@jennaluvshorses Yeah it would be nice if people who couldnt afford to take care of horses properly didnt have them. Unfortunately, telling people "if you cant afford to take care of it you shouldnt have it" isnt going to stop them from owning one. sorry.
How is this solving anything?! EVERY horse has the RIGHT to live as we do! Killing them labels humans as what?! Superman?! NO! KILLERS!! Would you kill your own child because you can't afford it? or would you give it to someone who can?! & WHY Focus on controlling the horse population when we can be focus on Killing off more humans coz We're clearly over-populated!
Oh this is pissing me off! horses dont deserve to be slaughtered the way they are being slaughter now! There should be a rule that 50% and under for there health is okay to be slaughter but any higher is just SICK! Why would someone slaughter a healthy horse?!! Yea I understand if you can't afford Euthaniasing them but you should have been prepared for all that... anways and another thing horse slaughter is nessecary if you put them to sleep before slitting there throats while there breathing!
I just would like to say thank you very much for creating this video. It has really inspired me. I am a horse lover, but I do realize that the cruel life for a horse is never going to end. I would rather they be shipped to a slaughter house in the US and make it a quick death than suffer. Very nice video. Thank you again. We need to make everyone else understand.
Even though horse slaughter is illegal in America, it is still legal in Canada and Mexico. Regardless if it's illegal here, the horses that go to auction can still be bought by meat buyers, and endure a long trip to Canada or Mexico and the slaughter trailers that were not meant for horses. I think banning horse slaughter in America was stupid, as they are still being slaughtered else where, but have to endure a long trip to a different country in terrible conditions.
I liked the video, though I don't like the idea of slaughtering horses it is no diffrent then slaughtering a cow. I own a riding cow that I love just as much as my horses, they are no diffrent then horses they love you just as much and are just as smart yet we eat them. I feel slaughter is needed but I feel the slaughter houses need to be watched more closly and made sure things are being done right, not just with horses but with all slaughter animals.
Basically. Here are the issues. 1. QUIT BREEDING HORSES! we don't need anymore horses in the world. 2. Make slaughter HUMANE! Just put them down without pain or suffering. Are we to lazy to do that? Feed them, let them graze, kill one by one and show them love
I don't know about privately owned horses, but I do know that wild mustangs are not starving. I've watched wild horses many, many times; those "gathered" were not starved. I've seen at least one that was starved, but I contribute that to either a medical problem or just life in the wild.
There r MILLIONS of unwanted dogs/cats who are neglected but we don't slaughter them. Its the owners responsibility to euthanize/surrender. You will have abuse til the end of the world because people are cruel & selfish. Yes we need breeding regulations, and a percent of every registration fee should be put it towards breed rescues and retirements. But slaughter is an easy excuse for slimebags to dump horses and squeeze every penny out of them.
Im definitely not making excuses for anyone! Yea, your right, it is the owners responsibility. But not all owners are responsible and you cant force them to be. No we dont slaughter cats and dogs but we do euthanize them. Im sure if there was as big of a market for dog and cat meat as there is horse meat we would be having the same problem with them as well.
I'm never going to agree with slaughter, I just can't. Imagining my horse going through that pain is unbearable.
But I just don't believe horses should be slaughtered because of our stupiid mistakes. There are over 6,000,000,000 humans on the planet, far to many in my opinion, yet, are we going to slaughter all these humans. What makes us better than them? There are humans suffering all over the world, in poverty and dying of starvation yet we aren't going to kill them. Why kill the horses?
Firstly, I do value a humans life over any other, you dont have to agree, thats just my opinion.
I dont "like" slaughter by any means, i hate seeing horses suffer just as much as you do. I think it is more humane to kill them, to then let them starve to death. Being in a slaughter house for a few weeks or days is a better way to go then months upon months of starvation and agony
AQHA breeds approximately 150,000 horses per year...maybe they could take a hiatus? Horse slaughter is BIG business. Just like the illegal drug trade. Just like child prostitution.... You have a horse, he ages, you put him to sleep, make that part of the budget. OR don't get one, until you've saved that. Breeders can pay into a Euth fund every time one lands on the ground. By the way, horses live 25-35 years. If you are on the fence, there are alot more things you should want to know.
It is a sad thought to permit the slaughter of these beautiful animals, but i have also seen the consequences of banning horse slaughter. The abuse, neglect, and abandonment that is now occuring because of closing down the plants is a much worse fate for these horses.
nice vid. i totally agree with you. i also agree with pjcnet on the horse thing. when you get a horse you should keep it till it passes of a nice old age. if you arent willing to do that then dont get a horse. im for slaughter. alot of horse people get mad at me for saying that, but i dont care. there are WAY more worse things to ban than horse slaughter(animal abuse wise). again, great vid
Too many people breed horses even though they are well aware of the current overpopulation of horses. People should need a hard to obtain license in order to breed their horses, that way only certified people are able to breed their horses. Right now anyone and everyone can breed their horses and that only makes things worse.
