  • can i use this one to read mVDC???????cuz this Vid he's reading in mA???help pls

  • What's the name of the testing equipment he used to bias the power tubes?

  • You should also turn the volume / gain controls down to zero before taking the amp out of standby to bias...if you bias hot like this guy does check the amp for idle hiss before replacng the chassis...turn the vol up, if there's too much noise for you then back off the bias adjustment until it pleases your ear. I usually set it as high as possible while it still runs quiet...not always possible but usually is...fwiw

  • good video compaired to most on you you tube.

  • all i know is that iv heard to never, ever, ever, EVER hold the glass bottle of the tube while shimmying it into the socket because you can put tiny cracks in the glue that holds the glass to the plastic base when you apply pressure to shove them in there. i did that once and ended up with a hairline crack in a nice KT77 right at the base a couple months after i retubed. ALWAYS hold tubes by the base when you're inserting them into the sockets. It may not be as easy but its sure worth it.

  • I notice that tube amps have a standby switch and a power switch but what is the standby switch for?

  • Usually the main power switch turns on the heater circuit without turning the high B+.

You will want to "heat" the tubes up before turning on the B+. B+ is the high voltage that runs thru the plate which is often over 200v. Some tubes runs over 400v.

  • @exxtremeo Actually you don't need to heat the tubes in guitar amps before turning on the B+, only transmitter tubes need that because they operate at thousands of volts! Standby switches on guitar amps were only ever meant as a mute switch. These days they just help sell amps because guitarists think they must be needed. Truth is, they can damage amps because of cathode poisoning and choke flyback voltage causing arcs in the standby switch and rectifier tube!

  • Does anyone know where I can get a biasing tool like the one he used? I'm new to tube amps, so I don't have one. How much do they usually cost? I don't need anything crazy good.

  • he uses the tad biamp master, thats from a (german, i think) website called tube amp doctor (tad)

the bias master is simply an amperemeter together with the adapters that

  • (continued) help you measuring the correct current. if you know electronics any multimeter will do the job. if you dont you should better keep your hands off anyway. tube amps contain deadly voltages even when plugged off. its probably not worth buying this tool unless you want to bias a lot of amps.

  • i wonder why they used a rectifier tube...this amp isnt that old is it? or is there a sound advatage?

  • would this work the same for a princeton reverb?

  • Yes.

  • You need to be careful how much you jiggle the tubes out of the socket. On some amp sockets the fit of the keyway into the center is tight, rotating it very much can snap the keyway off. Don't ask how I know that. :D

  • I just biased my Hot Rod deluxe and put in some 50's sylvannia preamp tubes, its tone has brightened and its got bit more gain now. Still has the 3 year old Groove Tube 6l6GC's in it but im looking for a new pair.

  • Tube replacement for retards. :D

  • Hi

    Electro harmonix 6v6 Eh ,Anode 475v, katode 40ma , middle 30ma is ok , 26-27ma is coll for neu 6V6 tubes ,

  • I put secondhand 6V6Gts in an amplifier I built as a youngster (about 40yrs ago), they are still in there and still good... no ill effects from handling them without gloves, though it can leave marks on the glass. Most amplifiers have test points for doing the bias, if not you can link a plug and socket arrangement in between the valve and chassis with all pins except the anode wired straight through. (that diverts via the meter). Anode top cap tubes/valves are easier still.

  • Tubes JJ Electronics, from Slovakia!

  • I bought a bias master for mi deluxe reverb ri, I tried to set both 6v6 at the same range but i could do it, one is set at 22 and the other at 27, the more i tried to moved the tube from 22 to 27 the other one moved from 27 to 32. I switched tube spots and the same thing happend the tube at 22 continued at 22. Is this normal? is somthing wrong with one of the tubes? what can i do to have a perfect matchd pair at 27. thanks I´really appreciate it.

  • Unfortunately you got a pair of mismatched tubes. there is no way to adjust them to match. Occasionally this will happen. I once ordered a matched qaud of EL34s and actually got two matched pairs with a difference of 10mA's between the two pairs. So it happens. Thats why I usually order tubes from small tube dealers. not large companies who buy in bulk.

  • I thought you were never supposed to touch the tubes with your fingers when you install them...?

  • it's not a good idea to touch tubes with your bare hands, as grease from your fingers on the glass can compromise the integrity of the tube when it heats up during use.

  • yeah i know lol, but at 2:00 he touches them.

  • yeh well he should know better lol. for shame *shakes head*

  • so what exactly is biasing an amp? and if you have any videos on how to replace marshall tubes and could show me some?

  • Great vid !!!
