@almostunimportant Sadly the original Magnum P.I. Helicopter used in the filming crashed a few years ago. The story I always heard though, was that before filming the pilot, the casting crew had taken a ride around the island in the chopper, loved the idea and used it in the show. It was never repainted though, so it became something of an icon.
