  • with i7-920 and i7-940

where is diference ?\ only more expensive car940 but 920 can take overlock with new cooler and you have moore and bette monster with this coller Noctua NH-U12P SE1366

  • do i need something to make my BIOS have this function? my evga x58 doesn't have a tweaker option.

  • nane twene :P

  • Comment removed

  • a fellow british

  • pentium III for ever =)

  • hi R3 can you do another video but showing how to overclock the 940 or point me to a guide that shows me how to do it. I have gigabyte ex58 with 940 cpu and air cooler would like a stable oc 3.8-4.0ghz cheers

  • why do you disable thermal monitor

  • Hey, I just made a video of me overclocking my I-7(920) using 2 freezers...one for the north/south bridge and the other for the i-7 CPU. Could you check it out and tell me what you think. Its called "Overclocking I-7(920) using two Freezers"

  • get a i7 920 and leave it be no need to overclock unless your doing major number crunching

  • hi can you give or post what speeds you achieved with i7 940 and how fast you got it upto, i have the same mobo as you and am running cooling on air thanks

  • I found the video interesting but its a shame you did not run something like OCCT to see the core temps.

  • Hello guys, I just made a video of me overclocking my I7(920) using 2 freezers.I've never see anybody try this before so i just thought i would. Please check it out. Its called"Overclocking I-7(920) using two Freezers" Please leave a nice comment if you don't mind and rate it. Thanks fellas.

  • Interesting tutorial, which cpu cooler do you recommend?

  • stop watching emmerdale!

  • just wondering did u live the system running like this on 1.45vcore from bios ? what temps u gettin both cpu and northbridge.

ill pm you in few weeks when i get the ud7 and the 920 for some guidance m8.

  • you can afford all this nice hardware but yet you can't afford a decent video camera... slightly weird.

  • why is that weird, and this is a very old vid and now r3aper does have a better cam.

  • @RKOver17,

I think he can afford a new camera, rofl. Ofc he wont buy a new camera so u can see a littlebit better.

  • @RKOver17

lol, you have not figured it out yet? We are all weirdos in one way or another. I know a painter that makes every house look great but his own. Some people own a corvette but have a crappy computer. Some have a good computer but a crappy cell phone camera. Its just the way it is deal with it.

  • Are you using stock coolers for your cpu???

  • i dont know wht hes using but its not stock thts for sure. ppl usualy use liquid cooling for oc

  • the 940 has higher off-core clocks. Try them at the same speed (BASExX)

  • @ultragaming1993 my pentium 2 can do better than ur pentium 4

  • Comment removed

  • @ultragaming1993 ORLY?!?!

  • ifyou want to know of a pentium 4 that is worse than a pentium 2,

    try a 3GHz P4 pundit R with a low profile heat sink.

you can't get worse than that!

  • Comment removed

  • WoWw 1,45 is very high... your damn cpu!!!

  • wow high vcore O.o

  • enabled. After an hour the temps were 76-77c (in realtemp) all threads 100% in prime95

  • Get a cooler.

  • i got the prolimatech mega shadow with 2x xigmatech fans, im running the i7@4200mhz 67-70C 24/100% ^^

  • What will happen if i change only BCLK frequency to 200, and leave everything else on default? The BCLK frequency should give me 4 ghz core speed isnt it?

  • Depending on your motherboard, it might automatically adjust other voltages to accomdate the higher clock speed and fry some components. Don't do it.

  • Did u OC it with the stock cooler?

  • pretty good. almost keeping up with my H50

  • probobly either a prolimitech meghlem or a corsair h50. if thats water cooling those reuslts suck. and any other air coolnig unit would laod at 80+

  • Hahaha..... Nine twenneh

  • You bought the nine twenneh? It outperforms the nine forteh?!

  • @cav3r91 ROFL

  • what cooler ?

  • i plan on getting the meghalems and 5970 as well!!

  • well, not the stock cooler

but you can't guess wich cooler you have unless you know more things(well i do guess it isn't the stock cooler)

well wich cooler DO you have?

    i also (will very soon ) have a 920 with 2 xfx 4890's

    in a nzxt apollo case

  • with what cooler

and i hope you mean important

  • hey man great vid can you post your exact bios settings.

