Thank you for this!! Im looking online for a cam (on diff sites) and i ran across the sylvaina cam...and Im looking @ your video im like....ehhhh BAD sylvaina! lol ! But thank you!
Thanks for the look at Sylvania. Yes, I agree this device's high point is price. Perhaps it helps generate a sense of competition, perhaps merely a snicker in the boardroom. But certainly for a $40.00 "disposable" class 720 recorder with a number of seriously needed features it should force a change for the better in yet to debut devices. It seems a shame the implementation comes off as crappy. I will see if Sylvania has ROM updates for what appears to be areas to firmware improvement.
@RWRamo I agree. It's cheap but you get what you pay for. I wish it was a little nicer. I was hopeful when i bought it. It wasn't great. Sounded great in their item decription
Great Comparison Job there Nick. Well Done. Hands down the Kodak is far better. I took advantage of a Geeks.com deal for the Kodak Zx1 which I'm happy with. Also went for $40. Only thing I don't care for is it goes through batteries very fast. But It's not my main recording unit, so for a kick around, the quality has been good.
What's the full battery time you've managed to exhaust during recording on your Zi8 unit?
@lbocean I rarely record for extended periods of time. I usually record footage for a video and then plug back in. I did get through an entire concert without any trouble. I didn't record everything but It seemed fine. Sry I couldn't be more helpful
I got one off woot and for $40 I've had some fun with it. Don't get your expectations too high. Video quality is OK in bright light but sometimes the audio doesn't match up with the video. I've found playback was better with VLC than with windows media player. Uploaded pretty good to You Tube.
Thanks for the review. I just picked one up for my 8 yr old son for Christmas. While not as nice as the Kodak (or my flip) it looks like it will be just fine for him. Thanks again!
Nice review Nick, it was well put together and informative. Do you have a manual setting on your Kodak? There was very little difference in the shots compared to the HD1Z's automatic settings.
Thanks...this was very helpful. I appreciate you posting this video...:)
