I probabably started getting serious around 16, so about 16 years...lol I should be better by now, but there are always periods of time where I hardly play, and other times I get deep into the pain...
Nope, Dave sent some of his forum members the tab several years ago. This is actually a slightly truncated version. Yeah the darn guitar was a little out, and had a few intonation issues.
Great playing man, do agree on the fact that its better to keep it staccato, that way you get that elusive double sound. I set the delay so that it has a couple of repeats, might want to try with one though, that way you can keep time much easier.
dave did some rotw's on bass tecniques, the original bass tecnique, nothe the evolved for guitar one has muting with the left hand as well as the right, watch that video and learn the tecnique, it really helped me get that choppy sound like dave dose in this song.
If I may offer my opinion, If you would like master this piece, mute you un-played strings to cut down on the excess noise, and when using this much delay, Really try to achieve Staccato and not allow the notes to ring into each other, it muds up the sound...
I am not criticizing your ability's at all, It takes some dedication to play this piece (I'm still working on that last rundown), I merely wanted to offer an opinion for improvement. Take it as you will.
I'm more than happy to offer them. I've been playing for 7 years and I dwell alot on the minutiae of my playing, so it's pretty easy for me to see alot of the little things that some overlook. My students think I'm obsessive, but when they nail their recital, they thank me :p
TY! It's a cool effect combo, with some room verb and digital echo, set to repeat twice (330ms & 660ms). By staying in time with it, you can produce some cool sonic possibilities. I think Dave only uses a single repeat though...
Yes they do indeed. Not only that but your whole hand position has to be readjusted. If you reference the other strings form the typical E, you can get flabbergasted and start playing the wrong strings. You quickly get used to it though.
dude, i couldn't agree more on the seven string part. i just bought one. takes a week or so to get used to the whole my-estring-is-actually-a-bstring stuff. sounds great dude, i'll give you five stars. but if you can take some positive critisism try to control volume some more on the 0.46 seconds part. (not that it is a big of a problem i guess coz i dcan see you got your right hand technique down)
nice job.

The only two vids of Dave doing it I know of, is the one with his own band in PA, and the Vai Live Astoria DVD. I'll post if I find the vid link!

what kind of delay is that?
CoversByUs 2 years ago
It's a simply 2 tap delay...forget the timing but one is at say 300ms, the other at 600ms.
br1ancrowell 2 years ago
Thank you very much

About at 369 ms.

Hey! Thanks! I actually got the TAB from Dave himself. Check out his website & forum!

Guitar is out of tune and too much reverb, but other than that, good job.
xxArcanexx 4 years ago
Hmm, I'm usually critical on tuning...not sure I hear what's out. There's not much verb at all, but the delay amount is indeed a bit much.
br1ancrowell 4 years ago
listen at 0:50, you'll here the tuning then. nice playing though

dude, you play it just like dave,so exactly,so good, sounds awesome,i hope you like my version

Nice work. The 7 string necks do really make the neck look a lot wider/taller.
