  • Just relax your grip. Subdivide in your head. It'll make your runs and your notes more even throughout the piece. Alternate more to get better rhythm & tone. Use more wrist instead of your whole arm. Keep practicing! :)

  • Very good job! I like the sound of it!

  • wow... well you can deffinitely tell you werent ready to perform this piece, your rolls are uneven, your subdivision of the 16th notes isnt all there, the use of doubling your right hand shows that you were immature as a mallet player, and your tempo fluctuates all throughout the piece, 3rd division...

  • @xiondepter shut up dude, just enjoy the solo and stop being pretentious

  • U play very good

  • Cool solo!

  • watch?v=ovxGoDEzUuo xylo on the street...

  • Great Job!!!

  • Lol. Love your blooper reel. Learned GH Green's Chromatic Foxtrot a couple months ago and that's exactly how I felt some days xD

Anyway good job! I wish I was that good in high school! Try playing the whole thing through a few times at like 3/4 speed, that helped me a lot with accuracy.

  • @sbuckit and then I realize how old this video is. Never mind lol :)

  • i weish i had a dog... :(

  • i dont get 3:54...how is that possible???

  • You are very very good. The xylos etc are the only instrument you don't have physical contact, maybe drums as well. The knockers should just try playing Mary had a little lamb and see how they go. You will go a long way in this field of music. Regards, Graham

  • 3:54 - 3: 57

Use the force..... to pick up xylophone mallets....

  • 3:45 - 3:57

    She's a Jedi......

  • whats for notes only tech!!

  • i just wanna know why did 31 ppl disliked this vid ??? it's fuckin AWESOME

  • @qqoorr1 You're always going to have people who hate on other people's good work. It sucks I know. They are the ones who can't do this or don't know how to appreciate it.

  • loved your work! keep it up

  • I'm a songwriter. I play a little of everything, nothing really well, but people buy my songs, so they must be OK. Having recently bought my first marimba, I'm checking the sites for tips. Watching your show was a total gas. i don't know if you play well or not on the big-time level, but I certainly enjoyed it, and I especially enjoyed the recital ending, the bloopers and the dog. Well done; maybe you're the next Pee-Wee.

  • gotta love ze Xylophone . . . i've wrote many Xylophone solos and ensambles

  • I haven't played the Xylophone since 11th Grade. But I was Percussion captain, so I was either playing Snare, or the Quads. Xylophone is tough. So that's why I take my hat off to you. Great playing.

  • Cool Im playing the xylophone lol

  • I really liked this sound! It's amazing!! :) Pretty nice!

  • hi katie,, thats super playing,,, am looking for a xylophone artist, forming a band, you can reply to me if u r interested,, cya

  • heheh my name and i play the xylophone too

  • @jthmlover1 my name is katie

  • cool

  • Katie, that's super! Can you write me on ICQ?

    My number: 584923912

  • Very nice, talented girl....Very cute girl !!!!!!!

  • This is amazing! Well played and keep it up.

  • YAY YOU ROCK XD

  • Really impressive.

  • Well done, Katie!

  • nich schlecht

hört sich manchmal aber stark nach

    bingbing bullubullu an

  • bravo :-)

  • You're having troubles on your chromatics and then going into rolls. And your left hand's index finger is too far out. You grasped my attention at the beginning, but as your solo continues on, you sort of lose me, it starts to ritard and you sometimes just force your wrists to get those notes when you jump from the low notes to the higher tessitura notes, causing a very bad tone. And please refrain from throwing mallets, it ruins the mallet (is that a Birch mallet?)

  • unscrupulous dick? No this is her solo am I right? This is for judges to see and judge no? And how do you know if she is aware of her weaknesses? And you don't have to be a professional to know how to hold mallets correctly.

  • Man, the guy was just offering some courteous advice. Chill out. Maybe bdecker202 found it useful.

  • When I read it I didn't find it courteous or useful, but rather nit picky and arrogant.

  • @sch00lw012k ...fiberglass...

