i would say ending it means no contact...its pretty much the only way if theres still any feelings there for either one of you..plus out of respect to your significant other and their own personal well being..this type of thing is super hard on everyone involved. if its possible to work at the same place without being in contact - ok i guess..otherwise one of you needs to go.
I now exactly what you mean he still wants to be friends but doesnt want to have physical contact, its impossible. The pain is just horrible and it takes a little part of you away forever, you cant be friends.
