  • This vid pretty much showcased the only nice/fun/person friendly part of Detroit excluding Greektown. Saddens me really. Detroit has so much potential

  • Love Detroit.

  • WHITE PEOPLE in Detroit??? Was this shot in the 1950's?

  • Very colourful place, Marc......Was that a market over a bloody bridge?? (round about 4:02)...oh...and...Are these yours?!...lmao!

  • where's slim shady?

  • Beautiful video.

    Great prices on those Pineapples!

I miss watching the city street people that sing dance and make music since I moved to North Carolina. They pull in the sidewalks around here at 5:PM LOL

  • is this yours? Mine? Nota...

I think I may have to give up my co-op so that I can hit the farmers market.

  • ENJOYED THAT ARMCHAIR TRAVEL....

  • All that meat was mouth watering! Can't get an answer to a simple question, Tsk Tsk...

  • Spelling error...nope..didn't see one.

Are these yours? Such a simple question..LOL

You know I have lived right across the river for over 35 years and have never been there!! It looks like great fun! Thanks Marc...I'm putting it on my 'to do' list.

    Great prodcution!! ;-)

    Love ya~Nancy

  • Oh good, so far no one seems have noticed the typo.

I'm the same way about Windsor. I keep saying I'm going to get over there and check out the great restaurants, but somehow, I never make it. I do want to go to Point Pelee again this summer, however.

  • great video marc . It almost made me feel like I was there

  • Well done! Great to see my hometown... Love the editing, sounds from the street = really, very well done... Much appreciation.

  • Wonderful! I'm glad you seeing it again.

  • Great little video Marc. I really liked it. 4:03 was my fav spot of course.

Questions are meant to be difficult for those vendors expecting something else. Bravo

Nice to see you getting out with the camera.

  • I have friends who drag me out, kicking and screaming. Well, as long as I'm out, I figure I may as well make a video op of the situation ;-)

  • No wonder your sister hasn't seen you in ages.

  • That was awesome Marc, I reckon I could spend a few quid there!, or should that be 'bucks' looks like the best market I've ever seen!

  • Thanks Gary. I just went to Whole Foods to buy fruit and couldn't help but remember the great prices at Eastern Market, around half what I have to pay here.

  • Marc is that you? Why the new handle? I want to go to that market!

  • Yeppers, it's me. I needed a change. Was hoping you'd stop by :-)

  • I recognised your voice. Great video! I have some stuff I want to put up, but I really cannot be arsed.

Need to sort my act out I guess.

  • I've been waiting for ages for a new video from you. Hope you feel inspired to do one soon :-)

  • Wow, that market is huge. Our local one is small but I can get what I need in less than half an hour with driving time, so that's a win. We passed a HUGE one on the way to the beach Sunday, but decided that it was so large we didn't want to mess with it this time. May go back sometime though.... Thanks, nice trip. Oh, I don't think anyone will notice the spelling error if no one mentions it...

  • Great video! Now I really want to go to Detroit!

  • No you don't.

  • This open market looks a lot like the one in Nashville. I love that there is a permanent structure for people to set up in. Here? Under the trees with crap falling down on your. Lordy be the stuff looks great, but that girl was about as bright as a 3 watt bulb.

That was a nice trip, but I'm exhausted. Are we home yet? ;)

  • interesting place! Thank you!!!!!

  • wow what a colorful and lively place, thanks for sharing that with us

  • How is bus transportation where you are now? I used to do so much when I rode the bus but it all got lost after I started driving again.

  • Maybe next time I'll just say, "Are these free?" and whoever says, "HELL NO!", I'll assume to be the seller.

  • Wow, Santa certainly slims down for the summer. And if anything I think he was jollier than during Christmas. I guess having less stress does wonders for your health:)))

The pineapples were a great buy at 2 or 4 bucks. The cheapest I ever see them here in the supermarket is $3 each, and they're smaller than some of those you walked past.

  • Virtually everything at that market is unbelievably cheap. I wish I had bought a lot more.

  • I thought it WAS Blink - trying to earn a few pennies :)

  • ROFL!

  • That asparagus looked beautiful. Tough to beat the atmosphere of a really good vibrant market. But what *was* going on with those stall-holders' listening skills? ;8)

  • Not sure. At our market here in Ann Arbor, "Is this yours?" is understood by all.

  • I could spend a full day and half a fortune there. Thanks for taking us with you...

  • Believe me, when I got back, I intend to spend a bundle.

  • cool market - Motown's version of Ponte Vecchio in Florence - looked a bit like Disneyland there at the end - where does that people mover take you?

  • Lesley, the people mover basically takes people around the downtown.

  • Thank you for this tour, Marc.

I love the pubblic markets :))

  • Thanks for watching, Laz :-)

  • Are those edible shoes?

  • I don't think so. I tasted one and it wasn't very good.

  • Is this your video?

  • When you say "my video" what do you mean?

  • The drummers were amazing!

Santa is a hot stud! Slip him my 7 digits.

Can you pick me up a pomegranate? Dakota wants to try one. :)

  • Yeap, Santa is a real charmer in RL.

I don't think I noticed any pomegranates. I never quite understood what to do with them. Besides, remember what happened to Persephone after she ate 3 seeds?

  • I love places like this! It is difficult to find parking here?