The horses should not suffer for our pathetic stupidity, we overbred them and they must suffer for our mistakes which isn't fair to them. For every unwanted human, let's just send them to slaughter as we do with horses since that is what you're saying. Horses are living creatures upon Mother Earth as we are, and I don't care if most humans find themselves superior to all of the Universe, we are no better or intelligent then the other animals since guess what, WE ARE ANIMALS AS WELL!
The sad reality is where are all these animals supposed to go? You cant just let them go thats unrealistic. I do however have a problem with the method of the bolt gun which was designed for cattle not horses. It's seems very ineffective, in the UK we have two slaughter plants for horses and its one shot to the head. The horse is in a room alone and it dosent seem any where near as stressful for them. Why they dont all use this method is abit of a mystery to me.
You shouldn't have a horse to start with if you're not willing to look after it through ALL it's life. The way most humans treat animals is despicable. Horses and animals have as much right to live as we do, killing because there is too many is no excuse, should we kill humans because of over population? Birth control is a good method and should be with horses too, but people should be forced to look after a horse for life if they choose to have one or pass on to a reputable home.
No u shouldn't get a horse if ur not willing to look after it. But sayin so isnt goin to stop it, there will always be cases of abuse and neglect in our world, and thats just something we all have to learn. I have always valued a human life over a horses, thats just the way I have been raised. Though i dont like to see horses slaughtered i feel its better than watching them starve to death. If you knew horses at all u would know that the horse market is very down, there just arent enough homes
You are wrong that they are closed do to funding. The foreigners who ran the slaughter houses where making millions and paying little to no taxes in America. Before you make another video please do your home work and learn the real facts about horse slaughter
@ohhsnappdawg I agree with him though. The 3 in the US were foreign owned. The meat horses sell for anywhere between 25-400$ at the auctions, I know b/c I've been there. The meat is then sold for 15-30$ a lb. The owners do not pay taxes. So you tell me, where is all that money going? Certainly not to "humane methods" its going to line the bloody pockets of the bastards who own it.
Then animal right groups need to get more involved with bettering slaughtering methods then just trying to shut them down completely... because i dont see that ever happening. Even if the houses here in the US got shut down, the horses are just gonna end up in Mexico, and yes i have done my research and from that I know the horses are much better off getting slaughtered here then having to go to slaughter houses in mexico that are not monitored.
If only the government could set aside some grassland and let them graze there life out...like BLM land but for only for previously owned horses with manmade shelters to go under during harsh weather conditions...like being free but still being watched over. woudn't that be great!!! but its not gonna happen unforunately! i would let mine go and give her a chance before going to auction or a slaughter house and let nature take its course!! :)
@ohhsnappdawg Ok, I'm kinda getting annoyed with this whole starvation thing. I'm not sure where you are coming up with figures that people are starving their horses BC slaughter is banned. Get me the facts PROVING that horses are starved because of the slaughter ban and I'll believe you. This is propaganda to hold up an ineffective defense. In case you havent noticed, Many horses were starved and beaten BEFORE going to slaughter. IVE SEEN IT AT AUCTION. Maybe U need to get some facts straight
I know this because i have seen it. I live in an area where lots of people go to these auctions, buy 10 horses or so, bring them home, and then i drive by everyday watching them waste away to nothing because the owners dont feed them and cant afford to. Ive called the SPCA many times but they dont do much... why? because they have nowhere to take the horses thats any better.
You are just proving my point by saying you see starving horses at auctions. THATS EXACTLY WAHT IM TRYING TO SAY!
So yes, my facts are plenty straight. I know what these horses go through from first hand experience. And though my horses receive only the best care, im sick of looking at my window seeing my neighbors horses starving to death every single day knowing there is not a damn thing i can do.
What ever happened to people being held accountable for starving/abusing these horses. We need stronger animal cruelty laws "not" more slaughter houses.
The Killers and Auctioneers are all making money. The Overbreeders and the Associations such as the AQHA, APHA and other overbreeder associations are making money. NOTE not one of these organizations set funds for older horses nor donated to any rescues in the US or Canada. Its not unwanted horses its unsold horses at hight prices.Period..
You make a perfect argument. I do think we should throw an equal amount of weight into stopping overbreeding issues, but we should definitely reinstate slaughter with new regulations. If possible, the horses should be killed under veterinary supervision BEFORE they're shipped. That way, there can be no abuse, the horses receive humane deaths, and maybe eventually we can stop the process altogether by controlling our horse population. Until then, we need to do something about the problem - fast!
uh this is exactly what I was getting at that their needs to be slaughter plants!!!
hince the horses suffering and starving and that all the anti slaughter people were worried about was money.
You need to get your facts straight before pouncing a comment that is all for horse slaughter, I am more concerned with the horses well fare than money.
Just for future comments make sure you understand what the person is getting at before being so hatefull!!!
Everyone expects the anti-slaughter people to 'do something with all the horses'- wait a minute, did WE breed them(and make the money)? No. Did the breeders, registries, and everyone down the line make money(and in the end the slaughterhouses?) YES. And WHY hasn't someone stepped up and done somethin about overbreeding? CUZ THE 'INDUSTRY' HAS TO HAVE AN OVERABUNDANCE OF HORSES TO KEEP THE MONEY,THE BIGGG MONEY COMIN IN. THAT is what it is REALLY all about, protecting the money, and the industry.
