oh yeh totally, look at me i know all about altosax shit so im just gonna say it casually so everyone is like "gee wizz that is one smart motherfucker" dude yo yo ma finger synched this, its a load of bull shit.
First of all....chill out, your statement about the music not being piped is invalid simply because you can't express yourself intelligently and rather resort to using profanity. Anyways it's impossible to "finger synch" the cello/violin, as using a bow on the cello will force it to make sound no matter what youre doing and it would be obvious if the bow wasnt in contact with the string.
Joseph Brackett, Shaker elder at Sabbathday Lake, Maine, wrote the song 'Tis the Gift to be Simple in 1848. Over the years, it has been shortened to Simple Gifts.
The song was recorded by Sister Mildred Barker in 1977 on Rounder Records 0078, as noted in my fiddle tune book, "New England Fiddlers Repertoire" (Fiddlecase Books, 3rd Ed. 2008).
Piped in music because it was too cold for the instruments - well duh! Its January - who planned this nonsense forcing these musicians to behave like 3rd rate pop stars? - embarrassingly awful.
Actually classical musicians are quite accustom to playing outside. Many musicians have 2 instruments so that they can use a cheaper instrument for outside performance as the sun warps wood and extreme cold puts an instrument in unnesiccary danger. Well known instrumentalist generally have 1 concert instrument and 1 outside instrument and some have a solo instrument. Anywho, the point is, the music isnt piped in, finger synching on a bowed instrument isnt possible unless your bow floats
It's called Air and Simple Gifts by Joseph Brackett who was a Quaker I do believe. I am assuming this is a variation of the original. Probably arranged by these musicians? I'm just guessing! :)
This was just INCREDIBLE. Absolutely gorgeous. I have never been so emotional in a very long time. What a wonderful combination of talent. And, perfect for the best inauguration I have witnessed. YAY PRESIDENT OBAMA! Love comes your way from Canada. :)

The second half part sounds like "Appalachian Spring" by Aaron Copland.

that's cause it is the theme from it. lol.

Aaron Copland used Simple Gifts (a Shaker Hymn) in "Appalachian Spring". John Williams did a wonderful arrangement for the Inauguration.
