  • Who knew that if you chop somethings head off it would die. In all of this time nobody every tried that but when a woman just comes along and she decides to do it the dudes were probably just scratching their heads

  • and a sword to the face

  • great eowyn and theoden

  • I apologize for this comment, but...

I USED TO BE A WITCH KING , THEN I TOOK A DAGGER TO THE KNEE!

  • theoden could dodge the witch-king's attack but he stayed.....

  • @SailorVenus223 it's also explained in the book. Human's , or at least common humans, cannot face the nazgul without losing to despair. Actually, in the book, theoden does not lose his spirit, but fails to control his horse, and fall under it on the ground, dying from the wounds of being crushed by an armored horse.

  • loot?

  • I love Theoden. I tally do. But every time I see :11 I cannot help but think that he thinks "aw fuck!"

  • why didnt they make a funeral for hi mhe just disappears

  • It's the Witch King's own fault. Who told to be so freaking cocky.

He must be related to Gordon Ramsay :D

  • watch background from 1:05 there is a guy with an ak47 in between them.

thumbs up if you see him :D

  • both merry and eowyn deserve credit...eowyn, aragorn said that he can never love her and merry, because he wasnt allowed to fight for his friends...but then again eowyn did kill a mummakil...if only we had more women warriors

  • At 1:44 did anyone else also think that it looks like she is resting on a tractor wheel?

  • Fellbeast: OMNOMNOMNOM!!!

  • did the fell beast bite the king or the horse only? the horse crushed his body?

  • Comment removed

  • Now that is a worthy ruler!Instead of hiding and whining like Denetor did, Teoden choosed to die, but to do the right thing. He could have stayed in Rohan offended at Gondor for not aiding them againts Saruman.

  • @Aslara if Gondor aided against Saruman they wouldn't have had the strength left to battle Mordor

  • Theoden was like "In my next life i wan't to visit the ocean. . ."

  • @MrXeftilas No u

  • At first, I was like " Shes as good as dead anyway" but then after, I was like "......I better get back to the kitchen" and I'm a fucking man.

  • Witch-king was pictured as the ultimate badass from the first to the last movie, then he dies for a woman.

It just couldn't be more patetic.

  • @apfrezende i think that was the point intended that a awsome bad guy gets owned by a hobbit n a woman who cant cook

  • Theoden nd bernand hill are amazing :D

  • love it

  • @slitfire why did you stop it so soon? Im trying to find out what the song is when she is talking to theoden but I cant even refer to it..

  • the most horrible thing for a warrior is to be killed be a woman.

  • @billy51118 There's an elvish prophecy from the War of the First Age that Angmar won't fall by the hand of man. So he thinks himself invulnerable -- but the prophecy comes true, because he is confronted by a woman and a hobbit together on the battlefield, neither of whom is a man or even really belongs there.

  • @manthasagittarius Actually, its merry's blade and stab that breaks the spell of invulnerability the witch king has, thus allowing her th kill him. Merry did the work, she's just the tank xD

  • @Zurezule Yes, you have the sequence of events correct. It takes both of them, and it succeeds because neither one of them is a man in the conventional sense of "adult male human". So I'm not sure why your "actually" says much. You can quibble about what Angmar might have done had only Merry's blow fallen -- Tolkien says that the spell "knit his unseen sinews to his will." BTW, there's a nice article about this issue by Erik Tracy: "Who defeated the Witchking, Eowyn or Merry?"

  • I'M MELTING!! MELTING!! OH WHAT A WORLD, WHAT A WORLD!! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A GOOD LITTLE GIRL LIKE YOU COULD DESTROY MY BEATIFUL WICKEDNESS!!

  • I always backstab Theodon in Helms Deep Starcraft lol

  • obviously fake

  • ...and with that humiliating stab from "no-man", The Witch King, equal only to Gandalf the White, curled up into a tiny ball and hid beneath his cloak in shame for the rest of his days.

  • Haha lol all riders are running away, except eowyn, and she's a woman!!