Why is it every anti-slaughter person has to say something about money??? It is about the horses well fare guys, horses are being STARVED now and mis-treated worse now than ever before...sounds like MONEY is whats on y'alls mind. :( sad really, I'd be more worried about the horse and I am.
Well geez, then maybe you should throw your weight in and try to stop overbreeding than making stupid comments you can't back up. It doesn't matter who bred the horses...they're here. Push through anti-overbreeding bills and FIX the PROBLEMS. Don't just say "stop slaughter!" and then do nothing else. Slaughter should be better regulated, I definitely agree, but YES, we WILL have to do something with the surplus of horses until we get breeding under control. Humane slaughter's a good way.
A well aimed bullet to the head is cheaper as well, by a loving and heart broke owner, who chose NOT to make a buck off his/her loving partner's dying moments, rather than to send them to a assembly-line torturous death. Fact is, the overpopulation of horses is necessary to keep the go-thru-horses-as-you-like environment, for all the breed registries as well as the tack & supply, feed, medicines- racing and the quarter horse industry, all fed by blood money. It is all about BIG, CORRUPT, MONEY
well if bad owners were given a severe fine maybe the $300 to put a horse down would be worth it. I would rather let my horse starve in a field than bring it to an auction where it is terrified.
thats not going to happen.... that doesnt even make sence? Lets be realistic please. That is a really terrible thing to say! You rather have your horse suffer for endless moths of pain instead of a week to days?
That's terrible that you would let your horse starve rather than give it a quick death. Starvation is a horribly painful way to die. You obviously have no idea what "humane" is.
Unwanted horses should be put to sleep in a humane way... not sent to an auction and then shipped for days to a slaughterhouse. It's not the killing that is wrong it is the way they are killed.
yes, that is what SHOULD happen. But do you realize how much it costs to have a horse euthanized? between 200 and 300 dollars. Alot of people cant afford that, alot of people have no other choice. Unless they just let them starve do death and in no way is that humane.
I run a horse rescue. The pictures at the end are what I deal with. Before I started the rescue. I was a professional breeder. Pro Breeders are not the problem. Back yard breeders are. This problem should be approched as the dog and cat over population problem has been addressed. With gelding and spaying of PET horses. There should be research in a more cost effective way to spay a mare. Grant money provided for gelding horses. There are too many horses. So stop making them. Simple.
I have yet seen an answer to this persons question you anti-slaughter folks... she/he asks what is going to happen to the 100,000 horses YEARLY PEOPLE!?!?! Maybe because you have NO answer other than they starve to death. The horses are suffering at YOUR cost!! You might like to see a horse starve and be very under weight but I don't. It breaks my heart to see a horse suffer this way.
In addition, I think people should euth their horses instead of sending them to slaughter. It's a much more humane fate and if ever given the choice I would rather euth it than potentially sending it off to the slaughter house.
I believe this is a point that has been pointed out time, after time, after time. Its not that people dont realize that euthanasia is more humane. Its that alot of people cant afford it. people rather send there horses to slaughter and get a little money in return then pay a hefty fee to have the horse euthanized and the body disposed of.
Okay. So here's my view on this. Slaughter is necessary but really shouldn't be. Slaughter is a horrible thing. Slaughter SHOULD NOT EXIST.
The reasons why it exists are all very easily reversible (harder selective breeding, cutting back on breeding numbers, educating breeders on ACTUALLY TRAINING their foals) but foolish pride prevents anything from being done.
Right now, it's needed because there just ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM.
What you say is true. But it has,so now we deal with it. By making grants available to people who cannot afford to have there PET horse euthanized and the body removed humanely.
that's the thing. It IS easily reversable! All people have to do is breed responsibly and stop putting out crap there is no market for. All people have to do is make a commitment to horses when they decide to buy one, and realize that you can't just buy a horse and toss it aside when you have no more use for it.
They aren't hard concepts! Just people are too pig-headed to get it.
NO its not. It sounds easy enough, but its not going to be. Who knows if we will ever see an end to slaughter, who knows. There will always be a want for horse meat. So far, I have see no effort on anyones part being done to help stop overbreeding, none what so ever. We can talk about it till we are blue in the face, but talking isnt saving anything. Sure, slaughter plants have been closed. But who has that saved? no one. Instead of dying in a plant they are dying in plants they are starving.
I'm doing something about it. A lot of people are doing something about it. I e-mail plenty of breeding farms and do my best to educate them. I've changed quite a few individuals' minds about breeding their grade horses.
And I am far from alone.
Pessimists are what's making it so hard. That and those barn-blind assholes who are too selfish to open their eyes to the problem.
It would be easy if people would stop being so PROUD and selfish.
I dont see myself being pessimistic just realistic. The concept, simple. Enforcing the concept, not so simple.
