No polygamist is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If any member is found practicing polygamy, even if they live in a country where it is legal, they are excommunicated from the church.

The practice began hundreds of years ago when warfare, mostly tribal, left women without a man as a protector/provider. Those who could afford to do so, married more than one wife to provide and protect the woman. The rule was/is that all wives must be treated the same. Each wife normally has a different role within the household. One for child care, one for cooking and cleaning in the kitchen, one for entertaining guests,
