  • avenged sevenfold (best rockband ever) brought me to this?????

  • IZ - Over the rainbow THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SING THE SONG !

  • how do ppl dislike this!?!?!?! i grew up with wizard of oz. my mom has one of the largest private collections. i don't understand how this singing of this song isn't THE PLAYED on cut versions because ........it's beyond words... what can i say? tori amos is magnificent

  • beautifull singing

  • Depression pays.

  • 49 people clearly hate rainbows.

  • i think that she did such a fantastic job, some sing cure and crisp like violins-(opera singers) others sing majesticly and gracefully like flutes-(chorus singers/ those who cant hit high notes) so yes there are different singing styles.

  • I dedicate this song to my friend, Troy, who has finally found peace. I love you.

  • even though the breath coming out from her mouth is also full of emotion n sensuality

  • A classic song of hope.

  • i can barely hear her

  • Hahaha, I am aware this doesn't fit the overall feel of the video at all, but you can someone in the audience farting at 0:19

  • For a little joke, I used to sing cheerful old songs in a Tori Amos impression and make them sound ponderous, profound and utterly miserable. I used to do 'The Flintstones' a lot - and 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. Having stumbled across this video now, I'm very happy to report that Amos' real remix is JUST as slow and daft, but not in the least bit miserable! That's a lovely version of the song.

  • "One day I wish upon a star" what she says

"one day i wish a porn star" what i understand

  • OMG Those Lips

    She sings like an angel

  • Nobody else has done this song so perfectly, heartbreakingly and beautifully. Easily the best version of it.

  • she did it perfectly

  • To die for.

  • She looks at the audience, then away, it's all for her this song, but then again not really - she looks at them again. Very deep in there there is an invitation she is giving us but in a coy fashion. An invite to go to the place she created with the interpretation / stylization of this song. With the comments I'm reading here there are two extreme sides... some people got to where she was waiting for you, other didn't even know you could buy a bus ticket to that place. either way it's all ok.

  • I was feeling upbeat till I started listening to this version by Tori. Somewhere in the deepest corner of my heart, a memory of a tragic event in my life resides, and Tori just made that memory resurface. It makes me somewhat melancholic now, but it's not a bad thing. Ironically, I feel just fine remembering the tragedy.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs written. And Tori makes it so...stunning and incredible that I want to cry every time I hear her sing it. I'm reminded that we are all sort of clip-winged. We all still try to fly our highest. Thank the deities for that. And for meritorious persons like Tori Amos.

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs written. And Tori makes it so...stunning and incredible that I want to cry every time I hear her sing it.

  • ‎♥

  • *****

  • Epic Singer

  • Beautiful!

  • Gods, what a tragic, sad version of this song :(

    Dreams denied, tragedy...I love it

  • I love the breathiness, it sounds like how your voice cracks under strain and saddness and adds to the wonderment

  • I used to work in a record store for the better part of the 90's, but this is the first time I'm realizing just how beautiful Tori really is.

This is the first close-up I've seen of her and is she quite stunning. :057

  • Nobody can sing better than Tori Amos!!!

  • Wonderfull ! So desilusioned. It is not a little girl singing, it's the reflection of a woman, the dreams she had ... If you look in her (very beautiful) eyes, you see: "This what I thought would happen", it was a n illusion. A wonderful interpretation of this beautiful song, placed not in the perspective of a young girl, but a woman whose dreams were never met.

  • should be called "some WHEER over the rainbow"

  • a very unique interpretation, after a long time since the song have written..

What an ironically high and unreachable dream that modernist dreamt of..

    interpreted really well..

    epic.

  • Looking kind of hot in this one.

  • Birds fly over the rainbow....why, oh why cant' I? (♥)

  • Beautiful xo

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • sigo sin entender ni media palabra de lo que canta esta señora pero me encanta que no termine de cantar y tocar

  • Gives me goosebumps every time....

  • Ohhh God! I love this woman, i can fly with this song, her voice is AMAZING, i love it!!!

    Always leaves me breathless!

