Everybody knows that the beatles created punk, this is documented with the cover "Working Class Hero" by the greatest punk band of this generation, Green Day.
Sorry, but I'm amazed: they get you to learn about Punk Rock at school but not about basic English? The Ramones gave Punk 'it's' (it-apostrophe-s?) sound? My God!

@martijnspeed The sex pistols wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the ramones actually. But the sex pistols were commercialy more succesfull than the ramones so most people tend to give the sex pistols and British punk the credit. The ramones are the true fathers of punk. Where i can just go to one of the local gigs in my hood and only pay 2 dollars. Yeah.. i think they did kinda sell out. Only because they are old and pretty much do the same shit.
they never sold out and they can do whatever the fuck they want sound wise because THEY CREATED THOSE SOUNDS, IT'S THEIRS. they are oginators which is far better than copiers who just copy the same ol same ol shit.
btw it's interesting what you state as i saw both bands recently and it was only 15 bucks which is amazing given that they are legendary bands.

You did a nice job. 60s garage bands started the sound, then bands like MC5,Stooges,NY dolls,Velvets and eventually Ramones,,Destroy all monsters,Death and Rocket from the tombs, to mention a few started what was considerd the begining of punk rock.
ummmmm, so the opening song is the Clash???? I thought this was the history of American punk? Iggy Pop or at least Lou Reed. You could have picked something equally iconic.
y the fuck is elvis there if you think he is punk then you need to shut the fuck up you fuuckin idiot and american punk is to soapy where as the english id dirty now you got fuckin jimmy where the fuck is punk jimmy is psychedelic hey hey shut the fuck up
So.....you start a documentary about AMERICAN punk with the Clash? The second image shown is Joe Strummer....I'm not knocking the Clash (love em), but American they are NOT.
"While The Ramones gave Punk its sound"...TravisRoberts is and IDIOT! He takes clips & snips from real documentaries and adds Text to make it look as if it's his own bonofied piece of work & adds a ridiculous pic of himself strolling by CBGB'S hoping in desperation to come off as "Cool"! TWO THUMBS DOWN, TRAVIS!
Harsh...but fair. If only you had time to read all of the other comments where I explain the whats and wherefores of this silly little video. Thank you for watching.
lol, everyone knows the opening is the clash, and that the clash are british, stop being a bunch of smart asses. He probably just chose that as an opening cause it sounds cool.
Freakin'...........THANK YOU!!!!! WOW! A person who is self confident and apparently doesn't need to make themselves feel better by pointing out others mistakes or feel the need to be the most punk of all the punks by name dropping obscure punk bands they Wikipedia'd! Thank you kind stranger, DRFEELGOOD, indeed.
Why you didnt include any of the earlier proto punk stuff, like the Sonics, MC5, or any of the stuff thats been collected on comps like The Back From The Grave or Pebbles series.
Q: The President and Congress are grossly ignoring and violating the Constitution with complete impunity, and what are students doing in their US History class?
The teachers work for the government. They do their job well to steer all profitable lines of thought from reaching maturity. It's their responsibility to keep the peace and status quo. So they placate and lie and make sure no one can speak too freely about real problems.
The source of 99% of the film here is a 5-DVD set called "The History of Rock and Roll" which makes this plagiarism if you are getting academic credit for it. That being said, the opening song, "Know Your Rights", is by the English group The Clash. What about the hardcore bands that were REALLY against the system like Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys? What about the Cramps? What we have in this video is what we could expect from a corporation such as Warner Brothers - the most mainstream.
Well, read carefully what I said. I'm not mad about my favorites not being in there. The problem is the title is "The History of AMERICAN Punk", yet the introduction is an ENGLISH band. Do you see the contradiction? Clearly, it was (as you say) a "quick school project," one that not much care was put into in selection of material. I hope, for everyone's sake, that the teacher called this to your attention.
This is the greates music of all time. At least thats my sincere opinion. Now, don't take this as a criticism, b/c ater all you made a cool video about a great topic (and I didn't), just a comment: needs New York Dolls/Johnny Thunders! stevensteel11 3 years ago
ummmmm, so the opening song is the Clash???? I thought this was the history of American punk? Iggy Pop or at least Lou Reed. You could have picked something equally iconic.

