@skarlatospanagiotis wow i'm surprised you didn't say the SAME thing AGAIN on the 2nd movement. Did you think more people would like your comment if you wrote it twice? Cause i don't see likes on any of them.
Wonderful post! I must admit, I have never heard this played so fast, but I LIKE it! There is an energy to it that is very pleasing. The melancholy passage at ~3 min I feel has more soul when played slower, but who cares? This is simply a hugely gifted young man. Well done, sir!!
A spectacular performance from both the soloist and the orchestra. Easily my favourite recording of this movement on YouTube. He plays the low baset notes so well!
I SO wish I could do that into my clarinet. I can do it into a straw… but it must take so much skill for him to do it so smoothly into his instrument. Amazing!
@esther3434 dont think about it ! feel the music and think about the note ! no the fingering :) think of the sound of the note ! and just flow and play ! let it come to you !
@esther3434: It takes lots of practice. If you struggle with fast stuff, you have to slow it down to the tempo where you can play it perfectly. Once you find that tempo, you have to repeat it over and over until you feel confident to go faster. If you keep doing that, you will do fine. Also, dont ignore any mistakes, because if you do, you will be practicing the wrong thing, and that habit is hard to break. Once you have accomplished all of that, you should be able to play it fairly well.
Julian came and talked to my music class at my school. Not only was he an amazing player, he was actually a nice guy. You've got my full support. Also, if your reading this, the Youtube videos are not that bad!
Sounds wonderful, though the tempo is a little fast to be enjoyable at parts. But let's be realistic now: he's seventeen, and this is exceptional playing.
And KOOLCHICK922 great, maybe you can play it, but not with the same skill, accuracy, technique, and tone.
Now I've heard 2 people play it up an octave. The first was on a cassette tape of a french clarinetist (I think he was french) more than 25 years ago.
The other time (2 minutes ago) was "Concierto de Mozart para Clarinete y Orquesta. Rondo" on the youtube page of "pepeviciana"
Of all of the times that I've heard this piece of music I've only heard 1 person play the part between 6:57-7:01 an octave higher than this guy. I've heard Benny Goodman do this song with this section at this octave, I've heard Richard Stoltsman do this song with this section at this octave. I've heard Julian Bliss do this song with this section at this octave. I've heard only 1 person ever do it an octave higher. Unfortunately I can't think of that person's name right now.
First off, anyone who is like "awhh yeahh im just so f*cking good at this concerto, i could sight read it upside down whilst being simultaneously chased by lions."..ect
SHUT UP.
Secondly, anyone who is criticizing Julian Bliss....Until you have performed for the Queen, toured the world and Performed with the most amazing orchestras in the world, you are not entitled to do so.
The man is gifted.
As for the accusations about him being gay?
That is one of the funniest things Ive heard in my life.
@aidantharappel He just came to my school today to do a clinic for my school's Band. He's a really cool guy, so these people don't know what they're talking about
some of those runs on the last page are hard on Bb... if only it had the low C key so I wouldn't have to do that really fast break jumping thing :P Sucks this is my district band tryout piece for this year while Adagio e Tarentella and Concertino are the coming years and I can pretty much sight read them....
He was 17 years old at the time. Now, I see some folks bitching about Bliss being out of tune or being gay or whatever, but really, I guarantee you that you weren't half as good as he when you were 17 years old. So stop being so immature. If you don't like his sound, then why even bother to watch him? If you don't like Bliss's playing when he was 17 years old, just ignore him then. No need to act like a bunch of jealous scums.
An accent in the first figure of a set (8, 16, etc.) then the others just rebound from the first. TAda, TAdada, TAdadada, etc. You should make a REASONABLE effort to play fast.
@clarinetato You're clearly either an amateur who doesn't know what he/she is talking about, an idiot, or you're just jealous that you can't do this. The energy in runs doesn't come from speed; it comes from the tension produced by rhythmic accuracy. His runs in this tempo are perfect and if you like them faster then that's your interpretation, not his. If you've played for the Royal Family and as a soloist with the world's major orchestras, then feel free to criticize. Otherwise, shut up.
@vslflute92 I love how people just seem to improve their narcissic skills immediately when talking in the safety of the anonimity that the internet brings.
Re-read, vslflute92, I wasn't criticising Bliss' performance (I even have him as a facebook friend haha) but I was talking to anujgoalie.
Hope you have the integrity required to recognise yourself wrong. Modesty apart, I'm not an amateur and surely know what I'm talking about. Try it yourself!
@clarinetato Well, don't I feel silly xD. I apologize for the misunderstanding on my part. It just irritates me to no end when people deem themselves qualified to criticize professionals, especially prodigies like Bliss . Since your comment was on under "top comments" I mistakenly took it out of context.
@clarinetato I would love to hear you play it as well as him!!! Ha, Criticizing an accent?? Grow up... When you play for the Queen of England, let me know, and I would love to hear about how much better you are at playing this...
@osh0011 You should post a video of that, or maybe I could type your name into Youtube and find a video of you playing a solo for the Queen, by memory, without slamming your fingers on some notes. I'll keep my eye out for it. Rock on Julian.
@bigmanthunder but in the mean time i'll be in the San Diego Marine Corps Band. by memory isn't all hard. its only a grade 4 piece. so let me know when you play anything of that level.
@osh0011 Hey man I'm looking forward to it. But I guess you'll be too busy playing with the band to record anything and post it, sorry to burst any bubbles, but I'm not going to hold my breath:) Cheerio,
@bigmanthunder yeah..i'll be doing from 300 to 400 performances a year. I'll have all my school paid for and i'll have a life. you should look into getting one as well.
Last year we did this in orchestra. but it was my Friend on clarinet and me on bass clarinet since we couldn't find a Basset Horn. This sounds way better thatn us though
i just wanna say, that the original score for this one didn't have any phrasing markings. so for those of you that are bitching because he is playing it differently than the way you played it, that is because you played a different arrangement than he played. there are several. and the only differences in the arrangements is the phrasing. i looked at three different arrangements when i played this with my lessons teacher. fidning the one that i liked the most.

