  • This is the greates music of all time. At least thats my sincere opinion. Now, don't take this as a criticism, b/c ater all you made a cool video about a great topic (and I didn't), just a comment: needs New York Dolls/Johnny Thunders! Dead Boys (shown, but not discussed), Wayne County, and Cramps too. Well, Cramps might be a bit of a sidebar, just lobbying for one of my faves.

  • ill stick to the clash

  • punk was in fact started in bulgaria in autumn 1975,by a bakers son and his freind playind slade and suzi quatro records backwards and singing over them, through an old hoover miked up to the towns address system. they disappeared one night in a van with newyork numberplates and i love london sticker. they never reapeared.

  • Miley Cyrus!!! 05:49!!!

  • Everyone, I have made a video about boy bands and the music buisness and talking about underground music. You TUbe have tried to dissable the sound but I put the text in the "Description" box under the screen. Please come and check it out! "Boy Band Video" it's called.

  • Jim Morrison is way better then iggy

  • Jimi Hendrix was so punk when he smashed his guitar

  • these bands were performing 35 years ago. Why is punk music today so shity? Why are bands that get big are whining puntangs and the underground bands sound so distorted, sloppy, drunk, and shitty? Please tell me descent punk music.

  • If none of them had jobs, how did they get all their equipment to start with?

  • @JohnnyStorm2007 five finger discounts

  • I'm currently writing an article on a musical genre that had a heavy influence on fashion, political behaviour and social interaction..Your video gave me some helpful hints and quotes to add in my assignment! Thanks a bunch!! Hopefully you got a good mark for project!

  • great job! *favorites*

  • RIP Johnny Ramone

  • You stole like 99% of this from Punk Attitude the documentary

  • Everybody knows that the beatles created punk, this is documented with the cover "Working Class Hero" by the greatest punk band of this generation, Green Day.

  • @peperonyandchease Greatest punkband of this generation Green Day. Go wash your mouth!

  • Comment removed

  • @peperonyandchease green day are you kidding i liked green day in seventh grade that was 1993

  • @peperonyandchease In the true spirit of punk ... GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!

  • it sucks that they close down cbgbs

  • haha this is so dumb.

  • T.R. (Teen-age Rebel) Pandacan Chapter......Punks Not Dead =

  • this sucks dude......

  • it was great. do another one

  • Sorry, but I'm amazed: they get you to learn about Punk Rock at school but not about basic English? The Ramones gave Punk 'it's' (it-apostrophe-s?) sound? My God!

  • iggy pops ight..

  • iggy pop sucks

  • Hasil Adkins started punk, proto punk in the 50s

  • gayest shit ever.......

  • @12340321 thats the stupidest thhing i ever heard, my chemical romance jimmy eat world and 2000's green day is the gayest shit ever gg allin would open up for hasil adkins

  • @WVliberty DUH..Was....

  • Hmm my hair only works in punk style ...

My hair actually looks good when it's spiky or crested like a punk because i have bent hair that doesn't comb well and ends up sticking up and looks bad.

So i make a natural punk.

  • oooohhhhh you mean naturally gay....who the fuck cares...you fucking crunk core homo piece of shit, go listen to your hawthorne heights fagget

  • @12340321 i detect a hint of homophobia

Do your parents know you hide in the closet?

  • The intro and some of the images and footage remind me of the "Punk: Attitude" documentary... a little too much to be coincidence.

  • Dude, when you said Iggy Pop, I think you meant The Stooges because that was the name of the BAND Iggy Pop is the name of their frontman, not the band!

  • its realy intristing how others felt the same and became punks

  • RAmONES where the real setters of punk !

  • @martijnspeed The sex pistols wouldn't have existed if it weren't for the ramones actually. But the sex pistols were commercialy more succesfull than the ramones so most people tend to give the sex pistols and British punk the credit. The ramones are the true fathers of punk. Even the background how they invented punk tells it all. They didn't really know how to play so they played simple 3 chord songs and invented punk :P

  • @winnetouch Amen!

