There is a difference between choosing the best care possible for the cost vs. rationing care. Right now, private insurance companies ration care. They will flat out refuse to pay for a surgery if they think it won't help or pay for a drug that is experimental. Of course their reasoning is profit driven.
A public option would obviously have some limits. It won't pay for breast implants for porn stars. It will pay for generic drugs before paying for name brands. That's not rationing.

You'll notice I have Buckley at the TOP of the list - as in BEFORE much of the "dumbing down". To his credit, he purged many of the right wing hate groups (that are now back). Reagan, however, represents when conservatives actually came to power. Hell, I voted for him once in 80. Mickey Mouse & Stalin could have won THAT year. Unfortunately, like W, he was 90% TALK & flag waving, very little walk. To his credit, Ron Paul, who is NOT in Reagan denial, ran AGAINST Reagan's "3rd term" in 88.

Reagan inherited a marginal tax rate of 70% (SEVENTY PERCENT)and by the end of his term that rate was at 28%. Inflation and interest rates came down. He refortified the military and essentially brought the Soviet Union (trying to keep up with us) to its knees. So no, he wasn't all talk and flag waving. Though he did give great speeches and restore a great deal of confidence and patriotism in this country in the post Viet Nam/Watergate era, which in and of itself is a noteworthy accomplishment.