  • i always cry when theoden dies, hes best character in lotr

  • WTS dented Witch King's helmet! Hahaha

Yeah, Eowyn's pretty kick ass. :)

  • this is bullshit one dagger in the back should not cripple him.... hes supposed to be a fucking beast

  • @Taypion Sneak attack FTW, shut your face.

  • @Taypion The dagger on the back crippled him because Merry is a Hobbit, not a Man - the dagger on his back doesn't mean anything, but the fact that the attack came from a Hobbit means. i think that in the book Merry was the one to kill him, not Éowyn. At least I think that's it. It's been a really long time since I read the books.

  • @avelarzhao I could be totally wrong because I've never read the book. But I think when he says 'no man can kill me' he just means that men are so weak, one couldn't possibly kill him. It's not an actual rule that it's impossible, he just looks down on them. But again I haven't really read the books, I've only read part of them so I really don't know. That's just the impression that I got.

  • I like how eowyn seems to be the only one that cares that the King of Rohan just died.

  • I actually found the fell beast kinda cool until I watched its headless body flopping around...

  • merry actually stabbed him with the mortal blow he has a legendary sword which was found in the barrows that has the power to defeat the riders. it was made to counter the attack on arnor from angmar (pre fellowship).

  • screw that stupid eowyn!

  • @Halafang Dude eat a burrito, and watch the movie 3242 more times ^^ kid

  • he didn't die -.-" watch the movie for like 200 more times and then post something, and i agree with you most one of the best scenes in the trilogy

  • so her name is noman?

  • 0:12 - The best I-am-going-to-die look EVER!

  • That whore is the gayest character in the entire movie next to smeag and frodo

  • @Beholder552 Are you really necessary?

  • Yeah; she acted like she accomplished something...all she did was get her arm broken and stab a guy who had already been sneak attacked...

I thought this clip had the part where Theoden said his last words...I was a bit disappointed.

  • good bye king thedoen

  • aww eowyn ruined the best set of armour in the LORT, except saurons armour that shits just crazy :)

  • lol @ the rampaging Mumakil in the background!

  • His body disintegrated till he was no more 2:12

  • I love how he sighs at 0:10.

  • i was so sad when he died king theoden is easily my favorite character in the hole trilogy.

  • One of the big mistakes in the movie was not explaining, or showing how Merry & Pippin got their blades. Im sure many people scratched their heads wondering how a Hobbit stuck the mighty Witch King in the shin with a butter knife and had it crying for mommy lol.

  • @Celly222 true but in the extended version of the fellowship it shows where marry and pippin get special elven knives

  • @Celly222 watch EE FOTR

  • @Celly222 in the movie aragorn gives them the blades. It was impossible to put that part in the movie since Tom Bombadil did not make it to the screen.

  • NOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!

  • wtf is with the sound? is it trying to sound like the witchking dying the entire time? omf!

  • "I am no man"

    MAGNIFICENT! :D

  • @ZeldaQueen64

I liked the imagery of this clip, but actually liked the wording of the cartoon better. Eowyn does not say, "I am no man", rather she declares herself as a women (it is different) & is not as scared as she appears in this clip b/c she is angry as hell that the Witchking is about to violate the remains of her kin. Both are good clips in there own way, but I don't like the wording of this one.

  • Cartoon?

  • the way the helm mask her face kind of reminds me of a wallace and grommit character....

  • hahaha

  • that woman looks like a haloween dressed retard with that helmet

  • son of rohan lol King of Rohan and whatever son

  • RIP THEODEN, SON OF ROHAN

  • You twats....Glorfindel's prediction was tthat no living HUMAN then would kill the WK, not that a woman would do it, just that no one alive would get him, GEDDIT?

  • @Itsafuckingusername No the prediction if you've actually read the SIlmarrilion or Lord of the Rings you will know was that now living MAN could kill him. Everyone knew that prediction and Nazgul THOUGHT that it meant that no living person could kill him and thus thought himself immortal. However the prophecy was very literal and the whole point is that Eowyn is a female and is thus able to slay the Witch King which is why she became a legend. Read the books and you'll see for yourself.