Sure, the word is being spread on a individual basis. But that wont be enough. We need organizations. Ones that arent just concered with closing slaughter houses but stopping the problem at the source. i.e. breeders and owners
Slaughter houses arent the problem, ignorant horse owners are.
We also need organizations that can place horses in homes. After plants are closed.
what they have already should be humane.but they don't use the equipment properly..shooting a mare in the shoulder instead of the head is not necessary.they have a sign in the slaughterhouse that shows the workers where to shoot the horses.but they don't do it.
People who work at slaughter houses arent monsters. They are just ordinary people who do it as there job. If you havent seen an actual video in a slaughter house before you will see that the horses can jump around alot. Im sure the workers arent intentionally shooting horses in the shoulder, accident happen!
I have to disagree with you there. Maybe ALL of them are not monsters but a good majority of them enjoy what they do more then they should. It's one thing to make a living off something unpleasant because you need to feed your family. But it's a totally different one to do it because you get pleasure from feeling empowered. I've seen plenty of videos where the workers are screaming, cursing, and making games out of killing the animals for just 10 minutes of sick pleasure.
There are sick people every where. I would say that a very very small majority is really like that. You would have to be mentally ill to enjoy watching anything suffer. I know some people who work in slaughter facilities (cattle, pig) and they definatly dont necessarily enjoy there jobs, and to say that they do is mean and unfair.
The fact that some do it is wrong enough. I'm not saying they all do, I said "majority". And that is correct. I'd recommend that you watch a video of the people who test on monkies. They beat them then shove tubes down their thoarts not showing a single ounce of remorse for what their doing. Or better yet go watch hidden camera videos of pig slaugter houses. I've seen plenty were the workers drag the pigs outside and throw bricks at them and jump on their heads. Denying evidence is whats unfair.
you obviously have not found stuff that I have found.even when the slaughter houses were open in the US the USDA hardly ever inspected the plants. They got away with SOOO much stuff that was illegal.such as a video I watched where a guy used the captive bolt gun and shot the horse in the shoulder..NOT IN THE HEAD.They don't care about the welfare of the horses.they just care about meeting their quota.the horses were being treated the same way in the US as they are in canada and mexico.
I do not believe so. Slaughter houses are poor, thanks to us. They have to kill the horses with the means that they have. I propose instead of hindering slaughter houses we help them. We donate money that can go toward creating a more humane method of slaughtering horses.
you aren't seeing the full picture here.the majority of horses that go to slaughter are not just unwanted by everybody..they are unwanted by one person. We don't even give them a chance to find a new home..it's like "ok I don't want it, send it to the auction so a killer buyer can purchase it".that's what happens with race horses.and what about pregnant mares that get slaughtered?that baby doesn't even get a chance at life.and what about stolen horses?they don't deserve this at all!!!!
As for race horses, they all go to auction before the kill buyers. They have a chance to get a real home, but again, due to our declining economy people cant afford to keep horses. They may not be "unwanted" but there are just not enough homes to go around to save them all. If racehorses go to slaughter its the fault of the race horse industry so blame them, not the slaughter industry.
wow..first of all the pictures you were showing of skinny and dead horses are exactly what most horses look like when they get to the slaughterhouse..where they still have to wait a long time before they are slaughtered.and did you know the majority of horses sent to slaughter are NOT ones that are unwanted?they are ones that were stolen or sold from racetracks because they are no use for the owners anymore. We don't even give the horses a chance to find a new home.
Slaughter houses dont starve there horses. That doesnt even make sence, a skinny horse isnt going to have any meat to sell! Owners starve there horses before they send them to slaughter. I would say that a very very very small percentage of horses at slaughter are stolen. Horses are very cheap right now due to our bad economy so there is no need for stealing when most slaughter houses get them for free.
I hope they open up the houses again, there are not enough rescues to take in all the horses that have no where to go and now that are starving to death, so good job all you anti slaughter people, because now they are going to all starve to death a far worse thing than being slaughtered
They should let them all go...cause they should be free! They are just like humans, live freely! and on all that land that the slaughter's have, the horses could be free! Y should they be "KILLED" cause no one wants them! Somewhere in this world a kid isn't wanted but do u see them going 2 "KILLING" that kid? NO! They need 2 just stop slaughtering horses! Im going 2 fight for this one way or another! Anyone try 2 stop me then ill just fight even harder! so this is what i think about it!!!!!!!!!!
I don't agree with you. Problems like starvation only happen cos us humans don't know how to care for them and we mistreat them. We should stop slaughterhouses and release the 'unwanted' ones to go free, therefore they can live and die naturally- as they used to many years ago and survived to this very day. Who are we to play God????? It's not our decision whether horses should die because there's too many, let nature do it's own course- humans always have a need to be included in everything!
