  • cool~

  • I love her even more now that I know she's the singer of the nana songs. I saw her in Sakuran and I LOVED it

  • she looks like Christina Ricci?

  • her small nose is so cute <3

  • Doesn't she look like Natalie Dormer?

  • Why do people make a fuss about which language she speaks or she doesn't? What is the big deal? Regardless what language she speaks, she is still gorgeous and multi-talented. Just accept it and mind your own business, jeez.

  • Is she naturally blond? I was under the impression that black hair was a dominant trait, so I'm guessing it's dyed... but maybe I'm wrong?

  • @TheAle89515

Its dyed more likely. Especially if you're mixed with some Asian background, its highly unlikely to get a natural blonde color like that.

  • lol she could understand.. y she didnt speak english! lol

  • @heymickeymickey1928

It's quite common for people to understand a certain language and not be able to speak it.

Usually happen to people that are multi-cultural

  • I guess her dad is american,so she must speak English

  • アンさん英語でしゃべってよw

  • If Dakota Fanning was half Japanese, this is what she'd look like!

  • I read that she's a genuine ass hole in real life especially when she was younger. She would bad mouth non japanese speaking models in her language in their faces even

  • @xShadowxPhoenix If you read correctly she was insulted by others models so she learn that and then she did insult others models as well.

  • Dam, I'am surprised that she cannot speak English either with all the English songs that she sings. but her Japanese sounds excellent. To a person as myself who is a student to the language.

  • @Lastoftherevolution She grew up in Japan, speaking Japanese. Of course her Japanese would sound excellent because she is a native speaker.

  • it's a shock that she doesnt speak english! lol

  • @whatsgoingonyall She once knew how to speak it but now she just understands it

  • According to wikipedia, she used to know how to speak English when she was a kid, but gradually lost the ability to do so when she grew up... what a waste...

  • oh i thought she could speak English as lots of her song were written in English, rit?

  • why is her last name Tsuchiya? isnt her mom japanese? wouldnt she have a european last name?

  • @toasteeze Yeah Tsuchiya is her mom's last name, but some mixed Japanese Celebrities go by their mom's last name if their dad isn't Japanese. All of them don't, but some of them do. So technically her last name isn't Tsuchiya it's Heider, but she seem to be more comfortable going by Tsuchiya. Beside her parents got a divorced when she was 7 so that probably another reason why she prefer using her mom's last name rather than her father's.

  • Kamikaze Grils simply rules best asian comedy movie ever

  • i think her picture man is insane.....

  • I still can't believe I missed this...I'm so upset.

  • Anna has such as sexy, husky voice.

  • Oh no, I though She still can speak English, but seems like she lost her English skill when she was young.

  • i love anna, she's the best!!! <3

  • Comment removed

  • she s talking Japanese but can speak English ^^

  • @Skurcey lol

  • @Skurcey

    no she can't.

she was fluent in japanese and english at a young age, but she lost her english fluency because she stayed with her mother in japan.

  • Hold on, what the hell? The lady is talking to her in English but she's responding in Japanese? So that would mean the lady knows japanese and Anna knows English? Im so confused!! So then why dont they both decide on ONE language to talk in!! >.<

  • @AliceStillDoll Noooo, this probably wasn't a live broadcast. So Anna could probably get the translation before responding. They just edited it out. She's responding with "はい” but doesn't necessarily understand what the interviewer is saying.

  • @AliceStillDoll Anna was fluent in English when she and her family were in USA. After her parents divorced, Anna and her mother moved back to Japan where she lost her fluency. She can understand it, but can hardly speak it. The interviewer understands Japanese even though shes not Japanese.

  • @AliceStillDoll its called a translator ...

  • i'm surprised she doesn't speak english

  • i love the "rose" song from the NANA series! :D Anna's so gorgeous! <3 i wana learn japanese :( lol

  • sometimes i wish im mixed like her XD

  • they should translate it based on what she said .... this translation is soo boring ....

    its sooo western

  • anna so cool

  • NANA! :D

  • not a really god translation :( they cut out some stuff what anna said

  • i dont get it tsuchiya anna it´s fluently in english why she didnt speak in english?

  • @andretoyo She doesn't actually speak much English, she just sings in it xD

  • I love her raspy voice =]

  • FUCK I LOVE THEM, HER VOICE, HER FACE, HER SING ALL

  • She Don't sound Japanese...

  • @yankeesfan2006 She's actually half American. I think her father is....or was that Olivia Lufkin?

  • @GintokisGirl95 I know Olivia Lufkin is for sure. Anna might be, I don't know. but I know it's Olivia's dad that gives her the caucasian look in her.

