easily one of the best films ever made. i couldn't think of a better actor to play LaMotta than de niro. his performance was spectacular, he just brought the movie to a whole new level.
Robert De Niro took over Marlon Brando as best actor living. The torch was carried when De Niro would play the young Vito Carleon who before was played by Brando. Now that he is mentioning Brando's similar role in another boxing film, De Niro is certifying his place as best living actor. Also, Raging Bull (1980) was made one year after Brando's last - truly great film, Apocalypse Now (1979)
pleaae please please , i watched this magnificent movie when i was a child , and i rewinded the piano part that begins at 5:35 like a hundred times , back then ... please i need the name of that heavenly piece of music and who conducted it ...
@Beale64 The quote is part of the dedication to Scorcese's film school professor, Haig Manoogian, who died just before he had the chance to see this film, but who had taught the young director to "see".
Como is a character earlier in the movie. the guy with the glasses who wanted him to throw the fight. marty's brother must have been with him at some point
This is a great film... I never really noticed before, but Paul Thomas Anderson really borrowed a lot from this last scene in Raging Bull for the last scene in Boogie Nights.
Not saying that it's a bad thing to pay homage to a classic film, though.

First time watch, it was excellent. DenNiro was a fuckin huge asshole, and it ended in the most depressing way possible, but overall, it was real.

30 years later and still so powerful. Scorsese's portrayal of male insecurity still is as moving and universal as always. A true piece of art.

A great film by most standards, but since it is rated so highly, it ultimately is OVER rated.
pitbull103 1 year ago
@pitbull103 Fuck that overrated shit. If something gets so much fucking praise, it did something great.
I suppose in your opinion it could be overrated, and that's fine. But this business of things "getting too much" praise is too much bullshit for me.

The biblical quote always makes me cry. Such power in that passage, and I guess you can say it defines Jake La Motta's life.
"All I know is this: Once I was blind and now I can see."

That was the "famous 'I could have been a contender' speech?" Weak! Overrated movie, man.