"We should stop slaughterhouses and release the 'unwanted' ones to go free," and where, may I ask, are the "free" horses going to go? They're going to give the mustangs diseases, get hit my cars, and other horrible things.
i totally agree with you in more ways than one. and i agree but the slaughter houses arent going to get support, to many complain about it being cruel and dont care enough to fix it, just sit back and say they shouldnt do that with no care to the consoqunces
Another thing a lot of high end breeders are slowing down on breeding because they can't afford to feed, haul their high quality stock due to the fact that supply can't keep up with demand with the overpopulation of horses. However "back yard" breeders keep breeding because they want a "baby foal" ahh isn't that sweet!
Thank you so much for posting this video. So many people today have no idea about any animals and see a "stop horse slaugter" video, news article, ect and think that is what needs to be done. They don't realize about the immense numbers of unwanted horses and the abuse that is going on because of them and bad owners. I wish there were more videos like this and less stop slaughter videos and then maybe people would understand. It is worse without slaughter plants.AGREE ON BREEDING CERT. 100%
if only we had the room to let them roam free , i've never thought about it like that its cruel but it's the truth in a way . it's a very debating kind of subject good video
I do agree that slaughter is necessary and I agree with the idea of more discerning breeding. However, I do have a problem with who would be granted a breeding license. The big breeders often discard a horse that does not have champion potential in the initial training phase as time is money. Most of my horses originated from "backyard" breeders, who would be unlikely to get a license. These horses were bred for their disposition and soundness as the breeding animals were riding horses.
In addition, the manner in which horses are brought to the slaughter houses, and the way they are treated at the slaughter houses prior to slaughter is undeniably CRUEL and COLD HEARTED greed ... it is cheaper to kill the horses using their methods ... its all about the dollar to them. Horse lovers should STAND UP SCREAMING AND SHOUTING against horse slaughter houses!
As i said before, Horse lovers need to look at this issue logically, and with there heads and not there hearts. I love horses and i dont want to see them dead from starvation, or being hit by cars.
Do you really think that if we donated money to horse slaughter houses they would use it to come up with more humane ways to slaughter the horses??!!?? I don't think so ... I also don't think you understand people's sensitivity to the slaughter process. Dogs and cats are euthanized in a much gentler fashion because they are over populated. The slaughter house process is cruel, extremely painful method of getting rid of overpopulation.
I do understand this topic very well thank you very much, This video was made off of a paper I wrote for high school. I know whats going on, im not an idiot. The governent and USDA CAN control how money is spent in these plants how do we know unless we try? can you give me a better way to decrease the horse population other then ways i have already stated? Dogs and cats are shipped and brutally euthanized in other countries too.
As I watched this video, the thought of "STOP BREEDING THEM" kept running through my mind. I do NOT agree with the torture that horses go through on their way to the "slaughter" house and I really don't like them being killed anyhow. I think we should focus our efforts on breeding...plain and simple...anyone know who we contact to get something going??
Continuing from my first post, you've really hit the nail on the head about irresponsible horse owners. THEY are responsible for bad breeding practices and undesirable horses. I'd rather see horses killed properly here in the US than in any other country in the world. Just make sure new rules, regulations, and slaughter practices are followed so that we don't resort to just leaving more horses to painfully die from starvation and disease.
I really do agree with what you've had to say about horse slaughter and incompitent owners. If some people just realize that leaving a horse that is domesticated in the middle of nowhere to fend for itself, they will die a more painful death than a captive bolt to the head. Nature's way of thinning out horses is much crueler. In my opinion, change the habits of how horses are slaughtered in respect to the animal instead of shutting slaughter down completely.
True...But still its not right for them to suffer like that.Slaughtered horses are killed in bigger numbers each year then wild horses die.140 million horses were killed lastyear.
idk where you get that figurse from but actually 100,000 horses die yearly in slaughter. Right now we dont have any other slternetive. We cant just let them loose.
Im not saying that at all! I am saying that slaughter is necessary... actually, I explained my point of view very clearly in the video and video info.. maybe you need to re watch it
OMG I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! You speak the total truth! i am sooooooo passing this video along, and i wish that more people will come to realize the horrible truth...
I agree with you, slaughter is the only option we have to the overpopulation at this time. I don't see anyone giving an alternative. I do believe we need a better screening process and method, because the way it is now is inhumane, esspecially if they get carted over to Mexico. I'm glad you're standing up for what you belive in,even if it's not all that popular. You've earned my respect, especially in how you're handling some of the idiots here.
Just because you dont like my video doesnt mean you need to go reporting it with some iditotic reason just to report it! Its absolutly ridiculous and immature! Yes, it does show up in my emails if one of my vids gers reported!!! I dont care if you dont agree but please, all I ask is to be immatyre and accepting that people may have other opinions then your own!!
horses shouldnt be slaughtered here just for other countries some horses r being slaughteres bacuse they made one mistake or people do it cause of the money its soooo mean!!!! >:o
i saved my horse from slaughter and nothing was wrong with him.. he was a tad bit blind on his left ye and thats it i do think slaughter should be allowed O-N-L-Y if the horse is totally paralized or is suffering... but i would definitly prefer euthinazation over slaughter but most people dont wanna pay more money .. thats my opinion plz dont tell me im wrong cuz im not. but im not right so NO critisism!!!!! thanks ;-] and keep ridin *~L *~L [ those are supposed to be boots] lol
I dunno if I agree with this video being a video response to my video, but meh.
