    LUCKY!!!!!!

  • Julian Bliss is my role model. I wish I had the time to practice 3 hours a day...

  • i remember when i saw him perform the brahms f minor sonata when we were at IU at the same time. he was like 11 or something. it was insane how big his sound was. you have no idea...

also remember playing something in orchestra with him. don't remember what it was tho...

i think he was just born amazing. other people just need to come to terms with it and deal. :D

  • he is so funny whe he move ahahaah like idiot ROBOT

  • @skarlatospanagiotis wow i'm surprised you didn't say the SAME thing AGAIN on the 2nd movement. Did you think more people would like your comment if you wrote it twice? Cause i don't see likes on any of them.

  • @lavender1789 i dont want to know what you like or not thanks

  • Superr

  • Wonderful post! I must admit, I have never heard this played so fast, but I LIKE it! There is an energy to it that is very pleasing. The melancholy passage at ~3 min I feel has more soul when played slower, but who cares? This is simply a hugely gifted young man. Well done, sir!!

  • @gilbert20 Martin Frost

  • I don't like the solo players always play that fast, it's mostly showing off and robs the soul of the piece

  • Comment removed

  • He is amazing. Im learning this piece right now with my teacher. I wish I can play this good by the time I'm 17! I'm 13 now

  • A spectacular performance from both the soloist and the orchestra. Easily my favourite recording of this movement on YouTube. He plays the low baset notes so well!

I only wish I could play this well!

  • Oh geez... circular breathing at 4:40

  • @nickr753 My god! So it is!

I SO wish I could do that into my clarinet. I can do it into a straw… but it must take so much skill for him to do it so smoothly into his instrument. Amazing!

  • @nickr753 Thanks, I would have missed that!

  • @nickr753

almost didn't see it even knowing where it was... a very good use of a modern technique in a classical piece

  • I just met him today.! it was cool cuz i play the clarinet too. but he is a Awesome!

plus i LOVE his accent. :)

  • @aidantharappel

lol who said being chased by lions?

  • I get to meet him on the 21st! I feel soooo lucky!!

  • Is it just me, or is the clarinet he's playing on about a foot too long? I've never seen anything like it - what kind of clarinet is that?

  • @applejax26 It's a basset clarinet. Basically the same, but with more low range.

  • how does he play that good I'm JEALOUS

  • His fingers move really beautifully on that clarinet. And he looks like he's having lots of fun!

Those are gorgeous low notes - Mozart really knew what clarinets could do.

  • terrific performance! i can never play that well ;P but i do think he's rushing a bit

  • Eahhhh i wish he could give me lessons!!!! >:D His hands move like waves!!!

  • Eahhhh i wish he could give me lessons!!!! >:D

  • I just met Julian! He's amazing! Such incredible talent and he's so humble.

  • @esther3434 dont think about it ! feel the music and think about the note ! no the fingering :) think of the sound of the note ! and just flow and play ! let it come to you !

  • @esther3434: It takes lots of practice. If you struggle with fast stuff, you have to slow it down to the tempo where you can play it perfectly. Once you find that tempo, you have to repeat it over and over until you feel confident to go faster. If you keep doing that, you will do fine. Also, dont ignore any mistakes, because if you do, you will be practicing the wrong thing, and that habit is hard to break. Once you have accomplished all of that, you should be able to play it fairly well.

  • Jealous

    "--

  • It's magnific! pretty good job. One of my favorite link on youtube with the french clarinet quartet anches hantees. there are excelent musicians

  • Plays like pro.

  • He is amazing but it is still quite amusing to watch. Great performance especially as he was only 17 at the time :)

  • soo damn fast..L2 USE A METROnome :)

  • Julian came and talked to my music class at my school. Not only was he an amazing player, he was actually a nice guy. You've got my full support. Also, if your reading this, the Youtube videos are not that bad!

  • im seeing him live in person in like 3 days for a workshop

  • woa dat clarinet is sweet :P

  • He looks retarded

  • @bardometal12 He doesn't...and since when do looks matter when performing on an instrument?

  • Sounds wonderful, though the tempo is a little fast to be enjoyable at parts. But let's be realistic now: he's seventeen, and this is exceptional playing.