  • Parking is a problem in the spring when people are buying flowers but now it's only a block or two walk.

  • Maybe I should have further asked, "But, are they yours to sell?"

  • I have no idea why an occasional comment gets spammed. Unfortunately, YT isn't letting me unspam, either.

  • That was wonderful!

Oh you and your tough questions like "Is this yours" I think half of them were probably like me. I'm deaf in one ear and I can never hear what people are saying to me out in public. lol

  • This video- is it yours? Is it your video?

Because I would like to buy it. Free was a great deal- you can't beat it- but I think maybe I can.

I LOVED the sista in the camouflage ensemble.

  • Whoa!!! She was the picture of self-confidence, wasn't she? A good outro for that scene, I thought.

  • Loved the fresh fruit and veggies...but then when the shoes popped up I just started laughing, I don't know why?? I think it started with the, "are these yours" and I lost it from then on!!!!

    Hugs

    Marylou

    xoxo

  • "We've got shoes today." She was very sweet but I couldn't film her because she said she was copyrighted. No joke. lol

  • This was my ole neighbor hood.

I lived in an orphanage on Elizabeth Street in 1964

I also went to school at Wayne State University

There is a great Dental School..At the Detroit Medicial Center.

Is The Strohs Brewary Sign still up?

Thanks for taking us Under Cobo Hall

    Convention Centre

  • Hey, I'm glad you got a little trip down memory lane from the video. Hopefully, I'll do a few more Detroit videos before summer is over. I may upload a slide show from the Heidelberg Project that I made recently.

  • Marc, loved this video. Perhaps sometime when I am healthy again this would be something I would like to do. Thank you for sharing your day with us. HUGS xoxoxo

  • Are you doing any better, Peggy?

  • I love riding in the car with you!

  • I felt your presence ;-)

  • I love markets and that was a gem! Where do they get rolls big enough to stuff those man sized steaks in!?

  • Did you see the size of the hamburgers?

  • Brian asked me what those giant pieces of meat were on the barbie- he was talking about the slabs of ribs! LOL They don't usually sell them in whole racks over here so he didn't recognize them LOL

  • Ah, that's funny. I thought he was being facetious or I would have answered him.

  • OMG I am coking ribs tomorrow.. Marc this was awesome. I woild love to actually have tagged along with you..

  • Did you do it?

  • Yes I did cook the ribs . For 4 hours and they were very tender and juicy..

  • I would have had trouble walking past the RIBS! The smoke always smells so good and draws me in. Or is it the cowboys? I get so confused about that part. Nice way to spend the day.

  • It was a hard call, wasn't it?

  • WOW...there was some very good looking produce there!

2 Pineapples for 4$! Amazing! And how about some tiny BBQ ribs :-)

    Great market!

  • Although it's only about 45 minutes from Ann Arbor, I had never been to it before. I have intended to go for years but never did.

  • was that stake or pork it look sooooooooo gooood

  • oh and yeah you need to learn new questions. i know you want to be all polite, but a lil vulgarity is what they are used to and it will make things more efficient. "are you selling these?" "how much is this?" "i need to pay for this"

  • You're right that I should have asked my question in a better way. Of course, if I had asked "are you selling these?" they'd have probably said, "Why the hell do you think I hauled them down here?" ;-)

  • omg the video quality is amazing marc. srsly.

    and those veggies!

    was like being there

  • Thanks Lea! I really need to get something to stabilize the camera so it doesn't shake so much when I'm walking.

  • You were saying "Is this yours" with an Outlander accent. Little wonder no true Detroitian could understand you.

Looks like a fun way to kill a day, but I would've brought home WAY too much asparagus. And ribs.....

  • Ah, I also brought home way too much asparagus! Wish you lived close so I could give you some (asparagus, I mean)

  • I bought a bundle of asp[aragus today and paid about 5.00 for it.. That looked better than what I bought

  • Wow that's a pretty big outdoor maket. Looks like a lot of fun and great people watching. You do ask some tough questions though.

  • Yeah, I didn't think it was a tough question until Tobie asked the same of me and I had no clue what she was talking about. Geez, I hope no one asks me a question while there's a camera rolling.

  • That did look like fun!!!

You have to stop asking those difficult questions....lol !!

The bucket drummers were good! That looks fun!

  • Those drummers were amazingly good and they never seemed to take a break.

  • That looks like a lot of fun!!

Thanks for taking me along :O)

    Hey! R those yours?

  • I guess that actually was a difficult question cuz I had to have Cay explain what the heck you meant.

  • Well...R they?

    LMAO!

  • Thanks for the trip to Detroit! I've never been there! Those guys on the buckets are good! Good to see what Santa does during his summers! And here I thought he was watching the elves make toys...ha! Those are some tough questions you were asking...ROFL!! That was a HUGE market...how fun! Did you buy any shoes?? She had your size and all...:-) Lots of goods!! Was that a "people mover" thing?? Those ribs made me REALLY want some NOW!! Did you try them?? I'm full of questions...ha!

  • I bet if you and I had gone together, we'd have needed a truck to bring home all the veggies and sunglasses.

  • I suspect you are the only one who noticed the people mover (cuz I pointed it out :-)

I did not buy any shoes. I did not try the ribs cuz I passed out from smoke inhalation before I got close enough to order.