What I do NOT approve of about slaughter is the meathods, the starving, the beating, the machinery, and the casual nature. Did you know a horse may still be conscious, just paralized as they are hoisted to have their throat cut?
Slaughter is necessary ATM... but it SHOULDN'T be. It should have never been. It should be outlawed so that all unwanted horses are EUTHANISED.
Euthanisation should be the only way to get rid of unwanted horses -- it costs money, it's MUCH more humane, and it's a wate of a horse.
Why is this good?
It'll discourage irresponsible breeding. BYBs are a HUGE problem, and they need to be STOPPED. Slaughter is the easy way out for their mistakes -- people give them money for their ugly/useless horse, they get shipped away to get killed, and the owner has pocketed some money.
I thought bettering slaughter methods was one of my points, is it not? No I dont like horse slaughter, If I there was another alternative then I would be all for it but I dont. I am for euthanisation but who will pay for it? the government? the tax payers? I dont really see that happening either.
I was at an auction just last weekend and with the horse market in the state that its in most horses werent going for more than fifty bucks. So I also dont really see how they are pocketing money $50 probably doesnt even pay for the gas for them to get there.
50$ is still money, reguardless. Who will pay for the Euthanisations? THE HORSE OWNERS. A horse owner should NOT own a horse unless they can afford to get it euthed. This way irresponsible breeders are being punished by losing money, instead of getting money out of it.
I agree that owners SHOULD take on all responcibilities reguarding there horses, and that people should know all the responcibilites before buying a horse. However I doubt that will happen either. But just because they SHOULD do somthing doesnt mean they will.
But it's the responsibility of us as horse lovers to spread to horse owners (potential, current, whatever) that they HAVE THESE RESPONSIBILITIES. They need to realise that horses are a luxury -- that was the point of my video.
In our culture they are a "luxury" and in a perfect world all horses would have perfect homes with perfect care with people who love them and treat them as royalty. But unfortunatly, we are not in a perfect world. That is why we still need slaughter. One day I hope that we abolish horse slaughter all together. But as long as there are still unwanted horses slaughter will remain a necessary evil. I think you have a lovely idea but I just dont see it happening..
-.- this is why I don't associate with other horse people a lot.
It's opinions like this that keep the slaughter business open and the kill buyers in business. "What can I do? Nothing's going to change..."
YES. WE CAN CHANGE THINGS. We spread awareness, we make informative videos, we do everything in our power because at the end of the day, if it saves JUST ONE HORSE, it's worth it. It's not going to happen over night and it may very well not happen in our life time
Well im sorry, Im not trying to stay gloomy Im trying to stay realistic. I am not some hateful person who wants horses to die!! I am just trying to show people the effects of shutting down horse slaughter. We have now gotten it closed in the US... what now? Ohh yes!! They just send them to Mexico anyway where the horses are much worse off then if they could have just stayed in the US. Ok, so then we shut down all borders... now what? now that we have an extra 100,000 horses yearly, now what?
The only way we can get slaughter stopped and not have anymore neglected/unwanted horses is if we get control of the breeding. We need to start at the source of the problem instead of the end and working our way back.
Now what? Now people realise that they don't have room for the horses and breeding slows! You know what needs to be done? People need to get breeding LISCENCES. There needs to be a limit on breeding. Period. With fines bigger than kill prices.
Euthanasia needs to be made manditory. Or someone shooting their horse in the head. Nice and quiet, walk up to the horse, gun up, horse is dead.
Not days of endless torture!
Breeding isn't going to stop until there are dire conscequences. It won't.
It's opinions like this that keep the slaughter business open and the kill buyers in business. "What can I do? Nothing's going to change..."
I am rether offended by that statement, I never said that there was nothing we can do! i thought the point of my video was to take action. Just because I thought your method was a bit.. far fetched doesnt mean that I want to sit back and watch horses die. now that I understand I am agreeing.
I dont like slaughter either. I have 3 horses that I love very much and I would never send any of my horses to slaughter. However, for the sick, old, injured, neglected, and unwanted horses in the world somthing has to be done.
yeah, i have one horse named Perky, and i LOVE him and if ANYTHING happend to him, i would go CRAZY !
The unwanted horses... idk if i feel the same way because there could ALWAYS be a place besides the slaughter houses, but the neglected, im a little ify about, i mean they could always find a home, but the horses that CANT be helped, thats a diff story.
But whatever, people hve thier own opinions. This is mine.