I don't think it is necessary to compare one performer against another. Julian is very talented and I am not sure why a person thinks he is not showing any emotion. This is not a competition. I am another person who prefers to enjoy the music. Whether or not a person moves to the music while performing doesn't need commentary unless it is distracting in a big way to the performance. (This is one reason why Glenn Gould retired early from the concert stage and did studio recording).
fun song to play, i had fun playing around with all the runs :D cept my tongue got all slow over the summer haha that sounded sexually. 17? he has wonderful tone
everyone moves for a different reason....sometimes to keep beat, or u know playing musically etc. but yea u r totally rite it seriously does help alot
I play clarinet, and I don't know about anybody else but dancing around the place as he's doing doesn't help me concentrate on the playing, I need to be sitting down ideally. Suppose it's all in the technique that produces your ideal sound.
and you should suck my balls, his dynamic were always great, like everithing was perfect except one note that "screamed" 0-20 = 19,9999999999999999999999995
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Good question. Although the clarinet is gay, it still has the ability to sound well when played correctly (the reason I'm watching it), as done here. But its still gay, even my viewing it can't neutralize it's gayness.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh, I have already played one, and have displayed some degree of mastery on it, but no where near as much as Julian is showing here though. But as a former clarinetist, I have the right to say that the clarinet is gay. That's just my opinion. But it is a fact that you are gay.
It's like saying the trumpet is straight, but that would make it gay for girls, but no, girls get all the freedom. The YTSO took 2 male clarinetists and 2 female clarinetists. The 2 guys didn't appear to act "gay" to me!
his moving is nowhere near as distracting as sabine meyer though. but some clarinetists can't control how their body moves, it's just their expression of the music. i know because i've been told to move less when playing, but i literally have to think and work to stop moving and it distracts myself from the music i'm playing.
...in the Last Days knowledge shall increase.-- Daniel 12:4. A 17 year old kid, Julian Bliss, performs one of Mozart's hardest pieces [the last movement of his Clarinet Concerto] all with no sheet music in front of him. Unbelievable right? I don't know whether to call it child labor or early childhood education.

