@UntamedAdreniline automatics are normally quicker and more consistant at the dragstrip... its why you see big boy cars using glides and TH400s... hell i even converted my 97 SS to auto from being a 6 speed...
@TorqueMachine , yeah I had one of those too, with those mods, would've been about the same time , maybe a tad quicker , than the 383 TA. With a blower, it would've killed me in the Camaro.
@NaturalBornKillerC6 Yea i would know, their amazing machines. You gain so much with so little. They're a drivers race in the 1/4 mile, but from my experience the Ws6 pulls harder up top, especially from 15 mph roll on to 150+.
Do you still own the beast along with the camaro ss? :)
@NaturalBornKillerC6 Oh man, you lost a classic :/. Mines a 01 Red/blk WS6 T/A. Do you own a C6 Vette? Ive been looking at the C6vettes for the next car in the garage, how are those?
@TorqueMachine Check out my T/A on my channel, it's super clean and very low miles on it. By the way NaturalBornKillerC6, that Camaro looks sweet, the color is so nice.
@NaturalBornKillerC6 Is this track at a higher alt? Those old Trans Am's are way ahead of their time for power they still can put up a fight with a good driver against a lot of cars even now'a days...that and the Camaro's...but 12.6 with those mod I'd think they would run fast et...? My boy has a 99'Camaro with intake, flowmaster & DR's & he puts 13.0@109-110 given summer temp&etc...but the tracks elevation is low too.
@mjmcg You're right about the stock tires but need to add the part about driving around the 'bleach Box" to keep the tires out of the water.Tires with tread will always carry some water to the line.
@MrJohnwhat dude, that Trans Am had a built stroker motor, full free flow exhaust, cam, tune, slicks and skinnies and wasn't at full weight. It was also trailered in, as opposed to being driven to the track like the Camaro.
It always bugs the shit out of me to see guys in street cars doing burn outs at a track. News flash: there's enough hot tacky rubber laid down on the start area that you don't need to. If you do happen to, as unlikely as it may be, spin your tires, it ain't gonna happen long enough to matter. But if it makes them feel like John Force, then burn out to your hearts content.
@mjmcg it always bugs the shit outta me to see dumb ass comments on here by people who have no idea what the f*ck they're talking about. The cars both have drag radials, and those require a burnout, reguardless of track prep. As for the camaro speciffically, even with stock tires, a quick scrub burnout to slightly heat and clean the tires would be needed at the track. Get away from your computer and actually race , then make an informed comment.
@mjmcg Oh God you're so right... listen kid, I have time slips kickin around here older than you. I've probably put more miles on an alchol f/c a quarter mile at a time than you have miles on a road car. Don't talk to me about informed comments until your other nuts drops you little puke. You kids kill me, ya really do...always a laugh minute.
@mjmcg calm down grandpa, even on street tires I always get a MUCH better 60ft by doing a burnout. I know it doesn't make sense but it's probably due to getting some of the compound for other drivers slicks onto my tires. My tires pick up every single rock on the return road after a run. My best 60ft without a small burnout is 2.2 while my best is 1.93 with a burnout. Usually average high 1.9x.
It is absolutely a 383 stroker, derived from a LT1 based engine. Sorry for your doubt, but the owner himself gave me the information . I agree that an LS1 with headers and exhaust/tune is in the 12's, there's one here that has that and a converter and runs 11's. The LS1 is a totally different beast than the LT1, even stroked...
@NaturalBornKillerC6 Yes I am the one that owns the Trans Am my son got in the water and blowed the tires out !The next two passes were both 1190,s and 750,s and we went home!Wish U had stayed!
@performance325 yeah, I saw the faster passes. I knew that car had more in it. I love firebirds and can't wait to get another one myself. Maybe I'l see you at the track again sometime soon! Take care and have a great holiday!
The Camaro SS is a 6.2 liter, from the factory, with a mild cam , exhaust and tune only. The Trans Am is a 383 c.i. stroker motor, full exhaust, tune, race seats, and weight reduction. The LT1 was a good motor, but very weak compared to modern LS based engines, that's why they are no longer being produced.
@NaturalBornKillerC6 It's mainly because the LT1 was produced in 1992, the current 6.2 was produced in 2007 or 2008, that's 15 to 16 years of technology on its side.
@Quatermain98526 yes u are right but put that same engine in that ta and watch it beat the camaro by at least .5 due to the lighter weight i know because i have a 91 z28 wjth the ls3 and it literally blows the doors off the camaro the srt8s and the new 5.o only weighs 3200lbs
@91battlered If you are willing to do engine swaps or modifications, you can make any car faster than any car out there. So the only proper way to compare cars is stock vs stock. And a stock 2010 Camaro will defeat a stock '02 LS1.
And the 5.0 Mustang GT weighs around 3,500 to 3,600 lbs. Still, much lighter than the Camaro at 3,900 and the SRT8 at 4,200.
10 bucks says the camaro was custom built, and the trans am was a stock enginem, cause i can almost promis you the trans am would of one usally the newer camaros are 4.7 L stock engine a stock trans am is 5.7 L and the guy in the trans am didn't even burn out for traction on the run out. i say they need to race a real lt1 350 poniac trans am
@XXlordbillyXX there is not a 2010+ camaro with a 4.7L production stock engine.. the production stock v6 is 3.6L and the V8 is 6.2L the one in this video is the V8.. if you need more proof go to chevrolet . com and find out for yourself..

Well, if you stop the video @1:24 you see that the camaro posted 12.33@114mph. The T/A went 12.66@111.
If that's not good enough, look above the camaro's posted time, at the top is "W" lit up........ that pretty much sums it up....
Good race though