And KOOLCHICK922 great, maybe you can play it, but not with the same skill, accuracy, technique, and tone.

  • It's too fast for me. I can't feel Mozart's age with this music.

  • Ok, sorry.

Now I've heard 2 people play it up an octave. The first was on a cassette tape of a french clarinetist (I think he was french) more than 25 years ago.

The other time (2 minutes ago) was "Concierto de Mozart para Clarinete y Orquesta. Rondo" on the youtube page of "pepeviciana"

  • Of all of the times that I've heard this piece of music I've only heard 1 person play the part between 6:57-7:01 an octave higher than this guy. I've heard Benny Goodman do this song with this section at this octave, I've heard Richard Stoltsman do this song with this section at this octave. I've heard Julian Bliss do this song with this section at this octave. I've heard only 1 person ever do it an octave higher. Unfortunately I can't think of that person's name right now.

    Damn!!!

  • Mozart-the way it should be

  • @clarinetplayer4ever Thanks! :) He's so amazing!

  • ROSEWOOOOOOOOOOD

  • I agree with other posts, incredible technique, way too fast.

The phrasing is great, however the melodic passages are so rushed, Mozart would cringe.

  • classic - on the best instruments...

  • Lolz, I met him irl my band class took a field trip to a high school where he was playing.

  • First off, anyone who is like "awhh yeahh im just so f*cking good at this concerto, i could sight read it upside down whilst being simultaneously chased by lions."..ect

    SHUT UP.

Secondly, anyone who is criticizing Julian Bliss....Until you have performed for the Queen, toured the world and Performed with the most amazing orchestras in the world, you are not entitled to do so.

    The man is gifted.

As for the accusations about him being gay?

That is one of the funniest things Ive heard in my life.

  • YEAHHH

  • @aidantharappel He just came to my school today to do a clinic for my school's Band. He's a really cool guy, so these people don't know what they're talking about

  • some of those runs on the last page are hard on Bb... if only it had the low C key so I wouldn't have to do that really fast break jumping thing :P Sucks this is my district band tryout piece for this year while Adagio e Tarentella and Concertino are the coming years and I can pretty much sight read them....

  • Great job Julian.

  • He was 17 years old at the time. Now, I see some folks bitching about Bliss being out of tune or being gay or whatever, but really, I guarantee you that you weren't half as good as he when you were 17 years old. So stop being so immature. If you don't like his sound, then why even bother to watch him? If you don't like Bliss's playing when he was 17 years old, just ignore him then. No need to act like a bunch of jealous scums.

  • YEAHHHHHH dude

  • god i cant believe the guy is out of tune; get it off;

  • what kind of barrel is he using?

  • Who gives a shit

  • @turbacamp Um, me obviously, because I like to know how I could be better, douche.

  • @numunugurl funny my friends call me that a lot... yeah you should buy the barrel, that's what's going to make you good!

  • well this piece isnt exactly that hard i mean Solo de concours is a little tougher so its nothing to brag about. But he did play it REALLY well tho.

  • @anujgoalie he did play solo de concours when he was like 12. Nevermind if that's what you were reffering to.

  • @anujgoalie Yeah, thats what I was thinking becasue I'm in 8th grade and I can play this..

  • i have a question..how does one tongue fast?

  • Do this:

An accent in the first figure of a set (8, 16, etc.) then the others just rebound from the first. TAda, TAdada, TAdadada, etc. You should make a REASONABLE effort to play fast.

  • thx! :) im already getting better =]

  • @clarinetato You're clearly either an amateur who doesn't know what he/she is talking about, an idiot, or you're just jealous that you can't do this. The energy in runs doesn't come from speed; it comes from the tension produced by rhythmic accuracy. His runs in this tempo are perfect and if you like them faster then that's your interpretation, not his. If you've played for the Royal Family and as a soloist with the world's major orchestras, then feel free to criticize. Otherwise, shut up.

  • @vslflute92 I love how people just seem to improve their narcissic skills immediately when talking in the safety of the anonimity that the internet brings.

Re-read, vslflute92, I wasn't criticising Bliss' performance (I even have him as a facebook friend haha) but I was talking to anujgoalie.