WestlifeFan1995 1 year ago

We need to make everyone else understand.
charislynae 1 year ago 5
Even though horse slaughter is illegal in America, it is still legal in Canada and Mexico. Regardless if it's illegal here, the horses that go to auction can still be bought by meat buyers, and endure a long trip to Canada or Mexico and the slaughter trailers that were not meant for horses. I think banning horse slaughter in America was stupid, as they are still being slaughtered else where, but have to endure a long trip to a different country in terrible conditions.
lifeisrandomsoami 2 years ago
I liked the video, though I don't like the idea of slaughtering horses it is no diffrent then slaughtering a cow. I own a riding cow that I love just as much as my horses, they are no diffrent then horses they love you just as much and are just as smart yet we eat them. I feel slaughter is needed but I feel the slaughter houses need to be watched more closly and made sure things are being done right, not just with horses but with all slaughter animals.
samthesteerrider 2 years ago
Basically. Here are the issues. 1. QUIT BREEDING HORSES! we don't need anymore horses in the world. 2. Make slaughter HUMANE! Just put them down without pain or suffering. Are we to lazy to do that? Feed them, let them graze, kill one by one and show them love
MemoryofMe21 2 years ago
I don't know about privately owned horses, but I do know that wild mustangs are not starving. I've watched wild horses many, many times; those "gathered" were not starved. I've seen at least one that was starved, but I contribute that to either a medical problem or just life in the wild.
WisePillow 2 years ago
There r MILLIONS of unwanted dogs/cats who are neglected but we don't slaughter them. Its the owners responsibility to euthanize/surrender. You will have abuse til the end of the world because people are cruel & selfish. Yes we need breeding regulations, and a percent of every registration fee should be put it towards breed rescues and retirements. But slaughter is an easy excuse for slimebags to dump horses and squeeze every penny out of them.
Don't make excuses for sh*t heads.
gryphonkeen 2 years ago
Im definitely not making excuses for anyone! Yea, your right, it is the owners responsibility. But not all owners are responsible and you cant force them to be. No we dont slaughter cats and dogs but we do euthanize them. Im sure if there was as big of a market for dog and cat meat as there is horse meat we would be having the same problem with them as well.
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
I'm never going to agree with slaughter, I just can't. Imagining my horse going through that pain is unbearable.
But I just don't believe horses should be slaughtered because of our stupiid mistakes. There are over 6,000,000,000 humans on the planet, far to many in my opinion, yet, are we going to slaughter all these humans. What makes us better than them? There are humans suffering all over the world, in poverty and dying of starvation yet we aren't going to kill them. Why kill the horses?
CathInTheClouds 2 years ago
Firstly, I do value a humans life over any other, you dont have to agree, thats just my opinion.
I dont "like" slaughter by any means, i hate seeing horses suffer just as much as you do. I think it is more humane to kill them, to then let them starve to death. Being in a slaughter house for a few weeks or days is a better way to go then months upon months of starvation and agony
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
AQHA breeds approximately 150,000 horses per year...maybe they could take a hiatus? Horse slaughter is BIG business. Just like the illegal drug trade. Just like child prostitution.... You have a horse, he ages, you put him to sleep, make that part of the budget. OR don't get one, until you've saved that. Breeders can pay into a Euth fund every time one lands on the ground. By the way, horses live 25-35 years. If you are on the fence, there are alot more things you should want to know.
mactine2k7 2 years ago 5
It is a sad thought to permit the slaughter of these beautiful animals, but i have also seen the consequences of banning horse slaughter. The abuse, neglect, and abandonment that is now occuring because of closing down the plants is a much worse fate for these horses.
justgetoverit27 2 years ago
humans are over populated, should we slaughter them?
horses don't deserve to go through something so horrible. the conditions are horrid. its completely sickening.
gnomby12 2 years ago
nice vid. i totally agree with you. i also agree with pjcnet on the horse thing. when you get a horse you should keep it till it passes of a nice old age. if you arent willing to do that then dont get a horse. im for slaughter. alot of horse people get mad at me for saying that, but i dont care. there are WAY more worse things to ban than horse slaughter(animal abuse wise). again, great vid
3Barrels6Poles 2 years ago
Too many people breed horses even though they are well aware of the current overpopulation of horses. People should need a hard to obtain license in order to breed their horses, that way only certified people are able to breed their horses. Right now anyone and everyone can breed their horses and that only makes things worse.
HorsenetHorses 2 years ago
PMU and Thorobred industry breeds thousands, yes thousands per year right in front of us.
mactine2k7 2 years ago
The horses should not suffer for our pathetic stupidity, we overbred them and they must suffer for our mistakes which isn't fair to them. For every unwanted human, let's just send them to slaughter as we do with horses since that is what you're saying. Horses are living creatures upon Mother Earth as we are, and I don't care if most humans find themselves superior to all of the Universe, we are no better or intelligent then the other animals since guess what, WE ARE ANIMALS AS WELL!
