Generally too fast in places; the second movement is definitely too fast, at least in the main section. Even parts of the slow movement are uncomfortably fast - preceding the climactic moment. The articulation in some places is also very peculiar; rather hard and detached.
And typically in these big works, stray notes come out that are not meant to be prominent.
I also note that he is using the Haas edition, which I never favor - the ideal version for me is the 1890 edition of Nowak.
Sin dudas, bruckner4444, es ligeramente rápida y un poco amanerada pero esta bien. La mejor es la de Szell, es escueta, grandiosa, casi como si no la interpretara.
I didn't know that Barbirolli had recorded any Bruckner, where do these recordings originate from and what orchestra is he conducting? A first-class ensemble evidently, the string playing is out of this world. It's criminal, if EMI knew he could conduct Bruckner like this, that they never got him to record these in the studio. The climax at 43.45 and following is unbelievable beautiful and powerful. As good a Bruckner 8 as I have ever heard, full of wisdom, gentleness, divine strength & power.
@smudgepots I believe it's the Hallé Orchestra and the recording is from 1970. This sounds like the BBC restored issue that I have which has the catalogue number BBC- 4067. It's a two CD set.