    HEY HO LETS GO!

  • @martijnspeed if you think ANYONE created punk, ex nihilo, you are dumber than the kids that think Blink 182 invented punk. The Remones didn't create it.

Both in the US and in the UK, there were proto-punk scenes that gave rise to the conditions that created punk.

  • @jbgandhi2 i said setters''

they didn't create it just came with them

jealous of my thumbs up.. poor you:P

    don't be so hateful

    relax man!

  • @martijnspeed This is true, the way hoards upon hoards of punk bands popped up after the Ramones started is no conincidence.

  • so many things wrong with this and the comments...get educated folks!

And, uhhh, yeah IGGY POP did PRE-DATE The Ramones AND the SEX PISTOLS...Stooge!

  • hey dummy, your 1st song is a uk punk song from the clash.

  • y did u start out w the clash their not even from here

  • too bad u used a song not even from u s a

  • I'd like to punch that guy in the face. 7:48

  • DIY ...

    anti-commercialism 4 ever

  • whats the song at 2:15

  • you have the clash - know your rights, at the start, and its a video about american punk??

  • @adda89 That was exactly what I was thinking...why not the MC5? or even The dictators?

  • "I hated the whole american dream" the man's a God!

  • First band that gave me hope, Patti Smith Group!

  • this is just a vid based on the please kill me book where is bad brains or aus rotten the germs misfits the mummies the anal cunts the good shit booo too this video waste of ten minutes forgot the greats

  • punk is punk no roots!

  • shut your mouth and open your mind is such a cool quote. I saw a sign that said that

  • @spinalcord89 me to haha

  • hey look neverwasapunk16,

no offense, it's just that your bands you listed suck, have no originality and have no following.

    case closed

  • Name a band and song you actually listened too withouth having to go back and look. there was about 20 bands on those pages total. I doubt you listened to all of them

  • gee, some would argue that their lack of popularity makes them more punk..and as far as originality...what are you deaf? i bet all u listen to is the casualties... go read a book

  • i doubt even "some" people have heared of those retards 30 years after hardcore punk was created.

    e.o.f.

  • lmfao, mike the white beaner who started his band in 1983(well after the first wave of hardcore punk ended). they were nothing but posers + now are promoted by pepsi.

funny note, back in the day, no one liked them except eMpTy-V retards.

TSOL was pulling thousands of people to their shows before s.t. was even a blip on the radar. other white punk bands were in bellflower, inglewood + parrts of east l.a. doing their thing before s.t. decided to form a band. so where is s.t. now? disbanded.

  • hahahahahaa

  • No actually they still play. But they arent really that punk anymore in my book. They try to keep up with the times so their sound isnt the same anymore.

  • I should say eMpTy-V metal retards.

  • Yes they are nigger bands. Even though most of the ones i listed are either White/Hispanic. Oh and they arent real punk either. Real punks dont start their own bands and produce their own shit .Real punks have manager like Agent Orange and sell their music to tony hawks pro skater.

  • neverwasapunk16,

I listened to your bands. They are shitty and worthless with no originality or following. Neonsurf is correct.

    Sorry dude.

  • w.e you guys are both idiots who dont know shit about punk.

  • boring, no one cares about your shit bands that no one even listens to.

  • Comment removed

  • agent orange doesn't play pop punk, they play surf/skate punk. and always have.

your bands aren't even on the map and from looking at your page and the ones you sent me, they are a bunch of wiggers and ex shit-hop retards.

not the cool hardcore/skate/surf/L.A. style that bands like TSOL, D.I., THE VANDALS, ADOLESCENTS, AGENT ORANGE, ETC ETC ARE.

    case closed

  • I don't know what your scene's like Or if it's really cool I just know what my scene's like And I think it fucking rules Positive Positive Positive Scene Positive people all around No stupid attitudes or punker than thou Just open minds and open ears I hope it stays this way for years Positive Positive Positive Scene
  • btw i hope you don't think that mohawks are still cool. lofl

  • Comment removed

  • you're a clueless fuckhead. you probably think only rock n roll bands are punk.

it was the originality of a band like tsol to use keyboards which made them stand out. back then a lot of bands like the gogo's, tsol, berlin, etc were considered punk.

now it's retards like you who promote rehashed n boring rock only fuckcrap as punk..

