@sunny1694sunny You can't go wrong with either device. They are both fast devices. One is more simple and less polished (TouchWiz 4) and the other is visually appealing with a much more polished user interface (which HTC is famous for). Also if you prefer a nice metal unibody and a better phone in the hand the Sensation is for you. The GSII is a bit faster in some things but it is expected as it demands less work from the hardware. Win Win situation!
It is all objective here. The Desire S that I have tested works smoother than this dual-core. Now it does not mean I am claiming the Sensation is inferior, it's just there are a lot of variables.
For argument sake, fanboys will be fanboys. These two devices are screamers. It's just how and where they use their speeds. GS2 is by no means the most polished device. The raw-edge GS2 is less demanding on the software front while the polished Sense UI is a battery hog and definitely more attractive.
Who watches a video and at the same time pinches to zoom (a thousand times)? When I watch a video on my HTC I turn the phone landscape and it automatically enlarges to full screen, which is how I want to view video every time.
I appreciate these videos but you really have to let some things go. And I can't believe someone in your position didn't know how to turn mobile sites off. Thanks for your efforts though!
I prefer the htc sensation because they are more leaders on creating original products unlike samsung they seem to be copying the iphones hardware ....... Im just saying
One of the reasons the browser is a little slower is because of the reformatting of text on zoom. Also, I don't see pc's or iphones resizing flash lol and i think that's only with engadget, I have no problems with other sites
what mobile network are you on? and also what wireless modem do you have? i dont currently have on, but im looking for a good one, and your a techy person, thanks.
The whole zoom thing about videos is obviously for performance reasons as it would be a lot more heavier and hence a lot less smooth to deal with the zoom of flash content etc. in real time as you are zooming in and out with your fingers.
I don't need this phone to go to those geeksites.. I want it for badass fast facebook experiences open links and videos on it etc. maybe a game or 2 and the rest is sms and phonecalls.. so HTC for me please. I don't care the slightly better SGSII god I just hate that phone so bad :D
It just looks like the flash element is residing on axis above the text element of the html page. My PC browser does the same thing trying to render flash on html pages when I do CTRL + or CTRL - to resize.
Sam, tried the mobile to desktop view change on the techbuffalo site and found out what the issue is. after trying various setting changes, it clicked....(my puney brain)...it uses the information stored in the cache (the browser, not my puney brain!), so will keep reverting back to the mobile view regardless. So, clear the cache (no need to un-tick the mobile view or other settings), then try again! It worked on my Incredible S, should work the same on the Sensation.
SGSII has great performance and a still more vibrant screen compared. However, hardware quality is disappointing for a supposedly high end phone which is plastic. I've played around with this phone and it has all round quality in hardware and software optimisations can always improve though hardware cannot.
i dont have a problem with the video staying still when pinching to zoom.. find your spot where u wanna zoom in and stay there or just make it full screen......
Hmmm I have to say this has put me off a little, since I am waiting for the Sensation, however, the bugs also don't worry me. I never pinch to zoom on a video, I long press and view full screen, hell I'm watching a video on a small mobile screen I don't want to the have it smaller still. Also It might be more apparent @ real frames per second, but the scrolling looks the same almost everytime you do it whilst watching this video. Just me?
The SGSII is pretty tempting though. Especially now.
People, people. The Sensation is a great device. The Galaxy S2 is a great device. Why must we pit them against each other? Regardless of which you get, we can all agree on one thing... it makes Apple's showings (the Iphone "5" won't be a significant boost) look like crap in comparison.
Because people want to know which one to buy, because they are both THE high-end phones at the moment. And who cares about Apple, iOS is not Android, so no point really in comparing.
Samsung's phone is faster and has the vastly superior specs. But that doesn't make it the de facto phone to buy. Software is just as important, so you'll need to consider that as well. I personally prefer Sensation because if I had to choose between Sense and TW, I'd go w/Sense. The browser auto crops the data on the phone, video included, so that's a reason why it looks so bad. You can always just get a third party browser. But, yeah GS2 is just plain faster. Can't argue with that.
Browser of sgs2 is hardware accelerated, meaning it uses the GPU to render the pages. Generally other android phones don't have this. That is why an old iPhone 3gs is so smooth with stuff like scrolling and zooming because it is also hardware accelerated (but loads pages slow because the CPU is slow).
And no third party browser from the market has hardware acceleration (only for honeycomb on tablets).
Yeah, I know about hardware acceleration. It's definitely a plus. I'm just wondering why Apple has been doing it for so long but Android hasn't. And what I meant about the browser is that the stock browser tends to do that auto crop thing, but if you get another one, it would just keep the material the same on the page, making it better.
Apple releases 1 iphone a year, this makes it easy to make sure the hardware and the software take full advantage of eachother (this results in good implementation i.e. hardware acceleration).
Google can't do this with android, because each manufacture have many phones with different hardware. So each manufacture has to program the hardware acceleration themselves. Samsung took the time to do this for the SGS2 browser.
That is why iphones/macs with lower specs are smoother.
@DjiEnn Oh, and another huge plus for the GS2 is that it's bootloader unlocked. That means you can download and use custom ROMs (after rooting). For a die-hard Android fan, that is a GIANT plus. Cyanogen mod.. awesome.
@samjpullen k i know what to do, hit the menu key, select settings, language and keyboard, then you will see options but towards the bottom there is 'touch input', then tap 'trace keyboard', then check the box next to trace prediction.
there may be 'swype' above touch input too, which could work, try that? idk, thats what i could find :P
@samjpullen i dont have the phone, (stupid usa release date lol) but from what i understand, it isnt under 'input method' from the text message or web typing screen. what i read and heard is that its 'buried deep' in menus so its not simple, from what i read is you have to dig, maybe go into settings menu and go into text input settings/ input settings/ or something along those terms. then again, it could be an update to come later?
@anas2321190 You are right. The "strange" behavior of the pinch to zoom in the browser is due to the text reflow!!! It is repositioning everything that's in the page accordingly to the zoom!!! Galaxy SII doesn't adjust the text to the zoom level as far as I know. That's a matter of taste... ;)
@StickmanStig It does the flash thingy because the flash is running in an overlay because it is hardware accelerated. I would take hardware acceleration of flash with not so good any day over flash on CPU with good scrolling in GSII.
Could you show us the browser handling a 1080p clip. I know the SGII can handle it just fine, how bout the sensation? Also I am assuming you have the new 10.3 flash loaded.
I too had a hard time choosing between the Sensation and SGS2. Both are really fast devices. If you mainly care about performance, the SGS2 is the way to go. I, for one, equaly care about the user experience. Therefore I'm a huge fan of HTC Sense and it's new lockscreen.
I also like the qHD resolution (making text sharper - even readable when fully zoomed out while browsing) and the more premium look and feel of the device.
In the end it all comes down to personal preference though.
Hmmmm I've not seen this problem with flash in other reviews..Strange how it's performing...Pinch to zoom just isn't right on videos. Looking forward to more videos of the Sensation...