  • @KyoLover2011 As I read from Wiki, they say Anna's father is American, from Irish/ Polish descent.

  • lol the translations are very very off.

  • @oliviaw83 u live in utah!

  • @toasteeze What? I'm sorry but i have no idea what " utah " means. Care to explain it to me!!? /:|

  • @oliviaw83 utah is a state in america duh u live here

  • @toasteeze I did not know what Utah was because i do not live in Utah. I like in England, Birmingham. Plus what the fuck did your comment have to do with mine??!!!! :S

  • @oliviaw83 i thought u were this girl i know named olivia. but she's not mean like u so, sorry wrong olivia

  • @toasteeze lol, i'm not mean i was just confused, and it's okay.

  • I mean Russian american :)

  • her father was russian

  • german not polish!!!

  • Her features seem to have the best aspects of Japan and American-European.

This quite naturally would give her a special interest for photographers who are always looking for something new and fresh and different. She says it best herself in that a mixture seems to be the trend ( for now ). She is certainly striking when photographed correctly. That will all change when she gets older and the trends change !! Whichever comes first .

  • I thought she could speak english?

  • @CarlBey she could when she was younger, but she can't anymore

  • @CarlBey yes she does understand/speak english, but she's more comfortable speaking japanese.

  • @tranceloop thats right!!!!!!!

  • First dislike woot ^_^

  • @Xiphos98 wow lol

  • If I remember correctly, she knew English as a little girl. And doesn't she have a daughter, as well?

    I love you, Anna!

  • Anna is so good at singing - I love all of her songs in Nana ^^

  • @sealoffobos here aswell <3

  • the interviewer is interviewing her in english..wtf..why doesn't anna repond in english? wtf...a lot of her songs are fully in flawless english....i wouldn't think she'd be all engrish or something...

  • @FunkyMonkeybb Because she probably only knows as much English as are in her songs. It's common for Japanese singers to put English into their songs.

  • @FunkyMonkeybb because she lives in Japan and in Japan they speak Japanese. What's the big deal... ? Why should she have to speak your language?

  • @HDunplugged I dunno I just thought cuz she was mixed and a lot of her songs are in GOOD english. yes I know a lot of Japanese artists use english in their music, but anna's is GOOD english not engrish. lolol STOP BEING MEAN TO ME. =[[[

  • @FunkyMonkeybb Might be because she hasn't lost the ability to understand English when spoken to but isn't comfortable enough to speak it. I know, in my case, I can understand spoken Tagalog. However, reading and speaking it is a fun as getting a root canal.

  • was this on tv in AMERICA?!?!? AND I MISSED IT!!! SHIT!!

  • @shadowbro212 cnn international

  • Damn it's hard to bear the English voice over =_____=;;; so very hard...

  • I thought she new how to speak English because of her Dad? I wonder if they made her speak in Japanese to show more of her Japanese/Asian side for this show since it's "talkasia"?

  • @bulbasaurific I think she lost her English.. She isn't really that standard in her English songs, but still so much better than most Japanese

  • @GraceOh Oh I see, well okay then. Thank you for that!

  • @bulbasaurific maybe...but when they interviewed Ayumi she spoke english..

  • @ayuinu Oh yeah that's true...hmm...

  • Anna = Amazing...by the way, i don't care if you call me bi racial, mixed, mutt, alien...as far as i see it i am human and if people let words like that hurt them, then they aren't in control of their emotions or their lives. Words do not rule me, I rule them.

  • Yes subtitles are better. I like to hear her speak. Her voice is unique since she is mixed. :) A more husky voice.

  • I never knew CNN interviewed Anna...I love her sooo much. Thanks for uploading this!

  • eeeeeeh I can't believe they used the term "mixed" on national tv. Seriously, is it so hard to say bi-racial? I hate it when people ask "what I'm mixed with." I'm not a dog.

  • @cherumin is 'mutt' maybe the word you find offensive? Cuz mix seems fair and straightforward, isn't it?

  • @TheDoodlibop well, "mutt" would be offensive too, but no. I just don't like being called "mixed" like some half-breed animal. i realize that's not the intention, but that's what comes up first.

  • @cherumin Mixed is the correct world I am mixed and proud of that word mutt is the offensive one geez people in america found always a excuse to pitty themself

  • @Lovejoyfanatic I wouldn't say it's the "correct" word, and why do you just assume I'm from America, huh? Just because I am doesn't mean anything. All American's are not the same. Personally, I don't like being called mixed. Some people don't care, but that's how I feel.

  • @cherumin

    same here

  • Did Anna have any idea what that lady was saying? Did that lady have any idea what Anna was saying? I thought Anna would reply in English since some of her lyrics are in English. T_T

  • I love this woman! She made me feel happy about myself...