  • It sounds like she cut the cheese at 0:20-0:21.

  • This is the closest to how Judy Garland sang this song right at the very end of her life. If you search for Judy Garland Over the rainbow last performance, you will see where her inspiration came from

  • @Ahdren hmm i did, but she sounded very powerful stilll! Unless I got the wrong video/clip. But actually, I kinda like Tori's version better, more intimiate:D

  • Too much pout, Her version is fine, but I imagine seeing Tom Waits or Jeff Beck doing the facial stuff with this tune & it makes me say no, she shouldn't need to do this, she can hold a tune without it.

  • wow!thumbs up

  • perfect like Tori....

  • look in her eyes, she's really feeling and enjoying it, that's what an artist it's supposed to do.

  • I Luv You Tori

  • @thefifthnail It was played at a friend of mines funeral. Very appropiate.

  • I'm sorry, but she is barely singing the song in parts. As much as it may look as if she is conveying the emotion by singing in this vunerable (ie. weak, almost silent) fashion, she is relying on the fact we know the words to the song, because it is a well known song. If this was a new song, we wouldn't have heard half of it - she isn't singing it well at all.

I am far from impressed, sorry.

  • @aidious Singing "well" is based on subjective criteria. :)

  • @aidious she isnt relying on the song's popularity because many of her sings are executed in this manner and I can hear the lyrics fine. The whispery quality is a technique many use from west end stars to popstars like Celien Dion. It gives a sense of emotion that is used when a singer would rather act out the song

  • i would LOVE to hear a Tori Amos version of "i will remember you", dont really know who wrote the original song, but i knwo Sarah Mclachlan plays it and love her version, but i think Tori could do WAY better....

  • @thefifthnail me too.....I understand where she's coming from before she was raped....this movie was played every year and watched with your sister and mom....I did....and you believe in the white picket fence and life is good where gumdrops are......but the real world is not like that at all! I know from personal experience....Peace, Love and Happiness!!! Namaste, Sherinesta

  • @thefifthnail Me too, but you called it first... lol. jk. It's a beautiful song... Actually, beautiful just doesn't begin to describe it. =)

  • This performance is so embedded in me, with her tone and passion, that it is the only thing I hear in my head anytime this song remotely comes up.

  • Meraviglioso! (Wonderful!)

  • Good God!

  • She is so beautiful! she is gorgeous in this vid

  • she looks particularly gorgeous in this vid. What year was this performance?

  • A wiser man than me once said, this is what a singing vagina would sound like.

  • They played this song in a documentary about the lives of prostitutes.

  • I like Tori but I dont like her version of this song.

  • Tears in my eyes...No need to say more,

  • great interpretation

  • God, she's older than my parents and still sexy

  • @thefifthnail I agree.. Sang by Tori .. : )

  • This is a prime example of how music can heal..

  • @DigitalGhost82

    very much agreed !

  • for some of u who dont get the meaning of the style that she is singing in i think that it represents her not rly meaning what she is saying which represents our people today (given up, lost hope, etc) she is picturing the world today but this might go for her as well bcoz i think that she was raped before and threatned to be killed so yea but this is just an assumption :DD

  • Ok, I first heard this song in the late 1950s sung by Judy Garland. Tori's version is just as emotional, but more sensual. I love it. And yeah, I'm an old fart.

  • ugh! inauthentic.

  • the song is called "over the rainbow" no somewhere in the title... this really irks me.

  • Beautiful. Stunned.

  • Tori is awesome! She is a true artist!

  • geneticly altered bridge, why not?

  • Tori made this wonderful song her very own

  • I just love her facial expressions....sassy....spirited....sexy

  • @thefifthnail definitely!

  • A splendid performance of a moving classic by Tori which The 1stPoster might appreciate if not so focused on self-didilation. Didileing to the muzzak were u?

  • give her credit lads, must be hard to sing with the producer fiddling your twat at the same time.

  • i like this because she doesnt try to belt it all out. it flows very nicely. bravo as always tori.