Hope you have the integrity required to recognise yourself wrong. Modesty apart, I'm not an amateur and surely know what I'm talking about. Try it yourself!

  • @clarinetato Well, don't I feel silly xD. I apologize for the misunderstanding on my part. It just irritates me to no end when people deem themselves qualified to criticize professionals, especially prodigies like Bliss . Since your comment was on under "top comments" I mistakenly took it out of context.

  • @vslflute92 les non-dupes errent. I hate haters too. Hugs

  • @clarinetato I would love to hear you play it as well as him!!! Ha, Criticizing an accent?? Grow up... When you play for the Queen of England, let me know, and I would love to hear about how much better you are at playing this...

  • Comment removed

  • @mclion3 What do u mean?

  • Comment removed

  • @anujgoalie it was my foult. sorry

  • He is very accomplished at circular breathing. Its impossible to tell the difference between his regular support and his circular support.

  • I dream of being as good as he. This just makes me what to practice more! someday i will play as good if not better.

  • Lets Duet some time lol.. AWEsOME Job!!!

  • this is alright. i played this about two years ago by memory for my church. pretty much sounds like it without my fingers slamming on some notes...

  • @osh0011 You should post a video of that, or maybe I could type your name into Youtube and find a video of you playing a solo for the Queen, by memory, without slamming your fingers on some notes. I'll keep my eye out for it. Rock on Julian.

  • @bigmanthunder i'll keep you posted ;]

  • @bigmanthunder but in the mean time i'll be in the San Diego Marine Corps Band. by memory isn't all hard. its only a grade 4 piece. so let me know when you play anything of that level.

  • @osh0011 Hey man I'm looking forward to it. But I guess you'll be too busy playing with the band to record anything and post it, sorry to burst any bubbles, but I'm not going to hold my breath:) Cheerio,

    Bigman

  • @bigmanthunder yeah..i'll be doing from 300 to 400 performances a year. I'll have all my school paid for and i'll have a life. you should look into getting one as well.

    Cheerio.

    Oscar

  • omg he does everything by memory!!!

  • its finger memory..it comes from playing the piece OVER AND OVER again xD

  • Fabulous, keep up the good work!

  • (speechless)

  • he owns my face at this song and i've been playing for years. lol

  • Lmao same here.

  • Why, can you do better?

  • i can play it with style, definitely

  • Muy bueno!

  • absolutely incredible. I wish I had a clarinet like his though

  • WELL DONE!

  • WTF 17?!

What a bitch, I'm turning 17 next year and he sounds so incredible. Maybe I'd be this good if I had a basset, yeah that's my excuse. :P

    Amazing tone especially up top.

  • holy crap

    this is insane.

    he's amazing

  • Last year we did this in orchestra. but it was my Friend on clarinet and me on bass clarinet since we couldn't find a Basset Horn. This sounds way better thatn us though

  • I'm 17 and I'm not anywhere near this guy. He's AMAZING! Love his tone. I should practice more lol

  • How have I never heard of this guy before!?

    He's a freak of nature!

  • i just wanna say, that the original score for this one didn't have any phrasing markings. so for those of you that are bitching because he is playing it differently than the way you played it, that is because you played a different arrangement than he played. there are several. and the only differences in the arrangements is the phrasing. i looked at three different arrangements when i played this with my lessons teacher. fidning the one that i liked the most.

  • @dmb9028 Lucky you looked at more than one before setting on it. I've been on the same arrangement for several years and I have to play all the tutti parts aswell as the solo sections, while my friend has one with just the solo sections. I'll probably crawl out of my exam.

  • too fast!!!

but beautiful tone, great sense of style and tonguing

  • all i can say is awsome. puts me too shame

  • This takes so many hours of practice and natural talent. I am a 16 year old clarinet player and i wish i could be anywhere near this good at clarinet. I better start practicing those runs i guess :P

  • i like his phrasing, nice. dynamics could be exaggerated a bit more.

  • I don't think it is necessary to compare one performer against another. Julian is very talented and I am not sure why a person thinks he is not showing any emotion. This is not a competition. I am another person who prefers to enjoy the music. Whether or not a person moves to the music while performing doesn't need commentary unless it is distracting in a big way to the performance. (This is one reason why Glenn Gould retired early from the concert stage and did studio recording).