    I think i'll pass.

D.I., Tsol, the vandals, Adolescents, Agent orange, etc. sold out??????? not quite!

    perhaps bad religion, offspring, yes.

  • Well idk what to say

Ive seen tsol, adolescents and Agent Orange play live like 2 feet away from me. They sell there tickets for almost 20 bux. Where i can just go to one of the local gigs in my hood and only pay 2 dollars. Yeah.. i think they did kinda sell out. Only because they are old and pretty much do the same shit.

  • they never sold out and they can do whatever the fuck they want sound wise because THEY CREATED THOSE SOUNDS, IT'S THEIRS. they are oginators which is far better than copiers who just copy the same ol same ol shit.

btw it's interesting what you state as i saw both bands recently and it was only 15 bucks which is amazing given that they are legendary bands.

and not everyone is going to be in the hood to see bands play. you gotta promote if you wanna be known.

  • Comment removed

  • ya but then no one sees you play either. lmao.

hollywood music crowd is just fine, I see normal people their. people that have been around and know the deal. i'm sure there's posers everywhere but who cares? what does it matter as long as people are getting into better music? i'd rather see some good spirited people than a bunch of ugly losers beating people up for no reason.

  • and tsol play everywhere. rarely any posers.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • where's the music? not everyone wants to filter through viruses at lameass myspace.

youtube links will work. if you haven't done that yet than you're not prepared and doing your job promoting because most people would rather look at videos than write boring shit on myspace and filter through lameass friends and ad's.

  • neverwasapunk16,

Why don't you list some bands that do crossover electro-punk songs or some songs that are electro and some that are punk and i'll list them on my page.

But they have to be anti-pc bands and have real talent, style, originality, etc. But they can't be a clone like all these emo scenesters who rip off punk music.

Send me some bands. I don't care if they copy some old looks or sounds, as long as they are brining some aspect that is new.

    Can you do that??

  • Okay ill send some to you in your inbox when i get done smoking.

  • send me some too

  • Comment removed

  • dude, quit bein a dork and just make some youtube vids of your fav bands. quit wasting our time otherwise.

  • You started your "History of AMERICAN Punk" off with a British punk song. Still a good video.

  • whats the song in the beginning and nice vid.

  • the claSh ?

  • wow dude this is one sick school project

  • Im planning on making a documentary on the current L.A punk scene. I actually lived it so i know what im talking about. I have shows i recorded in south central and across L.A. . Alot of people dont really know one still exists. Its gonna be my job to show you fucks it does.

  • everyone knows it exists dumbfuck

  • You are the dumb fuck.

What im trying to say is everyone thinks punk is mainstream. I wanna show people true punk is still alive and has its diy roots.

Next time you try to insult me think of something more clever to say

  • it already is mainstream you idiot-loser.

kroq talks about punk rock picnic, the warped tour, etc etc.

how more mainstream can it get asside from eMpTy-V ???

big bands that can bring a thousand plus people in L.A. are the vandals, tsol, bad religion, offspring etc etc.

  • i wish you luck in your mission though as long as they aren't shit bands that are doing the same old boring crap over and over.

    innovation is key.

  • update,

i heared his bands, they're crap.

    case closed

  • you didnt even listen to them. If you did then you would know its not pop punk lol

  • eh yes i did. the bands you listed are inane and stupid wigger shit-hop fuckcrap with no following.

  • I bet you 100 $ you didnt even listen to them. If you think pop punk is bands that stick to the true DIY spirit then you are a fucking moron.