  • Yes! I would also suggest listening to " Gary Clark Piano" Over The Rainbow.. HIs is a piano solo that is simply divine.... check it out...

  • she's as breathy as a gorgeous, red-haired Darth Vader who can play the piano.

  • BRAVA!!!

  • great!

  • this women is just amazing. she is the most beautiful women in the world, in side and out.

  • Who is the original composer of this song?

  • @bufonoise "Over the Rainbow" (often referred to as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow") is a classic ballad song with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. It was written for the movie The Wizard of Oz, and was sung by Judy Garland in that movie. >>> Google is ur Friend

but check out the version of Brother IZ..

  • So gorgeous, I love this! ♥

  • To all the people saying "she's too breathy, she needs to put more voice into it", this cover isn't about the voice. Thousands of other singers can probably sing this better than she can. But rarely can you find a vocalist that -feels- a song the way she does. She sings it with such emotion, and truly -that- is a rare talent in itself.

  • @dreamaskylar

i wish i could give you more of my thumbs up..... :) I have to watch her sing... just to listen to her it's simply not enough.... :)

  • @dreamaskylar I like the breathiness. It makes her songs soft and sweet and unique.

  • @dreamaskylar In fact, it's breathy because the concept is breathy, wispy, airy, somewhere over the rainbow. So with that she delivers the meaning of song on a silver platter.

  • @dreamaskylar ppl r totally missing the point of this song and interpretation tsk

  • @dreamaskylar they cannot sing it betterthan she... she certainly has the voice to sing it as others have it is just that she sings as she is feeling it which is yes a very rare talent indeed... <3

  • A really talented artist can feel the music... This just goes further in showing just how talented Tori really is.

I think she was actually over that rainbow there :)

  • that was incredible............just incredible

  • She looks soo beautiful here!!

  • If she could put a little more vocals and a little less breathing in the lyrics this would be a lot better.

  • After listening to her for over 20 years she is an aquired taste some get use to and some like me fall in love with..

  • not impressed with the weird looks and raspy draw out. IZ's version is much better.

  • Somewheeeeeehh ovuh thah waimboo....

She sounds like Elmer on the song. Plus what is it with the come fuck me eyes during the song?

  • This version is awesome! So tragically beautiful. Unlike the hopeful, youthful innocence of Judy Garland's version, this one tells of a broken heart and shattered hopes...where are these blue skies and dreams coming true that you hear about? Oh right..over the rainbow. You can't really get there.

So the breathiness works, in my opinion. She is lovely and her version makes me cry.

  • @NatashaReynolds I speak an horrible english, so i thanks god for your commenti. i feel the same.

  • @NatashaReynolds Your comment is one of the most wisest I have ever read. I used to put this version away because I always felt it is strange. But after reading your words I totally found a new perspective. You're so right. This breathiness does sound like a broken heart. Life changes us constantly... We are losing our innicence. Thank you for helping me understand all of it. Greetings.

  • @koniczynkaL aw thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad you're able to appreciate the song now. It'd be interesting to see how other people interpret her version too. take care!

  • surely this is the one true God! now go and spread her gospel......

  • This is just too breathy but very beautiful Tori Amos is fantastic!!!

Only part I don't like is 2:11 the beg and end really nice.

  • this is the most amazing thing i heard in a very long time! i don't know who she is, but she is amazing!

  • i love tori amos, and i love this song, but i think she could have done a much better job singing it. to much whispering and breathing in the mic. but still beautiful.

  • i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • she has nice teeth

    :+:JAMAICA:+:

  • great pianist, great singer..but you kow between the sheets..shes gona cause you harm

  • This is how a lullaby should be sung. I simply adore it! It;s been my favorite song since Judy Garland!

  • World's the greatest Witch is now singing the song of "Wizards of OZ". Its really fantastic.

  • it's nice... 'cause she sings it very calm..quiet... not screaming and yelling like other singers who wants to show their "voice". Singing loud is not necessary the way to show your vocal abilities.