  • I tried using EZ OC on my mobo to overclock to 3.7. now I'm going to try it manually to 4 :) I am using a dark knight instead of liquid though. I have a D0 so hopefully i will not need voltages that high... is that chip a D0?

  • Ya thats the only important thing. THAT'S THE INFO WE NEED.

  • where do people get the money to buy expensive hardware just for experiments that have been done numerious times. Can you almost convince companies to give you hardware to test if you have enough subscribers as proof you can help with advertisement?

  • they work

  • all stuff on our channel is brought and payed for by us no freebies as yet :(

  • would a spin-Q CPU cooler be able to handle this overclocking

  • great vid but i was wondering what type of heatsink & fan did you you? im about to get a 920 so it would really help me out. thanks

  • In this video the Xspc delta v3

  • very nice, but one more question... in your opinion what would be a good air cooling fan & heatsink for OCing around 3.5-3.8GHz. i am looking at the Katana 3 (Scythe SCKTN-3000), i just dont know if it is adequate for the 920?

  • hey mate thanks for the vid 1 thing i have to ask what is the idle temp cas i only have air cooling thanks

  • I have the 940. Why dont i have all these

bios options? I thought the 920 and 940 were locked.

  • lol CPU voltage 1,4 ... why is that good for ... What are the temps ....

  • is it stock fan

  • Hey m8, nice video.

I have just 1 question, how did you make that you have no post screen on your motherboard, it goes straight from your motherboard picture to loading windows? Please answer, im gratefull.

  • Im not sure exactly hat the settin is called but in the bios you will find something like quick boot and full screen logo have a mess around with some of those

  • m8 i can't find that option, i can only find full screen logo and that is not that... Can u please check it in bios for me? Thx

  • the mobo pic is show while post screen is in the background! turn off the full screen logo and you will see the post screen! it does it on my x58 extreme too

    mint vid mate

  • well here is an idea for you ...... Dont fucking watch our vids pal what is it with you trolls all you talk is shite how about you just get back on bebo and pretend you are popular .

  • Please dont compare the brummie accent to a scouse one, yes we all know the brummie accent is pretty bad.

And where are you from by the way, southern monkey by any chance?

Really, dont be a dick and slag somebodys accent off when all they are doing is putting an informative video up for the good of everyone wanting to buy this particular processor.

    Good work R3aper.

  • well said!!!!....we are all different on the outside..but still the same inside!

  • wow you suck at what you do

  • Dude your Awesome only vid i seen with gigabyte Extreme board same i use for all my systems, The O/c utility sucks for vista 64bit. Keep it up put some more videos with Better quality and subtitles and your on your way i will subscribe to your post first ever for me Good looking out.

  • you sound local, you from around leicester area?

  • Spot on leicester born and bread.

  • Im from Austrlia, but love the accent man! Reminds me of good friends I have from your part of the world :) Thanks for the vid, very informative, I've been hesitatnt to overclock my 920, but will do it tomorrow!

  • where can i find the memory multiplier?

  • Overclocking does void the warrenty but if the chip failed, i wouldnt tell them that i had overclocked it and they arent gonna spend money taking it a part to check wether i did way to much hassle for them.

  • These voltage figures you're pulling out. How do you arrive that these numbers? (Noob here)

  • Just lots of trial and error over time.

  • May i aks a question i have the 920 but why do you need to over clock it when i havnt sceen the processor use 30% usage

  • I have the Intel Core I7 940 Overclocked at 3.2ghz with 1.15 vcore.

When i get a better cpu cooler I'll probably go higher.

  • wtf lol

my i7 920 at 3.6GHz with no problems on $650 watercooling

  • which brand cpu cooler is better?

  • zalman and cooler master are both very reliable brands

  • bigger is usually better

  • haha your accent is funny... I like it though hahah.

  • making the micky of britsh accents funny boy

  • "This time I've got the i7 9 tweneh, and I've got the 9 forteh." Bahaahah. From one king to another.