  • Aww did the little baby block me ? Your an idiot. I personally know Cyco Mike from Suicidal. Id like to hear what he would have to say about your dumbass

  • Once so called " punk" goes mainstream then it doesnt have the right to associate with the genre.

The Vandals , Bad Religion, Offspring are not punk bands anymore in my book.

Kids in my scene still have the diy spirit and sound a hell of a lot better then those bands, some even sound better then the old school ones. Heres an Example of real punk from today. Not gay Bad Religion Warped tour shit.

    myspacedotcom/lapunkbg

  • that is the dumbest thing i've ever heared. btw the vandals and tsol never went to major labels and are fucking legends. even the vandals quackenbush era is funny as hell and they're still a great party band.

i agree warped tour is lame as fuck but that's because it's ran by some jewtard who hasn't nary a clue as to what good music is.

though putting tsol, the adolescents and the vandals on their helped, A LOT.

i'd never go to a warped tour though. i'd see the bands on their own.

  • no new bands are better than tsol.

    name them.

  • Well ive seen T.S.O.L Adolescents play and i have the ticket stub to prove it.

I don't really like BIG punk bands anyways. Most of the ones i listen to are from my local punk scene or old school hardcore bands i find that no one has ever heard of.

  • i listened to your bands and they suck. sorry but i can't support a bunch of shit-hop wiggers trying to do punk rock

  • You did a nice job. 60s garage bands started the sound, then bands like MC5,Stooges,NY dolls,Velvets and eventually Ramones,,Destroy all monsters,Death and Rocket from the tombs, to mention a few started what was considerd the begining of punk rock.

  • This was pretty good. It was very entertaining and well worth seeing. You wold get an A in my class

  • Johnny Rotten at 0.17 ?

  • Robin Williams @ 4:56?

  • its not.

this is an american punk documentery not a u.k. documenter

  • That's why I was wondering this. That guy really looks like Rotten.

  • Yes.

  • @TravisRoberts I like it Travis. Good work!

  • @avadesow ummm.... johnny rotten is not american, just to let you know

  • You forgot the Misfits.A great part of American punk.Their song "SHE" is about Patty Smith.

  • why if it is american punk, is the song know your rights (the clash), wich are english?

  • You said in the description this was about American punk so no The Clash, Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, etc. yet your intro song is by The Clash. smooth

  • THE RAMONES!

  • epic. definatly professional quality

  • good job, using it as a source for my punk paper for rock history :D

  • good video kid

  • Good job kid.

  • why is bono talking?!?!?!?!

  • He used to go around saying that U2 was a punk band.

  • iggy inspired by jim morrison

  • and jodie foster army...and minor threat?...and flag of democracy?

  • "Sex pistols came along and burried us all" hehe xP

    Nice job man!

  • no clash

one of the songs in this is by the clash

    KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

    but still a good video

  • At least this guy tried to do something, while you sit there and talk shit on the internet. GO START A BAND AND SHUT UP!!

  • And Pink Floyd didn't lead a musical revolution?

  • post some videos of your band as a response to this!

  • punk=Ramones, clash, sex pistols

  • know ur rights... (british) Brixton riots (british)

  • ummmmm, so the opening song is the Clash???? I thought this was the history of American punk? Iggy Pop or at least Lou Reed. You could have picked something equally iconic.

  • alright you prolly got an "A" on this but its supposed to be from 1975 to the present where are all the hardcore punk bands!?

  • y the fuck is elvis there if you think he is punk then you need to shut the fuck up you fuuckin idiot and american punk is to soapy where as the english id dirty now you got fuckin jimmy where the fuck is punk jimmy is psychedelic hey hey shut the fuck up

  • Does soapy mean something in this context?

  • American Punk is much better than English punk

  • So.....you start a documentary about AMERICAN punk with the Clash? The second image shown is Joe Strummer....I'm not knocking the Clash (love em), but American they are NOT.

  • THis looks a lot like Punks not dead the movie...

