SO many Great songs and wonderful harmonies for the voices and instruments from The Mcgarrigle Sisters... I've come to appreciate their work more than ever. Big Thanks for the upload!
Another proof if needed, why we runaway from girlpowercrazies, industrial managers, hot bimbo's...and other atrocities and are so ready to give our love and respect to a woman that just is a woman! And sings like a woman!
Kate me manque....Anna aussi!
Part 3: I've had enough of being alone at home It breaks the heart then one's faith (the word for "faith" and "liver" are pronounced the same way) Dogs stay away from me and I terrify cats, I scare small children I only smoke good tobacco I like mice but I hate rates On two, three or four legs villain or aristocrat Whoever advertises will be answered Whoever asks will be rewarded
Devastated and heartbroken only begin to describe my initial response to the sad news of Kate's passing. All we have left is her music and her memory for us to ponder.
(part 3) I'm tired to be alone in my home It makes one's heart suffer (his liver too) Dogs move away from me Cats are scared of me Children are afraid of me I only smoke good tobacco I love mices, I hate rats With 2, 3 or 4 legs Villains or aristocrats Whoever posts will be answered Whoever asks will be rewarded X2
The singer says she's not a "Fille du Roi", or "King's Daughter." The term "Fille du Roi" was used by the French colonial authorities in the 17th and 18th century, when the colony of New France had too few women. They were women of lowly birth, often orphans, who were sponsored by the crown to settle in New France and increase the population. The urban legend is that many had been prostitutes. (They weren't)
Hence the singer's protest: I may be only 5 foot 3, but at least I'm no Fille du Roi....
@translatethisnow1 Une fille du roi: During the french occupation of the Nouvelle-France, '' les filles du roi'' was some women from France imigrated here on the order of the French king. He tried to populated the Nouvelle-France cause the New-England was so much populated. But the legend say then les filles du roi was in reality girls with problem in France so the king prefer to ship her in the colonie. Sorry, my english is not my best quality ;o)
@Chemicaltonn "French occupation of Nouvelle France"? French colony OF Nouvelle France is more accurate. ;-) French occupation of Native Americans or English occupation of New France perhaps more accurate... Your english is fine!
Rufus Wainwright's mom & aunt...and so beautiful, I've loved their songs forever & a day. Thanks so much...by the way, does anyone have them singing 'Excursion A Venise'? It's beautiful.
If their music isn't some of the best and most uplifting you can find I don't know what is. I've been a fan for 20 years and like it more every time I hear it.
Thanks for posting! This a great song, from their La Vache Qui Pleure CD, all in French (except for one song). It is definitely worth tracking down. Are there any more videos from this CD?

@drwelts Four-four. Four beats to the measure. Those beats are divided into quarters, eighths, etc... in the song.

Count again my friend, but this time all the way through- it certainly starts in four but there are many measures of 3, some of 5. some of 7

My mistake: The line is "liver" and not "faith".
So the second line is:
"It breaks the heart and then the liver."
(She says "le foie" which is liver, not "la foi", which is faith. I guess that's the joke).
