while communism and Josep Stalin had many faults and arguabley were almost as devastating to Russia as the Nazis, they did understand that it would take EVERYONE in Russia, despite sex or ethnic background to beat the Germans. While it can be argued that they were not nearly as accomplished in tactics as the Germans they turned out to be just as tough and resilient. I read a quote from a German Commander "the russains were always great fighters,,, and in the end the were great soldiers as well"
