@StereoA You'd appear in another section of the map. That "box" has a world portal placed on its entrance, which means that when you step into it you're just stepping into another section of the map. It's how you make boxes (seem) bigger on the inside than they are on the outside, at least in Portal 2.

@MrJammification The 4th spatial dimension is what he probably meant. I don't know if the portal world is a 4 dimensional one indeed but it sure mimics one very well. How easy is it to make a 2d stick man teleport anywhere on the piece of paper? Draw 2 portals (2d lines). Bend the paper so they touch. Stick man can walk through 1 portal and come out the other but he doesn't know his world is bent in the 3d dimension. You can do the same thing with 3d if you had a 4th spatial dimension.

@Lollocide Damn it man did you not read what I wrote there? I said 4th SPATIAL. Space has only 3 dimensions that we know of or that we can perceive. Our "time" is the only temporal dimension that we are aware of and we can only travel in it one way with constant speed. The stick-mans 2d world would also need to have time as a 3rd dimension for him to be able to move.

If a have 3 red cups, then 3 blue, then 3 green, in a row and I want to talk about the 8th cup, which is green I can say "8th cup" or I can say "2nd green cup". They are both right. The same way, dimensions of space are called spatial dimensions and dimensions of time are called temporal. So if I can call the 5th dim 4th spatial dim because I was talking about a 4D space, and time wasn't relevant to my point.
