Awesome job! One of my favorite scenes of the movie. Bale and Kilcher. What could be more right "sgh" A better couple than Pocahontas and Smith aka Farrel ever was!
SHE: Q Órianka Kilcher was born in Schweigmatt, Germany. She speaks English and some German. Her father is a Peruvian artist of Quechua/Huachipaeri descent. Her mother, Saskia Kilcher, a human-rights activist of Swiss descent, was born in Alaska and raised in Switzerland. Kilcher's maternal grandfather was Ray 'Pirate' Genet, a famous Alaskan mountaineer. She is a cousin of Grammy-nominated singer Jewel Kilcher.[1]..She Fights for Indian Rights around the world
At 0:17 when John Rolfe (Christian Bale) cocks his head back...it is too self-confident. He should have been more demure when approaching Pocahontas. He is asking for her hand and need to show more respect.
@sljouzo12 Yeah for someone proposing he should not be that cocky. Heck if someone was proposing to me and looked cocky it would annoy me. Rolfe was a little more gentler and patient at trying to make her love him prior to this scene though. Maybe its more of a determined look... or perhaps it is a little arrogant, I don't know like the scene anyway.
my auntie was telling me that she isn't native at all. but she is just telling the whole world she is. That first she said she was from one tribe then she said she was from another. and that she doesn't even claim her own parents because they are hispanic. she says she was adopted when her parents says "yes that is my birth child and she is not native american" but i dont know if thats 100% true
Her father is a Peruvian artist of Quechua / Huachipaeri descent. Her mother, Saskia Kilcher, a human-rights activist of Swiss descent, was born in Alaska and raised in Switzerland,.gorgeous girl though!!!!
she is not native american, no tribe will say she's one of theirs,.besides its easy to tell she's spanish,.she is Indigenous Quechua and Swiss heritage.not native American!.
She's part native American. America is not a country not but a continent. Quechua natives were not from a tribe but an Empire; the Inca Empire. So yes, in part you're right no Northern native American tribes will claim her but she's is of indigenous descent.
@basskillaz Don't be ignorant, America is the name of this continent and Peru is located in South AMERICA and her being of Quechua/Huachipaeri descent she is indeed Native American.
"besides its easy to tell she's spanish,.she is Indigenous Quechua and Swiss heritage" - Contradicition much? You make no sence.
@basskillaz ha ha it's you're not 'your'. What part of America is not a country but a continent don't you comprehend? Native American is a term applied to those who are Indigenous to America, meaning ALL of America not just one part like you are claiming. Please get educated man...
@yollochicahuac then why dont they have federal status and per caps and federal funding and reservations here?they are not listed as a 566th native American nation,.,. anyways i don't have the time to argue with you, go make some tacos or something and be happy!!
@basskillaz Because her Native ancestry comes from South America, Peru to be exact, where the population is of mainly Indigenous descent unlike the U.S that is ruled by "white" people unfortunately, who stole this land. Peru was invaded but not stolen and although there are other races there, the Indigenous people are still the majority in their own land, just like it should be here. Racist comments are unnecessary but if that's what you want to show yourself as then fine by me.
@basskillaz "who gives a shit?" about what exactly? Obviously you do since you felt the need to comment on this. Haha because I'm not brainwashed like you and actually know my history? You commented right back, I'm guessing the computer is your life...well good luck with that!
Actually she pentioned for John Rolfe to be her husband =/. At first he didn't want to marry a "savage" like her, but it increased relations with Native Americans and colonist.
As soon as she died, about a month later, he married some other girl and forgot all about his son with Pocahontas. Sad, but true.
It's true, Pocahontas and John Smith were friends, not lovers. I don't know why they insist on portraying them as such........but she was married to the lovely John Rolf.
This scene is very beautiful and I really enjoy the song choice as well. Sure, the movie isn't 100% accurate, but what historical film is? I thought it was amazing for what it was: a movie set to entertain and pay homage to great historical figures.
Pocahontas died from smallpox. They don't mention that in the movie. Also, her tribe was enraged that she died while overseas. Her death really hurt relations between the colonists and the Natives.
Great scene. But there is a reason why Malick didn't use music from a band that has very little actual musical knowledge - it makes the movie typucal hollywood garbage. Although, that song fit fairly well. haha
yup, this has caused such great pain that I don't know why they didn't use that looking glass that the scientists had that saw into the future and past to tell people some more what happened to her. I say she was tricked into going with the white's taking advantage of her youth and ignorance. She probably thought she could bring something back to her people that was better and wound up not able to do anything of the kind.
Let's just put this in perspective. It would be like a grown adult man (28) going to a high school or middle school and smooth talking a 12 year old. It's funny how white america romanticizes this movie but if were happening today that idiot would be in jail. Plus, the fact is, its a white pedophile so it's "OK". If this was the other way around in history they would have marked us as savages.
She believed John Smith was dead and hoped to salvage some happiness. We can only imagine what she felt when she had married Rolfe and then found out that Smith was alive after all.
i thought pocahontas was like 12 when she met john smith and he was a lot older? im not sure but i do know that she married rolfe in the end and died very soon after or somethingg- but it was a good movie nonetheless:D
I bet it was a little intimidating being 15 years old and loving on some Colin Ferrel and Christian Bale in the same movie, my word, LOL!! She is very talented :)
Yeah, from what I read, this movie is pretty historically accurate except for the Smith/Pocahauntas (sp?) relationship. Everything I've read says there's no evidence of it. And if there was, Smith would have been a pervert. Still, as a girl, I'm glad they put it in the movie. :)
At that time the "American accent" was yet to be born, If one learned English, it was with the proper english inflections and structures...it would have been innacuarate any other way, don't you agree? :)
Pocahontas was a preteen or in her early teens when she met John Smith in real life, so that's why she looks so young in the movie. The actress playing her is only 15 at the time of the movie.
it annoys me how pocahuntis/rebecka is all in love with rolfe when she'd been all "oh john smith" I don't get how she can suddenly fall in love again! It makes the whole existence of smith seem insignificant and pointless
Well, she believes smith is dead. You expect her to mope about and mourn him forever? and if you watch this scene, she isn't in love with him here. she's crying because she wishes that it was SMITH asking her to marry him.