  • Where is the mighty MC5 and all the freakbeat and garage bands like the seeds or the sonics??

  • how bout some old bad brains?!

  • I second that, especially since the video talks about CBGB's, which was THE place for Bad Brains

  • see you stole quite a bit of footage also used in the PUNK: Attitude documentary.

    still good imo

  • the first punk band of history is Los Saicos from Lima Perú listen "Demolicion"

  • have you ever noticed like rocknroll beach and rocknroll high school. alot of there songs are good, but alot of there songs suck.

  • what school do you go to?? sounds like a sweet college that lets you do projects like this.

  • I love everything punk rock represents: rebellion,a sense of abandonment to the status quo, rawness, angst, freedom!

  • Good job dude! A continuing story that needs to be told.

  • There is nothing about the hardcore scene, what about Minor Threat, Black Flag, Minutemen?

  • Yeah, because that's the hardcore scene. I've seen some good documentaries on that too.

  • WHO THE FUCK DOES CARE WHERE PUNK "WAS MADE"?!?! stop that stupid arguing under almost all punk videos :D. just listen to music and enjoy it! :)

between I this video is great!

  • The facts are that American Punk began much earlier than British Punk...NYC Dolls, MC5, Iggy, Cramps, DOA, X, Velvet Underground.

  • What about the damned? they were early 70s punk rock from the uk.

  • back then it was called proto punk or garage rock

  • proto punk = the SONICS from Tacoma, WA!!

    Thet influenced Jonny Rotten!!

  • "While The Ramones gave Punk its sound"...TravisRoberts is and IDIOT! He takes clips & snips from real documentaries and adds Text to make it look as if it's his own bonofied piece of work & adds a ridiculous pic of himself strolling by CBGB'S hoping in desperation to come off as "Cool"! TWO THUMBS DOWN, TRAVIS!

  • Harsh...but fair. If only you had time to read all of the other comments where I explain the whats and wherefores of this silly little video. Thank you for watching.

  • lol, everyone knows the opening is the clash, and that the clash are british, stop being a bunch of smart asses. He probably just chose that as an opening cause it sounds cool.

  • Freakin'...........THANK YOU!!!!! WOW! A person who is self confident and apparently doesn't need to make themselves feel better by pointing out others mistakes or feel the need to be the most punk of all the punks by name dropping obscure punk bands they Wikipedia'd! Thank you kind stranger, DRFEELGOOD, indeed.

  • Why you didnt include any of the earlier proto punk stuff, like the Sonics, MC5, or any of the stuff thats been collected on comps like The Back From The Grave or Pebbles series.

  • I'm glad I got to go to CBGB's before it closed.

  • since when is the Clash American punk?

  • Q: The President and Congress are grossly ignoring and violating the Constitution with complete impunity, and what are students doing in their US History class?

A: They are editing videos about music.

  • The teachers work for the government. They do their job well to steer all profitable lines of thought from reaching maturity. It's their responsibility to keep the peace and status quo. So they placate and lie and make sure no one can speak too freely about real problems.

  • TARD! "Know your rights" is British Punk!

  • The source of 99% of the film here is a 5-DVD set called "The History of Rock and Roll" which makes this plagiarism if you are getting academic credit for it. That being said, the opening song, "Know Your Rights", is by the English group The Clash. What about the hardcore bands that were REALLY against the system like Black Flag and the Dead Kennedys? What about the Cramps? What we have in this video is what we could expect from a corporation such as Warner Brothers - the most mainstream.

  • It's a quick school project. Filled with recognizable names.

Don't go getting your vicarious feelings hurt because he didn't include your favorites.

  • Well, read carefully what I said. I'm not mad about my favorites not being in there. The problem is the title is "The History of AMERICAN Punk", yet the introduction is an ENGLISH band. Do you see the contradiction? Clearly, it was (as you say) a "quick school project," one that not much care was put into in selection of material. I hope, for everyone's sake, that the teacher called this to your attention.

  • Plus, the Clash is from the UK.
