This is Dickenson Russell Coal's Laurel Mountain mine. The man in the man trip is Ron Patrick, the President. I will be working underground as a supervisor for DR.
@dthac1 Coal region of PA haha try Northumberland country and a bit south of there Start in Shamokin and Pottsville, Nanticoke, PA. Some of the weirdest type of anthracite mining verticle mining because of the way the veins went. a great example would be Ashland PA. the Pioneer tunnel. A great example of a bad depression Due to the cause of mining is the PA coal region Specifically Shamokin and Kulpmont Centralia where the mine fire still burns.
Actually, the fella makes it pretty clear that the 31/2 miles refers to the trip down into the mine by the way he's pointing and when then again when he adds the line about there being 700 feet of mountain above his head.
it might be foolish for some people but for ones that are near mins usually dont have any other choice at the time and once u are in the mine u are in it for good not dead... i mean its in your blood and its gotchya now!!
tdickenson0001.....Don't be afraid. I was the same way the night before, but when I entered the mine, I knew I found me a home. I loved working in the mines, but the mine shut down overnight. I'm in a different job now, but still will always remember being a coal miner. I wish you the best. Be careful.

lol how dumb the is the media.not 31/2 miles under it is 31/2 back into the mines. the shaft isnt 5 -6 feet high. the seam is 5-6 ft.

The seam, is the whole section of coal. The shaft, is the hole.