  • Why don't you just leave all those vaultages on auto and have your Bios Configure it for you...You already overclocked the processor.

  • Becasue the bios wont do shit to get it stable.

    auto = factory default settings

  • Ok tnks I just ordered 2500 dollars worth of Parts for my next core i7 Build.

  • i will not overclock my 920

  • lol, why not?

  • becase the cpu life will be alot shorter

  • Not important!!!

I think Intel guarantees 10yrs of permanent runtime at stock stettings. (=87600 hours)

Let's say a higher clock (3.5GHz for instance) would reduce the total runtime by 75%.

    That still 21900 hours...

And let's say you have zero real life and play 8 hours every day. That would be 2737 days (7.5 years) of basement fun.

    More than enough I'd say.

  • youre forgetting the idle runtime

  • no.

I turn my it off when I'm not using it.

  • tiagom135

    hy my core i7 n920 run @ 3.6 ghz with 1.36 Core voltages :)

its stabil try it but CPU Coller 1 kg :D

  • mine runs at 4.3 on air at 1.15 volts

  • LOL.. i have same cpu and i use it normally 3,3 ghz and temp is 37+ . LOL NOOB

  • lol.....

  • which cooler do you use and wut are the temps and voltages?

  • 920<3

  • Ay just wondering how far can I overclock this chip with the stock cooler? 3.0ghz? Because isn't the Intel i7 940 is like 3.00 ghz...

But if I get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 or should I get the Cooler master TX2?

Which one is better plus how far will these ones allow me to overclock to?

  • 2.66 to 3.2 extreme overclock?! Hahaha.. Sure as hell made me laugh dude!

  • 2.66 to 3.2 isnt extreme overclocking. 2.66 to like 3.8 is extreme.

  • i got 4.3 on air

  • Glad I didn't click on the HD version. 4x3, come on.

  • Wouldnt matter either way its not a hd camera so even if it did fill the screen it would look shit.

  • wht is the mobo

  • Why doesn't mine show the MB intelligent tweaker?

  • hey wich one is better?????core i7 920 940???

  • 920 all the way 940 is a strange chip and i dont see why intel released it, i think i was the only person in the world to buy one lol

  • Do you have water cooling

  • Something that's really starting to bother me watching these various videos, and I finally have to say something....

    TURN YOUR TVs OFF!

  • agreed

  • Destroying a CPU during an overclocking is uncommon.

  • I made the same settings like you but it didnt boot anymore! I cant go over 170 BCLK!

    Whats wrong?

    Specs:

    Core i7 920 (3838B107)

    Gigabyte EX58-Extreme

    3x2Gb Mushkin 1333 MHz

    ATI 4870x2

    CPU and Mobo watercooled

    pls help!

  • i run my at 3.7 ghz stable

    1.35 vcore

i tried 3.8 ghz it worked

i tried 4.0 ghz it worked

    but not stable.

  • do you mean stable as in stable temperatures or as in system stability. Because I want to know, would it be possible to overclock it to 4GHz with water cooling?

  • System stable im sure 4ghz is easy on water

  • hmm yeah, but to it takes of lifetime?

  • you might get 4.4 ghz with D0 stepping

  • I got my 920 d0 stepping it does 4.2ghz at 1.22v 4.4ghz at 1.34v and 4.6ghz at 1.475 awesome chip

  • I guess it pays to wait if your on a tighter budget

  • Ahhh d0 is awesome, apparently the new xeons are slightly better for overclocking though.

  • the xeons have locked memory multipliers though so you are forced to run at 1333mhz and the xeon is a lot more expensive for the 2.66ghz one its nearly 500 quid i think. THe 920 d0 is an aboslute bargain at 250

  • you have a very good point =]

  • what are you using for cooling?

  • hmm stable?, but do it takes lifetime of you'r cpu ??? and if it dont , can you so please send me the specs so i can add the same :)

  • It will shorten the lifetime but not to a matter of months or something like that, maybe if you say the chip has a lifetime of 10 years it may last only 7 years i dont know about you but i only keep ,my cpus less than a year anyway

  • okay :) do you gonna buy 975 when it come out ? :)

  • 7 years ago was Pentium shit, just so you know.