So.....you start a documentary about AMERICAN punk with the Clash? The second image shown is Joe Strummer....I'm not knocking the Clash (love em), but American they are NOT.

I love everything punk rock represents: rebellion,a sense of abandonment to the status quo, rawness, angst, freedom!
willieramsey21 3 years ago
Good job dude! A continuing story that needs to be told.
LordPaynus 3 years ago
There is nothing about the hardcore scene, what about Minor Threat, Black Flag, Minutemen?
endlessmike49 3 years ago
Yeah, because that's the hardcore scene. I've seen some good documentaries on that too.
LordPaynus 3 years ago
WHO THE FUCK DOES CARE WHERE PUNK "WAS MADE"?!?! stop that stupid arguing under almost all punk videos :D. just listen to music and enjoy it! :)
between I this video is great!
lilgreenfreaky 3 years ago
The facts are that American Punk began much earlier than British Punk...NYC Dolls, MC5, Iggy, Cramps, DOA, X, Velvet Underground.
jun7per 3 years ago
What about the damned? they were early 70s punk rock from the uk.
Pesterons 3 years ago
back then it was called proto punk or garage rock
TheRevivalKid 3 years ago 2
proto punk = the SONICS from Tacoma, WA!!
Thet influenced Jonny Rotten!!
jsuka555 3 years ago
"While The Ramones gave Punk its sound"...TravisRoberts is and IDIOT! He takes clips & snips from real documentaries and adds Text to make it look as if it's his own bonofied piece of work & adds a ridiculous pic of himself strolling by CBGB'S hoping in desperation to come off as "Cool"! TWO THUMBS DOWN, TRAVIS!
goldenrod2 3 years ago
Harsh...but fair. If only you had time to read all of the other comments where I explain the whats and wherefores of this silly little video. Thank you for watching.
TravisRoberts 3 years ago
lol, everyone knows the opening is the clash, and that the clash are british, stop being a bunch of smart asses. He probably just chose that as an opening cause it sounds cool.
Drfeelgood2000x 3 years ago
Freakin'...........THANK YOU!!!!! WOW! A person who is self confident and apparently doesn't need to make themselves feel better by pointing out others mistakes or feel the need to be the most punk of all the punks by name dropping obscure punk bands they Wikipedia'd! Thank you kind stranger, DRFEELGOOD, indeed.
TravisRoberts 3 years ago
Why you didnt include any of the earlier proto punk stuff, like the Sonics, MC5, or any of the stuff thats been collected on comps like The Back From The Grave or Pebbles series.
DanWars 3 years ago
I'm glad I got to go to CBGB's before it closed.

Q: The President and Congress are grossly ignoring and violating the Constitution with complete impunity, and what are students doing in their US History class?
A: They are editing videos about music.
ronpaul2008rocks 3 years ago
The teachers work for the government. They do their job well to steer all profitable lines of thought from reaching maturity. It's their responsibility to keep the peace and status quo. So they placate and lie and make sure no one can speak too freely about real problems.

TARD! "Know your rights" is British Punk!
k77jones 3 years ago
The source of 99% of the film here is a 5-DVD set called "The History of Rock and Roll" which makes this plagiarism if you are getting academic credit for it. That being said, the opening song, "Know Your Rights", is by the English group The Clash. What about the hardcore bands that were REALLY against the system like Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys? What about the Cramps? What we have in this video is what we could expect from a corporation such as Warner Brothers - the most mainstream.
DerangedRanger1 3 years ago 2
It's a quick school project. Filled with recognizable names.
Don't go getting your vicarious feelings hurt because he didn't include your favorites.
existenceisrelative 3 years ago
Well, read carefully what I said. I'm not mad about my favorites not being in there. The problem is the title is "The History of AMERICAN Punk", yet the introduction is an ENGLISH band. Do you see the contradiction? Clearly, it was (as you say) a "quick school project," one that not much care was put into in selection of material. I hope, for everyone's sake, that the teacher called this to your attention.
DerangedRanger1 3 years ago
Plus, the Clash is from the UK.