  • i thought she'd respond in English..= =

  • @MJizScarletts she cant speak english, after her parents divorces, she forgot how to speak it. she can only sing it /:

  • ちょっとは英語できると思いますよ!前、お父さんと電話で英語を話してる見ましたから。

  • @LIDI0000 本当に見ましたか?! スゴイ!

  • I love this girl. She was amazing in Kamikaze Girls.

  • when she talks about a guy coming after her for her just being a girl or for it just being her name i don't reallythink theres a difference. she'd be pretty either way is what i mean.....

  • @LastRqss

It's not that-it's that in Japan, if you are bi-racial or a foreigner, some people may tlak to you or want to be friends with you just because you are a foreigner or bi-racial. It's not a real friendship; it's superficial and it makes people wonder 'is this my friend for real? or is this just someone who likes me because I am bi-racial or a foreigner?"

  • @Muslim4Lyfe64

Oh crap, I accidentally deleted my response xD

But yes I understood that part, I just feel kind of 'blah' whenever beautiful people talk about getting attention because i hardly ever feel beautiful you know? but thats something i shouldn't have said because like Anna said, we all want something we can't have. i think we have to stop and count our blessings sometimes.

  • so.. she can understand what the woman is saying in English but can only reply in japanese/

  • えええ、アンナさん英語できないの???

    ちょっとがっくり…イタリア語はどうしたかなぁ。

    ま、いいか。ちょっと成熟した色気が出てきたから。

  • @bugbugmachine

    日本にいるハーフなんて皆そんなもんだよ。日本育ちだから。

  • i HAAAATE when they say Japanese names with an American accent. T__T

  • @miku282

And I hate how Asians don't even try to say a shit in English without accent... get lost...

  • @biaport ROFL

  • @miku282 Do you hate it when Japanese people say american names with a japanese accent then? I bet you don't you hypocrite weaboo wapanese fuck.

  • @xylitol0524 Don't be so fucking rude!

  • @miku282 UH, sorry if they aren't native Japanese and can't pronounce the names correctly. -_-

  • i am sorry, but after Nana her songs were really well.... Uninspired? Well they sucked really, I hated brave vibration.

I hope NANA 2 comes out soon so that she will sing great songs again.

  • i thought she knows english

  • @ANIME496 she forgot it at age 7 when her parents divorced

  • @ANIME496 probably understands a little, but no fluency..

  • @ANIME496 She used to be fluent in english until her parents divorced when she was 7.

  • what the frick? o_0 I thought Anna was part Russian-American? O, well, she's a hot, mixed kid. That's all that matters. ^__^V

  • aww she so humble :) she didnt think she was pretty enough, im not gay or anything, but she is pretty, and her singing voice is amazing!

  • i like her nose hahaha

  • She sounds like she's middle-aged. I mean... her voice. Weird.

  • @biglmac She blames that on her past drinking and heavy smoking.

  • @biglmac So does Koda Kumi when she speaks. She sounds young when singing but when she speaks it's like a 40 year old smoker trying to be cute.

  • SL1999, Anna understands English, but does not speak in English

  • Polish roots??? I thought she has Russian blood.

  • @franiqueblack THE WORLD IS AWESOME...A CAUCACIAN GIRL THAT DONT SPEAK ENGLISH AND A ASIATIC JOURNALIST THAT DONT SPEAK JAPANESE...REALLY WEIRD!

  • @SL1999

    the world is awesome indeed

  • it just said in the video..irish and polish

  • hmm..okay.

well, most Japanese mags wrote she has Russian blood. I guess Japanese can get things mixed up, no?

  • or maybe they have bad engrish xDD

  • @franiqueblack i think the one with russian blood is olivia

  • She's very versatile! Love her!

  • the translation in this video is a little wonky here and there :S

  • -_- I hate how they do a voice-over when somebody is speaking another language... why not put subtitles? I find the voice-overs extremely annoying.

  • @Kouseichan03 Exactly! I love her voice.

  • @Kouseichan03 i agree with you.. it was freaking annoying! >.<

  • @Kouseichan03 Because people hate to read. It sucks but it's true.

  • @Kouseichan03 because not everyone is a whiny weeaboo like you.

  • @Makoto03 Was I whining about it? No... I was just voicing my opinion and asked why they didnt' put subtitles. The reason I find the voice-overs extremely annoying is because they are mono-tone in the way the talk, while Anna isn't and actually sounds a bit hyper. Now stop being a little troll and trying to insult people. If you're gonna call somebody a name, make sure it's true. 1) I'm not obsessed with Japan or Japanese culture. I'll admit I do like it, but I like a lot of cultures. -c-

  • Now apparently since you don't know what a weeaboo actually is, I shall now explain it to you. X - means NOT O - means IS.