  • My 920 does 4.2 ghz @ 1.28v :) Love my chip. Ppl with som IQ feel free to contact me. Newbies - don't.

  • The 39 seconds on bench can be lower witha lower clock. If you dont get the voltages in a happy place it runs slower. At a 3.9ghz oc i had the bench run in 37 seconds. I have a 4.2 oc now and im at 38 seconds so i need to tweak the voltage more.

  • what CPU cooler are you using to get the 920 to 4Ghz??

    thx

  • Im using an xspc delta water block with a quad koolance rad and shroud, i wouldnt recomend 4ghz with air cooling well at leat no the stock cooling.

  • whats the highest (Ghz wise) you could go on the 920, without changing the stock voltage?? Oh, and if i were to overclock to 3.6 Ghz, what voltage do you recomend?? thx

  • You can oc the 920 to 4 very easy on air. The big problem is the voltage that you give it. The more volts the higher the temp. I have mine set to 200x21 for a 4.2ghz oc on air at a stable 80c

  • 80c:\ i would go lower if i was u lol

  • yea i wont run it at that during the summer months. I can run it at 4.0 well a bit over that at 73c under load so that will be what i will run the system at.

  • still 73:\ i get like 45c full load but hey im using amd atm, i thought the i7 would be not as hot tbh, im buying 1 next week and the p6t delux. so ill get back to u with my temps :)

  • well the AMD's run cooler then the intells. Also the i7 run very hot since they have the mem controller on the die. This reduces heat on the nb but causes the processor to be a lot hotter. So the 73c on full load at 4ghz for 4 hours is great on air.

  • ya thats tru, is it the standard heatsink that came with the i7? or u using a aftermarket 1?

  • I am using the dark night. The stock cooler can hit about 3.2 or so with a decent temp. My office is very hot and its very hard to keep the temp at a decent temp. I have three desktop systems running 100% of the time and multiple laptops. I also have a nas and a file server in that room. Avg temp in the room even winter is about 80f. Now my system running a quad core with a nirvana 120 cooler at 4.4 ghz runs at about 61c.

  • Thanks man appreciate the comment and the sub.

    R3APER

  • since u got a i7 you got any idea y i get bad framerates in gta iv about 44 30's not 50 60 etc all max settings it should be able to get more fps ii got a 285 gtx black edition and 3 gb 1600 mhz corsair dominator ram what fps u think its normal to get?

  • Sounds normal to me i get the same with 3 gtx 285's people keep saying sli is supporteed but i seeing no evidence of that i get the same fra,mes with 1 card as i get with 2 or 3. Unfortunatly its just one of those games that run like shit.

    R3APER

  • so you mean i will not reach about 50 60 fps since i feel lagg under 50 what if i overclock if so how on stock intel cooler thnx

  • Overclocking the cpu will help which cpu and which motherboard do you have?

  • ASUS P6T deluxe motherboard

    intel core i7 920 cpu

i will use the stock fan now a extreme cooler i wanna overclock it just a little bit stable and safe so it can play gta iv can i make it reach 3 ghz safe and stable no over hetaing issue or reuce lifetime thnx

  • just so u got it right i use stock cooler nothing else

  • excellent stuff man, learning a lot ... I like the fact that you reply with good answers stuffed w/info...I'm sold..SUBSCRIBED!!...look forward to more vids from you.

  • Or you could just go into the bios and change the Bclk to 150 then cange the cpu v core to 1.3v that will give you 3.150GHz if it boots and you have no probs then you can go back into the bios and maybe set v core to 1.29v and keep repeating this process. If it does happen to blue screen just reset and go again maybe adding a little more voltage blue screens wont do any damage to your pc. Baicaslly thats all id play around with to start, the bclk and the vcore.

  • i mean, what have you changed in the bios? just base clock and v core too and everything else auto? obviously you gotta make sure your ram timings/volts are the same as they're supposed to be as normal.