  • @valaurwen As a bit of trivia, Tolkien got the idea after he read Macbeth, in which it was predicted that "no man born of woman" could kill King Macbeth. Macbeth also believed this mean that he'd never be killed, but he was ultimately defeated by a man born of Cesarian section. Tolkein was disappointed by this since he thought that it would be that a woman would kill Macbeth. Hence, this bit.

Incidentally, that's also why he created the Ents (the moving forest in "Macbeth")

  • Very, very cool bit of info! I always love discovering something new behind the works and wonders of Tolkein and his world. Thanks a lot for that tid bit ;)

  • You're welcome!

I actually thought the exact same thing when I read it ("Cool! Just like 'Lord of the Rings'!") and wasn't quite sure how Cesarean worked around that. But yeah. ^_^

  • he kicked gandalf's ass, and was killed by a sneak attack. he's still badass

  • I'm still trying to figure out how sparky there considers Eowyn to be "boring".

  • "you can all see the elves don't stand a chance"

you gaybashing notwithstanding, the elves defended Middle Earth until men realized their destiny & were able to take over. The Elves were the preservers of ME- stand a chance? there is no competition.

  • the witchking killed the king =D! best movie villian ever

  • Actually he didn't, the fellbeast did.

  • well he was riding it, its like running over someone with a car, same concept

  • "the witchking killed the king! best movie villian ever"

Yea, until Eowyn & Merry made him their biotch about 5 min later! xD

  • he still beat her in a 1 on 1 fight. he was just taken out by a sneak attack.

  • lol- whatever it takes to justify your bias. xP

  • i no the witchking could of killed everyone!

  • @slitfire Gandalf could've taken him, in the book at any rate.

  • I am no man. *SCREAM*

    kick. ass.

  • u said it lol

  • They toned down the speeches because it looked ridiculous reading off this big speeches IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE. Just one of those things that looks better in a book than on film.

  • i would agree with that but i have to say they did have some good speeches in the movie

  • @slitfire Samwise's speech was a mighty fine one. You can tell when a speech is great when you change one or two names and words and it still applies.

  • @Philweasel You've gotta be kidding me, speeches in a book aren't half as epic when delivered by a fantastic actor in a movie.

  • @Dimensionaluk

You try making a speech while men with swords are attempting to stab you. You end up with the 'polite opponent' cliche, when bad guys are content to stand around while the heroes transform/die dramaticly/discuss the meaning of life/flirt/make enormous epic speeches.

  • @Philweasel Well obviously you won't find that in non-fictional stuff.

  • I just realized that Bernard Hill has supporting roles in the two highest grossing films of all time, and he dies a painful death in both. LOLLLL.

  • lol wow i never looked at it that way

  • well thats the point this is not reality so it doesnt matter

  • yeah this huge battle at gondor was epic!

  • I cried alot when he died, it was touching :/

  • well it was sad but it made it a good movie!

  • Yeah :)

  • he dies because witch kings a curse that no man can kill him but a women can

  • yeah i guess ur right

  • In books he is immortal but he still dies by Eowyn's hand! Seriously have you lot READ the books?! Yes they are tough but apparently a woman could and did kill him. This is how Tolkien wrote it that he would meet his doom by the hands of this woman @_@ Live with it!

  • im reading the books now so good!

  • Haha, yeah, and they butchered the dialogue in this scene.

I don't understand how anyone thought that replacing "No living man am I! You look upon a woman! Eowyn am I, Eomund's daughter! You stand between me and my lord and kin! Begone, if you be not deathless, for living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him!" with the stilted one-liner "I AM NO MAN!" was a good idea. Or- on that matter, half of the dialogue in the films.

  • Rofl! Well put! But it would look a lot like a Shakespearean act if they did it like that though. :P I love the dialogues in the books but I guess they needed to tone it down for the movies. There's a lot of things that have been changed or added even (for example frodo fighting with sam!) but overall PJ did a good job. :)

  • Of course it would come off as a shakespearean act- and I would have it no other way! They had the moving music for it- the amazing cast for it- (Ian McKellen?! Come on!)- and even the audience for it- but instead the reduced it to summer action-flick status -_-.