  • @mamazone You need some release...You have problems

  • I wanted it played at mine too, what a fantastic performer, I have seen her more times than I can remember, in small clubs to the Ryman here in Nashville, she is so talented

  • i love tori

i wish she loved me too

    (sigh) oh well

    :)

  • How more amazing do people need to see what an incredible live performer she is? Absolutely amazing rendition. While I like her CDs her live performances just blow me away. She gets so intimately engrossed with the music and you can feel the passion she exuberates. I like the Rolling Stones but if someone said to me you have a free ticket to either them or Tori, on the same evening but you need to make a choice, I am choosing Tori.

  • @joefederico Hell yes! She is amazing! We will go together and party down with TORI

  • she is so sexy in this vid!!!!

  • There will never be another Geena Davis, there will never be another Justin Bateman, there will never be another Faye Dunnaway, there will never be another Dolly Parton, there will never be another Catherine Zita Jones...but somewhere over the rainbow is "a lullabye". I believe in the resurrction. And, our studios can hire lookalikes to carry on or their sisters and cousins but it all comes down to "over there" The loss is temporary.

  • And there will be another Graham Chapman.

Mind you that's because as the rest of the Pythons pointed out that's because hes ****ing dead and that's your lot.

    WISIWYG

    Finis

    B****** all encore.

    Deal with it ;-P

  • @iriswigle what the freakin' hell are you talking about?

  • It's okay Tori. Sandra Dee, Goldie Hawn, Strawberry Sharon all had too much to drink that night.

  • i seriously get chills everytime I hear this

  • haha me too!!!! =D

  • Is this the same version as the one that's on "Hey Jupiter"??

  • Tori this is one of my fav songs ever and you sing it so beautiful.

  • Some where over the rainbow You wait for me

Let Angels watch upon us until we are together my LOVE.....

Bless You All, Love to whoever wishes for it!

    William

  • Beautiful!!!

    Grandma mary

  • Sensual and so sweet

  • its so beautiful and moving ;_)

  • @vikingbeard touche

  • what are you ass holes talking about, this is fantastic, if you just listen for what it is, you would understand that this is being sung stronger than SANTA CLAUSE'S BALLS!

  • Lol,Good comment.

    You have my thumb sir.

  • you're a douche.

  • im forever callin folk a douche, call them "nasal douche" it gets a funnier reception lol

  • @madisonen touche

  • I think people are too dumb to get my comment cause I love Tori lol...

  • Comment removed

  • Says who?

If you want to listen to the original i'm sure there are many videos of it on youtube. But it's really no use to sing this the same way it's been sung for ages. Music is open to interpretation, and i think this is a magnificent one!

  • I'm so glad to see this again! I recorded Tori's MTV Unplugged back in, forever ago, and had it on VHS tape... But I don't know how I lost it. =( Probably from moving around so much as soldiers do. I wish I could see the rest of this Unplugged performance. Thanks for posting! =)

  • She is full of passion, as usual. The piano-interpretation is very nice too.

Though this is completely different and probably not comparable, I do think nothing can top the version Eva Cassidiy did.

  • I was at her concert...it was amazing!

  • wow great!

  • Comment removed

  • Her voice is not supposed to be sexy and strong. The song is supposed to be sung with a feeling of isolation and coldness. What the hell are you talking about?

  • her eyes are amazin

  • Breathtaking and amazing. :)

  • I LOVE TORI!!!!!!!!

  • And people say Tori Amos isn't good? Omg, they're idiots.

  • oh tori, when i'm feeling terrible you always manage to steal a giggle from me.. luv u babe!

  • Incredibly sexy and sensual...what a woman!! Will be seeing her in Perth on 21 November 09

  • Buona versione live.

  • lol - i think i would go for the gentle, emotional thing with her.

  • Tori looks especially yummy wicked in this video ............

  • I love Tori Amos very much, and for the ones who don't get her music or like it. You still have to give props to that kind of talent.

  • "Hey, Mandy, are you gay?"

    "No, Tori, why, I'm normal."

And she is singing....some parts she's singing softer than others. :-)