  • Thats worth checking you are right as it will probably be 1.5v as stock but the ram wont be running at the correct speed so you could leave that but i personally run it at 1.65 no matter what just so i can rulke that out if i get instability

  • I have changed every setting, but if you just want to start ocing with i7 you could just use what i said in the last comment bclk and vcore, obviously at some point you will hit a wall and other settings will need tweaking but you are best to read up on what the settings do before messing, its difficult if not impossible for me to right up that sort of stuff on here, but the vid shows a very basic guide on what to do.

  • dependinbg on what mobo you have there a few things you can do to get a basic oc first just by enbabling turbop mode that will give you nearly 2.9ghz.

ON the gigabyte mobos it comes woith some software easy tune 6 theres an option on there called Quick boost, by clicking a button you can select 2.8ghz 3.0GHz or 3.2GHz as easy as that. Asus have there versions of this aswell as msi and probably most others. You could run 3 to 3.2GHz with no worries on the stock fan.

  • What cpu heatsink are you using, and what do you recomend if i were to get the 920, and overclock to 4.00 Ghz for it to be stable

  • Im water cooling it with an xspc delta pretty much all the water blocks out will do the job some are better than others but the difference is really only a few degrees C between them The koolance cpu 345 and 350 are both good also the apogee gtz. If you are referning to a fan and heats ink i really couldnt recommend any as ive never used one but people seem to like the thermalrite 120 or that big bastard the coolermaster v12.

  • what other settings need to be adjusted apart from the base clock and QPI?

  • you can just change the base clock and cpu voltage thats it if you wanted it to be really easy, just leave everything else on auto as you start learning more you could start changing a few other settings, but as i said you could in theory just change the bclk and v core infact you could even leave vcore on auto for the easiest and most basic oc ever, but you would hit a wall in terms of how far it would oc then you would need to start adding v core.

  • I used water cooling, i wouldnt advice 4ghz on air cooled i7. There are a few tuts out there that explain what each setting actually is which is a good idea to know what you are changing but really you could just copy the setting i use in this video to reach the same speed. If you didnt want to go quite as high, then let me know what sort of clock speed you want and i could suggest some settings.

  • is overclocking the core i7 920 easy? i don't understand all the baseclock and qpi and all that shit yet.

  • yea its easy did you ever overclock a core 2 or an fsb based chip?

If so just think of the bclk as your fsb by raising that number you will increase the clock speed of the cpu. QPI you can just leave on auto if you want or select the lowest setting that is allows which is what auto will do anyway, so really you could actually leaver all settings on auto add some bclk and vcore voltage if needed, just to start off with. Then as you learn more you can think about changing the other settings.

  • Reaper u dont need 2 go crazy on the northbridge...i believe ur running at 4.8gt/s so id leave that on auto....

  • Hey man its actually running at 7.2

at stock its 4.8. Im running 200blck x36 which is the stock multiplier, for the qpi. It does show 4.8 at first but if you watch at 3:02 when i switch to 200 blck you see it change to 7.2

    R3APER

  • Is it true motherboards DDR3 only support up to 1333MHz frequency ram? Why do they sell 1600MHz DDR3 then?

  • No thats not true some motherboards list only 1333mhz but they will all run 1600 1866 and 2000+

  • Thanks :)

  • Why does it say 7.2GHz When he says its 4.2GHz can someone explain please :)

  • The 7.2 is the qpi link speed not the cpu frequency, peopel said before and after release that the 920 and 940 wouldnt overclock because the qpi link speed will top out at 4.8 so they said go for the 965 as its capable of 6.4gt but as you can see i have mine running at 7.2 so the qpi isnt really a limiting factor for people with water cooling or air cooling.

    R3APER

  • Ahhh. I get it thanks alot

  • No probs

    R3APER

  • My 920 at stock speeds idles at 38C with a Vigor Monsoon III LT. This seem right?

  • yea that seems about right to me the chips do run hotter than the core 2 chips. Did you ever use the stock fan? if so did you notice a difference in the temps when you switched to the monsoon?