I'm glad I can enjoy the music without the need to carp and criticize. Why do some people have to piss all over everything? Jesus.

why does he keep moving ah? just stand there lah...
melshennn 2 years ago
he probably doesn't even notice he's doing that. just let him feel the music.
THAToGUITARoGUY 2 years ago 23
believe me, it helps to move when your playing a solo
saxomaphone2011 2 years ago 3
everyone moves for a different reason....sometimes to keep beat, or u know playing musically etc. but yea u r totally rite it seriously does help alot

The normal tempo is 76-80. This is quite too fast..
randomisnotgood 2 years ago 2
IMHO slightly too fast - and this makes some of the phrases sound unclear and rushed.

What an honor to play for her majesty!

i will be better than all these people
amerigo200877995 2 years ago
It's a wee bit fast for my liking and some bits are wrongly articulated (Ie. tongued when meant to be slurred and vice versa)

I also move around a lot when I play my clarinet, when I am improvising etc.
IrennMo 2 years ago
I play clarinet, and I don't know about anybody else but dancing around the place as he's doing doesn't help me concentrate on the playing, I need to be sitting down ideally. Suppose it's all in the technique that produces your ideal sound.
Poshstanley 2 years ago
Some people can play beautifully sitting down still, and some people can't. It's just the way they express their sound
Tech502 2 years ago 2
his dynamics aren't that fantastic in some parts, but I like the technique, it's awesome.
bagatelle131 2 years ago
I think he's really mostly focusing on his beathing you know?
Chenteboi64 2 years ago
and you should suck my balls, his dynamic were always great, like everithing was perfect except one note that "screamed" 0-20 = 19,9999999999999999999999995

Good question. Although the clarinet is gay, it still has the ability to sound well when played correctly (the reason I'm watching it), as done here. But its still gay, even my viewing it can't neutralize it's gayness.
dvnstvn9 2 years ago
how bout this...try playing one then comment again after you've gotten so frustrated cuz ur an idiot that you've shoved it up ur ass!!

Oh, I have already played one, and have displayed some degree of mastery on it, but no where near as much as Julian is showing here though. But as a former clarinetist, I have the right to say that the clarinet is gay. That's just my opinion. But it is a fact that you are gay.
dvnstvn9 2 years ago
how is the clarinet gay?
last time i checked instruments dont have sexual orientations....
dont be such a prick.
nickysaxpiccolo 2 years ago 54
Exactly!!!!
It's like saying the trumpet is straight, but that would make it gay for girls, but no, girls get all the freedom. The YTSO took 2 male clarinetists and 2 female clarinetists. The 2 guys didn't appear to act "gay" to me!

I also play clarinet, and I also think its gay. However, I am not gay.

I loathe the way he moves, intensely. It's so staged.
Gandalfgrayhame 2 years ago
yeah, its kind of like he's bobbing up and down in water!
Flutenatic 2 years ago 2
his moving is nowhere near as distracting as sabine meyer though. but some clarinetists can't control how their body moves, it's just their expression of the music. i know because i've been told to move less when playing, but i literally have to think and work to stop moving and it distracts myself from the music i'm playing.
justgarrettlove 2 years ago
i actually love the way sabine moves. i guess i'm just weird

...in the Last Days knowledge shall increase.-- Daniel 12:4. A 17 year old kid, Julian Bliss, performs one of Mozart's hardest pieces [the last movement of his Clarinet Concerto] all with no sheet music in front of him. Unbelievable right? I don't know whether to call it child labor or early childhood education.

algien que able en español o que lo entienda me puede explicar como en 8 años puede tocar asi como el vidio que ai por ai de el.soy clarinetista español y estoi flipando saludos
vicenttoba 3 years ago