  • im learning this song!, but anyway who's xylophoe is that?....it looks like the exact xylophone at stivers school for the arts in Dayton Ohio

  • i love it. you only use 2 mallets but you get such a good sound out of it. "its not how many malets you use its what you can do with them"

  • That was amazing loved how you used the reverse video technique with the sticks! How did you do that? and how much are one of these instruments? xx

  • bueatful pooch you have i love black labs

  • didnt she play a part from startrek

  • the solo wasn't amazing. but she's a cutie so it evens out.

  • how much a xylophone like this costs? I'm looking for one but I don't know about the types of xylophones...

  • i play the same thing but im not good like that. i need more practice.

  • wow! good job!

  • Playing this must take some skill but listening to it was painful.

  • Great job! Good technique too. You look like your grip is too stiff but you still have great technique in hitting the keys.

  • Great job!

  • That's an interesting looking Xylophone!

Is that the shape the Xylophone was conditioned, or is the camera curved at an angle?

  • That's lens distortion.

  • Oh, because I was looking at the xylophone like it was supposed be made like that.

  • that's ok

  • Do you take lessons with Cary Nasatir? I saw a picture like u on his wall.

  • hahaha you have the exact same xylophone as me, (musser kelon)

  • watch "pierre moerlen´s gong-ard na greine"....he was a real master:-)

  • Theyre the best xylophones u can ever get. We hav one at school that i play in the band and they create such great quality in sound. btw how long did it take u to learn that??

  • mmm, i'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

  • yea watever. well i think theyre good

  • awesome

  • its weird, I LOVE the sound of the xylophone, you're pretty good, where in the world do you get an instrument like that? I think I prefer the sound of a wood one.

  • It's a synthetic material known as kylon similar to fiberglass. It's advised for most public schools cause they are one cheap and two durable unlike a wood xylo.

  • Can you read music? like not rhythm but like actual mellodies? Xylo. Is really hard to play and to teach someone who cant read atleast Trebel Clef and play most scales...

  • What do you call a guy who hangs around with a group of musicians?

    A drummer.

  • fuck you.

  • Wow. Idiot.

  • Wow. No sense of humour.

  • How do you know its a percussionist knocking at your door?

The knock gets faster as it continues lol.

  • Lol.

  • @YOURFAVORITEMUSIC132 I thought it was slower? i don't know

  • @YOURFAVORITEMUSIC132 Heard the one about how do you get a drummer off your doorstep.... Pay for the pizza.

  • I can hear some licks from Frank Zappa?

  • Help me out here, Ruth.

  • hey whats the notes?

  • nice going girl

  • nice notes but the technique is....horrible :(

  • what makes it horrible? there is worse, right?

  • There is always worse....but this is on the lower scale of the ones I have seen on youtube and in real life. It reminds me of middle school players. However, the song and notes are very good and advanced....so I guess that evens it out abit

  • yeah, how else are ya supposed to hold two sticks? she was pretty good.

  • Its not how she is holding them. That is fine, but a little ways into the video you can see her just pounding the keys. The whole idea is to draw the sound out and play in the middle of the bar, so in here you can see she is just slamming them down and not picking them up at all. The overall solo sounds good, but the musicality is lacking...

  • surely the musicality is her ability to improvise well, rather than learning the technique that might take her 2 hours?

  • haha not improv :(

    but still

  • Where's the improv? But anyway, if you think technique takes two hours, you are sadly mistaken. Many great percussionists take years to develop and perfect technique. It is the primary aspect of percussion that separates the good from the great. Anyone can hit notes, but to play them musically and make them sound good is what many people fail to do. Instead of concentrating on how the piece sounds, they concentrate on speed and difficulty. That's my 2 cents ;)

  • she's just a young girl, man. chill out. it isn't effing Julliard.

  • that was great. We have that same model at my school...except it's a marimba. Sound great, awesome job

  • super nice sounds!

  • 0:33-0:37 hard

  • I'd love to have sheet music for this.

  • What's wrong with musser? I haven't seen a problem with musser xylophones before.

  • amazing maybe someday if I have the time, I will watch the whole thing

  • lol

  • I played this solo.I could do it alright, but when piano was added, it was ridiculous.

    Nice job.

  • this is serioul=sly!!! omgs1 like teh best! great prctice i can see! and love the playing n omgs she can play fast1 this is soo kewl! =0

I wish i knew how to play!