    A weeaboo is:

Someone who watches anime. - X

Someone who reads manga. - X

Someone who enjoys playing Japanese games. - X

Someone who is interested in SOME aspects of Japanese culture. - X

Someone who watches Japanese movies - X

Someone who is so obsessed with Japanese culture that they ignore their own. - O

Someone who attempts to act as if they're Japanese. - O

    -c-

  • I do watch anime, Japanese movies / dramas, read manga, etc... but I'm NOT obsessed with everything Japanese. I also don't act like I am Japanese, sure I may be learning the language, but I don't abuse it and mix with with English and pronounce everything wrong. If you wish to continue this, either reply here or send me a message, I'll be more than happy to feed your little troll needs. ^-^ -d-

  • @Kouseichan03 they assume most people are too lazy to read subs. I know what you mean though. I watch a ton of non English material and have grown accustomed to reading the subs.

  • @mayo211 Yeah, if you watched stuff dubbed it just doesn't sound right. Like something is missing. ^-^

  • @Kouseichan03 japanophile

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 WRONG! I wouldn't mind if the voice sounded similar to hers at all or even if there was some emotion when the dubber was talking... but it's just like the person is bored out of their fucking mind just sitting there waiting for it to be over while she's reading of a sheet of paper. Subs are just a lot better when it comes to foreign things, since dubbing usually doesn't match with the person from a movie/drama or a character from an anime. -c-

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 Now.. since you decided to judge me based off of one comment and I'm cranky since it's late at night... I shall now spend my free time telling you exactly how you are wrong about me being a Japanophile and I will be ever so kind to make this a very LONG reply for you to read. I will also be comparing to many 'definitions', if you wish to call it that, from urbandictionary. ^-^ 1) I am not obsessed with Japan or anything Japanese and I don't think it's the greatest place -c-

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 in the world, especially right now due to the earthquakes, but it kinda really sucks they got hit by the 8.9 then a 6.2 then a 6... 2) I am in the middle of learning Japanese, but strictly through anime and I do not speak incorrectly, if I don't know how to say something... I look it up *gasp* Who would've thought somebody would do that.... 3) I do cosplay, but thanks to my OCD... I want to have everything perfect before I even leave the house... And not all cosplayers -c-

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 are idiots, there may be a few here and there, but most of them are not idiots. 4) I don't think every female in Japan is innocent and shy... they're just like everybody else... 5) I am pale, but not overweight so >:P 6) Don't play RPGs and I rarely watch anime. Wow... it seems like I'm going down the list pretty quickly and proving your judgemental ass wrong... Up to 7 already... you really caught me at a bad time.... still your fault. ^-^ 7) I can like, the culture -c-

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 like the music, like the food, anime, manga, dramas, movies etc... and NOT be Japanophile. Guess what... this all doesn't just go for me... it goes for the thousands and probably millions of people who like Japan and just enjoy it for what it is. Oh yeah... and maybe some people might be pretty good at learning Japanese just by watching anime, with subs or raw, and looking up a thing every once in while to make sure they're correct on it's meaning. Not everybody who does one -c-

  • @FIGHTFANNERD3 of the things on those pretty much 'oh this is what a Japanophile is off the top of my head' lists is a Japanophile. So how about next time we just shut up and let a comment be a comment and not judge off of it. You could always just say, "Well, I disagree." or "It's just easier for somebody to listen to a dub then read the subs." No need to be a dick about things. ^-^ Wow... 6 posts all for you.... You should feel special... this is most I've ever done for somebody. Bye~ -d-

  • russian?

Anna was born to a Japanese mother and an American father with Irish and Polish roots ..

  • Fell in love with her in Kamikazi Girls

  • @ps2gether me to ^^

  • @ps2gether Me too! And the movie became a favorite of mines and she did too >o<

  • @ps2gether you rock

  • @ps2gether same!! ^^

  • @ps2gether I fell in love with her in NANA and pretty much fan girl screamed when I seen her in Kamikaze Girls :D

  • anna is such a cool chick!

she's a badass in the best possible way.

i wonder why they said her dad was polish-american and her mom's japanese when actually her dad is japanese and her mom is russian-american. O_o

  • thats strange

i remeber zapping in the interview just a few minutes because my mother instantly zapped away and i couldnt watch the whole thing

but only this few min. were enough to remember her a few days ago and starting google her....and now i start becoming quite a fan :)

    shes really a cool girl

  • gahaha.. some people. talk like they're her best friend.

  • Why didn't she speak in english?

  • because she doesn't really know english, just a few things here and there. Not enough to get her through an entire interview.

She has stated this before in other things.
