Most people of this generation have no idea what this interview means. They can not possibly respect or understand its significance. Edith Piaf interviewed by German television 17 years after WW2? Unbelievably beautiful and moving in its significance! Je t'aime Edith, toujours, ma belle! RIP!
J"adore le moment où elle dit : "ce ne sont pass eux qui se marrient, c''est moi", et plus loin : "je voudrais être morte". Ces mots sont très en avance sur ce qu'osait une femme à l'époque. Brava !
Just a strong great woman. Even if there was so much trouble in her life, she says that she wouldn't want to live antother life. That's strong. That's great :)

Q: If you had to live your life again, would you do things differently?
A: Exactly the same life.
Q: What do you say to people who make fun of your marriage?
A: I married, not you.
Q: What do you love most of all in the world?
A: Love, and my job.
Q: And what do you hate most of all?
A: Everything else.
Q: And what would you be if you didn't sing?
A: Dead.

I'm not a native German speaker, and I can't follow everything, but here is my best-I-can-do translation of most of the interview, from the German:
Q: What does a woman need most of all to be happy?
A: Love, and a fulifilling vocation.
Q: And to be a successful singer?
A: I don't know. I simply sing, and that's all.
Q: In your life, have you had more happiness or unahappiness?
A: It all balances out . . . I am always ten times happier and ten times unhappier than other people.
