I heard there are two versions of the Hobgoblin, a Dark and a Ruby. AlbynoRyno is a big fan of the Ruby and I've been looking for it for a while - I heard the "Dark" is not as good.
@Tianjoja I really enjoyed this one... which is the ruby. And I haven't actually heard of a "Dark", interesting though, I will have to look out for it. Thanks, :)
@MrsRealAleGuide yeah... i heard someone say that enjoyed the ruby version of this better but myself wasn't able to find any reference to a Ruby on their official page. I've had both the regular HobGoblin and KingGoblin but havn't seen a ruby either.
@Tianjoja Never heard of the "Dark" version. Are you maybe thinking of King Goblin? It's a stronger and slightly smoother version of the normal Hob and is very nice.
I wouldn't say this is a "man's beer" any more so than any beer that's non Animee. LOL.
At only 5.2% ABV it's about as strong as your average macro lager.
I like their adverts "afraid you'll taste something, Lager boy?" LOL although I might hand an IPA to the people that drink only CAMRA style beers like that and say the exact same thing!
You haven't reviewed an American IPA yet, have you? You need to do that next!
@mrgrimviking I'm going to add some annotations, I really couldn't get the words out of my mouth.... I'm just staring trying to remember the word!!!! And then it came.... once I'd finished!
@MrsRealAleGuide Sometimes it's good to just see someone drinking the beer and watching the expressions. Taste notes are great but not the be all and end all. I sometimes zone out in my reviews where I am grasping for taste notes when I should just be saying how bloody nice/rubbish it is. I think in future if you get a great beer you should waggle your glasses.
Don't be afraid of the Hobgoblin Mel! It is a lovely brew. And yes it does go nice with cheese! The next step is the King Goblin which I really think you will like. Spot on review and one in the face to the poncey lady beer creators. LOOK! A WOMAN ENJOYING A REAL BEER!!!!!! Cheers Mel! Great review.
I've tried the ruby kind and fell in love. One of the tastiest ales i've had