  • Haha I wouldn't mind it either - but not a lot of people are into it. It might have been a factor as to why LOTR was never as successful as HP for example. People like reading simple books that are easy to understand not a book (eg silmarillion) that will have you opening the dictionary every while and writing down names to remember everything. :P

  • That's true- but at the same time many literary critics- especially around the 70's- were close to accepting Lord of the Rings as an all time classic- maybe right up there with Shakespeare. I believe one said something along the lines of the movie completely stopping this process-

I'm worried that indeed Lord of the Rings will always be remembered as this movie series, and not a series of beautifully poetic books -_-.

  • When Tolkien wrote it I believed it was shunned by many as it was unexpected of him to write such a book. But Tolkien's world is full of songs and poems and yes it's true that the films do not reflect that and are more focused with the action. People are interested in war and action and romance not in a musical really. Those who have not read the books are missing out. :)

  • :D Glad someone around here agrees with me.

  • Ditto! ^^ My friends all like HP and it's quite sad that they don't see the genius behind LOTR and prefer a childish wand shaking book :P

I think the cartoon that was made in 90s (?) had the songs in it. Oo can't remember. Only saw parts of it.

  • Haha, yeah- there was a Hobbit cartoon intended for children that was a fun childhood pasttime for me, a Fellowship cartoon that Jackson's movies took a lot of influence from, and a Return of the King movie made by the writers/animators of the Hobbit cartoon. The Beatles were considering doing an adaptation- how amazing would that have been?

  • Really? Never knew they were Tolkien fans. Might have been a bit weird tho. :p

  • I think it probably would have made my childhood much much different-

    and better.

    Probably better.

  • Wy did Theoden had 2 dye he was the coolest it fuked up everithing ......

  • well sometimes when the coolest ppl die it makes a better movie if you no wht i mean

  • I agree gapper3. I've reflected on Tolkien's world and I do not understanding his vision of the Nazgul: they seem all bark and no bite. All portents, and no true power. And then there's this scene--pathetic.

  • yeah this movie has those unrealstic sceans but thats wht makes it a good movie!

  • I agree. This was fucking anticlimatic. Throughout the whole series the Nazgul come off as pompous blowhards. Aragorn waves them off with a goddam torch, they can't catch a bunch of silly hobbits, and now the Witch-king gets felled by some lucky chick.

  • yeah its so stupid frodo gets to mordor yeah right

  • yeah eowyn randomly defeats witch king...bullshit.

If Gandalf couldn't do it what makes them so great? Ummm....nothing. They both suck

  • i think the idea is that, in a magical way, he is resistant to men, maybe cos she is female the spell doesnt cover that sort of protection, she broke that spell.

  • it also has to do with that when merry stabs the king witch he stabs him with a daggar thats like really old and was made by the elves so it's magical and paralyzes him. so therefor it was more likely for eowyn to kill him. and it also has do to with her being a woman not a man

  • Oh yer i forgot about the dagger! :) still..epic scene

  • hell yeah

  • i thought when when he said "man", he meant human in general, you know? like mankind

  • maybe i suppose :)

  • yeah it was weid how that worked out makes know sense really!

  • Uuuh, he's immortal- but not quite invincible, just close to it. Elrond once said that his "death will not come by the hands of a man" or something along those lines- I have to re-read my lore. Meaning that a man cannot kill him simply because that's not the way it's going to happen. Basically, get a grasp for modern physics (or Kurt Vonnegut's) view of time- it's already happened, so it has to happen that way. In this case, will not and can not become the same thing.

  • @senthyril He did cuz he didn't die

  • Fuck that, i wish Eowyn got killed by the Witch King. And then Theoden gets Eaten by the fell beast.

  • yeah that would be different

  • film is shit in book he is immortal

  • yeah

  • I cry!! Oh my god, is so emotion part

  • yeah well if someone wanted to see this scean and they didnt want to watch the whole movie then they could look it up on youtube!

  • yeah i no wht u mean

  • why does slitfire hide his/her own comments

  • i dont no, i was not meaning to or anything! by the way im a guy just to let u no!

  • Great Dernhelm, a true rider of Rohan!!