  • this improv? if it is very good at like.. music in general

  • yup this is tambourine chinois :). really nice job too.

  • :17, her lip twitched. how cute.

  • Love it ! Really pleasant to listen to.

  • I believe this is Tambourine Chinois by Keisler, originally written for violin.

  • Wow. Awesome job. :) Though I do believe that's a marimba, not a xylo. But it doesn't matter; it sounds good. :)

  • It's a xylophone. It's a Musser Kelon, too. My least favorite make and model keyboard.

  • ...oh. Well, I was just thinking it had too many octaves to be a xylo. Or maybe it's just the size; the one I use isn't nearly that big.

  • good work !! really nice playing!! ;)

  • I thought it was very nice. You can tell she has really practiced.

  • i play the xylophone and this is unbelievable!!!!

  • blasting this has actually made my migraine somewhat better...

    weird.

  • The start was kinda... But AWESOME

  • Practice makes perfect. She's just rehearsing a quite transcription, by George Hamilton Green, from a violin piece for solo xylophone. Good job! Keep up the work! There are a couple of really good postings of the same piece - one performed on marimba that is really well done. Search for it if you have time. Peace!

  • People stop the "noob, this is shit, and other things" If you don`t like it get out of here ok? You don`t have even the basic respect!!

  • Nice! :o Also, if you can play faster, it doesn't make this less impressive ;)

  • you're really good, but it sounds more like a vibraphone -> metalic

xylophone is made of wood, therefore the sound is much different;)

    but keep on ;)

  • its called tambourin chinois

  • I can put this vid of her playing on at work and listen to it all day. The fact that she's kinda HOT helps too.

  • shes really good... i couldn't do that for my life

  • i dont think thats a xylophone

  • Yep, it is.

  • I have a marimba, which I think is cooler.

  • IS it just me or is that xylo not level - looks like a traditional balafon

    *YAWNS*

  • actually its a metalliphone just in case you were wondering.

  • that was so easy

  • Well then why don't you play it and post it on youtube?!

  • prove it then

  • I would if I had a camera

  • Katie is HOT! I'd do her all day while she does that xylophone stuff! Play it baby, yes play it girl!

  • it's really cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wanna go to japan

  • Her left hand is different

  • sounds good!

  • wow... this a really good

  • EeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeYaho~!!!!

    Very Great!!!!!

    Sounds Goood!

  • i wanna go to china

  • That was really good. Just one or two minutes too long, but otherwise demonstrated great proficiency.

  • that was great!

  • this is me!

    i am awesome.

  • oh my god that was the song I had to play for my senior band auditions. I totally blew it though

  • they is called "scale" if you know the music..

It's not just hitting random notes..

  • My private lessons teacher/ band direct-conductor is one of the best marimba players in the world, he placed in the teens in Austria in 2006 and just finished arranging all 10 movements of Mussorgsky's Pictures of an Exhibition for solo marimba and will be performing it in Los Angeles this summer

  • Perfect !!! 10/10 :)

  • for some reason i want chinese food now. Hmm, maybe some sweet and sour chicken.

  • ha your funny. reeeeeeal funny kid.

  • I think I love you!

  • Rushing just a bit. Kind of sounds forced. Over all, not too bad of a job. I'm sure it took ages to practice and master. I see you had it memorized. Fantastic memory. :)

  • were you joking at the end, or are you retarded?

  • Why does this have 17,000 views? It sounds so uneven and her technique is pretty bad...

  • awesome.

  • This just sounds like she's just hitting whatever the hell she wants to hit. I'm not hearing any kind of melody here.

  • the xylophone look crooked

  • It's not crooked. She has a pentathonic scale. It's only five tones.

  • I don't know how to spell it but the name is pronounced Tambourine Chinvoi

  • did you have music or were you ramdomly playing notes?

  • Idont get it but is cool u cool too

  • That's a really complex rythmn. I agree - a metronome wouldve gone a long way.

  • If you listen to Les Claypool's frog brigade, the vibraphone player is insane

  • cool sounds hot girl!

  • wow i am a percusionniste and i cant do that :\

  • I don't care what people say about xylophones...I think they're awesome!

  • strange sound.. it sounds a bit metalic?!

is that typicall of a musser?