  • Well stated. One listens with one's ears, not with one's eyes.

  • Comment removed

  • I think he's really good but, Sharon Kams is better at it.....

  • good lord, how does he tongue like that? i can never do that lol

  • i dont think he tounges i think me slurs most of it and tounges only at the beginnings of the notes

  • He's tonguing, it's just cleverly disguised. Although the song calls for actual staccatos, some people like to play a more smooth staccato.

  • fun song to play, i had fun playing around with all the runs :D cept my tongue got all slow over the summer haha that sounded sexually. 17? he has wonderful tone

  • I'm glad I can enjoy the music without the need to carp and criticize. Why do some people have to piss all over everything? Jesus.

  • he probably doesn't even notice he's doing that. just let him feel the music.

  • believe me, it helps to move when your playing a solo

  • everyone moves for a different reason....sometimes to keep beat, or u know playing musically etc. but yea u r totally rite it seriously does help alot

  • malaysian chinese lah?

  • The normal tempo is 76-80. This is quite too fast..

  • IMHO slightly too fast - and this makes some of the phrases sound unclear and rushed.

  • What an honor to play for her majesty!

  • indeed

  • a bit fast, but very good.

  • i will be better than all these people

  • It's a wee bit fast for my liking and some bits are wrongly articulated (Ie. tongued when meant to be slurred and vice versa)

  • Very Good ,

  • I think he has a really good sound and techinque. And his expression is very good

  • I thing the author MUST remove the DIRTIEST comments ever read for an artist!!! At last this not a football game.

  • I also move around a lot when I play my clarinet, when I am improvising etc.

  • I play clarinet, and I don't know about anybody else but dancing around the place as he's doing doesn't help me concentrate on the playing, I need to be sitting down ideally. Suppose it's all in the technique that produces your ideal sound.

  • Some people can play beautifully sitting down still, and some people can't. It's just the way they express their sound

  • his dynamics aren't that fantastic in some parts, but I like the technique, it's awesome.

  • I think he's really mostly focusing on his beathing you know?

  • and you should suck my balls, his dynamic were always great, like everithing was perfect except one note that "screamed" 0-20 = 19,9999999999999999999999995

  • agreed.

  • very nice.. great tone

  • it's a basset idiot

  • fuck , mate, you are one funny dude!!!!!! hahahahahahaha...

  • if u think its gay then y r u watchin it?

  • how bout this...try playing one then comment again after you've gotten so frustrated cuz ur an idiot that you've shoved it up ur ass!!

  • how is the clarinet gay?

last time i checked instruments dont have sexual orientations....

    dont be such a prick.

  • Exactly!!!!

It's like saying the trumpet is straight, but that would make it gay for girls, but no, girls get all the freedom. The YTSO took 2 male clarinetists and 2 female clarinetists. The 2 guys didn't appear to act "gay" to me!

  • when did you last check?

  • haha

    you are SO funny.

  • I loathe the way he moves, intensely. It's so staged.

  • yeah, its kind of like he's bobbing up and down in water!

  • his moving is nowhere near as distracting as sabine meyer though. but some clarinetists can't control how their body moves, it's just their expression of the music. i know because i've been told to move less when playing, but i literally have to think and work to stop moving and it distracts myself from the music i'm playing.

  • i actually love the way sabine moves. i guess i'm just weird

  • wow, that is a NICE basset clarinet!

  • he is a genius

  • haha sounds awesome, but he looks....... haha

  • 1:47 - that bassoonist is really enjoying the flute solo.

  • lol, she is indeed.

btw, is that a wooden flute?

  • man i wish i could play that good

im using one of my mothers friends old c-net, and i have a hard time w/ my concer b-flat

and pads are always falling off...

  • ...in the Last Days knowledge shall increase.-- Daniel 12:4. A 17 year old kid, Julian Bliss, performs one of Mozart's hardest pieces [the last movement of his Clarinet Concerto] all with no sheet music in front of him. Unbelievable right? I don't know whether to call it child labor or early childhood education.

  • hahahahahahahahaha yes julian.i know this boy
