People have the right to bear arms. A cop has no authority to demand that someone disarm themselves.

Media reports what they are told, and frequently cannot be trusted. Barrett is dead, he cannot respond. I would be surprised if it went down any other way than the officer threatening deadly force first.

It used to be that you didn't draw, until drawn upon. That is the proper use of force. However, now officers are incorrectly taught to threaten people with deadly force when they are not even armed.

If you have a gun pointed at you, you're being threatened, no matter who it is.