KrisandGM4Life 2 years ago
The sad reality is where are all these animals supposed to go? You cant just let them go thats unrealistic. I do however have a problem with the method of the bolt gun which was designed for cattle not horses. It's seems very ineffective, in the UK we have two slaughter plants for horses and its one shot to the head. The horse is in a room alone and it dosent seem any where near as stressful for them. Why they dont all use this method is abit of a mystery to me.
dragoon650 2 years ago
You shouldn't have a horse to start with if you're not willing to look after it through ALL it's life. The way most humans treat animals is despicable. Horses and animals have as much right to live as we do, killing because there is too many is no excuse, should we kill humans because of over population? Birth control is a good method and should be with horses too, but people should be forced to look after a horse for life if they choose to have one or pass on to a reputable home.
pjcnet 2 years ago
No u shouldn't get a horse if ur not willing to look after it. But sayin so isnt goin to stop it, there will always be cases of abuse and neglect in our world, and thats just something we all have to learn. I have always valued a human life over a horses, thats just the way I have been raised. Though i dont like to see horses slaughtered i feel its better than watching them starve to death. If you knew horses at all u would know that the horse market is very down, there just arent enough homes

hmm maybe you should be leaving that comment on all the bleeding-twelve-year-old-hearts-of-america-set-all-the-horses-free! videos. thanks.
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
@ohhsnappdawg I agree with him though. The 3 in the US were foreign owned. The meat horses sell for anywhere between 25-400$ at the auctions, I know b/c I've been there. The meat is then sold for 15-30$ a lb. The owners do not pay taxes. So you tell me, where is all that money going? Certainly not to "humane methods" its going to line the bloody pockets of the bastards who own it.
gryphonkeen 2 years ago
Then animal right groups need to get more involved with bettering slaughtering methods then just trying to shut them down completely... because i dont see that ever happening. Even if the houses here in the US got shut down, the horses are just gonna end up in Mexico, and yes i have done my research and from that I know the horses are much better off getting slaughtered here then having to go to slaughter houses in mexico that are not monitored.
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
If only the government could set aside some grassland and let them graze there life out...like BLM land but for only for previously owned horses with manmade shelters to go under during harsh weather conditions...like being free but still being watched over. woudn't that be great!!! but its not gonna happen unforunately! i would let mine go and give her a chance before going to auction or a slaughter house and let nature take its course!! :)
babygirl33033 2 years ago
thats just sick. Im sorry but i would send my horse to slaughter before i let it suffer for months and month and months from starvation.
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
@ohhsnappdawg Ok, I'm kinda getting annoyed with this whole starvation thing. I'm not sure where you are coming up with figures that people are starving their horses BC slaughter is banned. Get me the facts PROVING that horses are starved because of the slaughter ban and I'll believe you. This is propaganda to hold up an ineffective defense. In case you havent noticed, Many horses were starved and beaten BEFORE going to slaughter. IVE SEEN IT AT AUCTION. Maybe U need to get some facts straight
gryphonkeen 2 years ago
I know this because i have seen it. I live in an area where lots of people go to these auctions, buy 10 horses or so, bring them home, and then i drive by everyday watching them waste away to nothing because the owners dont feed them and cant afford to. Ive called the SPCA many times but they dont do much... why? because they have nowhere to take the horses thats any better.
You are just proving my point by saying you see starving horses at auctions. THATS EXACTLY WAHT IM TRYING TO SAY!
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago
So yes, my facts are plenty straight. I know what these horses go through from first hand experience. And though my horses receive only the best care, im sick of looking at my window seeing my neighbors horses starving to death every single day knowing there is not a damn thing i can do.
ohhsnappdawg 2 years ago

dougsgirl63 2 years ago
The Killers and Auctioneers are all making money. The Overbreeders and the Associations such as the AQHA, APHA and other overbreeder associations are making money. NOTE not one of these organizations set funds for older horses nor donated to any rescues in the US or Canada. Its not unwanted horses its unsold horses at hight prices.Period..
Airspace12 2 years ago 2
You make a perfect argument. I do think we should throw an equal amount of weight into stopping overbreeding issues, but we should definitely reinstate slaughter with new regulations. If possible, the horses should be killed under veterinary supervision BEFORE they're shipped. That way, there can be no abuse, the horses receive humane deaths, and maybe eventually we can stop the process altogether by controlling our horse population. Until then, we need to do something about the problem - fast!
Kolibri2005 3 years ago
uh this is exactly what I was getting at that their needs to be slaughter plants!!!
hince the horses suffering and starving and that all the anti slaughter people were worried about was money.
You need to get your facts straight before pouncing a comment that is all for horse slaughter, I am more concerned with the horses well fare than money.
Just for future comments make sure you understand what the person is getting at before being so hatefull!!!
jfcuttin 2 years ago
Everyone expects the anti-slaughter people to 'do something with all the horses'- wait a minute, did WE breed them(and make the money)? No. Did the breeders, registries, and everyone down the line make money(and in the end the slaughterhouses?) YES. And WHY hasn't someone stepped up and done somethin about overbreeding? CUZ THE 'INDUSTRY' HAS TO HAVE AN OVERABUNDANCE OF HORSES TO KEEP THE MONEY,THE BIGGG MONEY COMIN IN. THAT is what it is REALLY all about, protecting the money, and the industry.
imdarkchylde 3 years ago
Why is it every anti-slaughter person has to say something about money??? It is about the horses well fare guys, horses are being STARVED now and mis-treated worse now than ever before...sounds like MONEY is whats on y'alls mind. :( sad really, I'd be more worried about the horse and I am.
jfcuttin 3 years ago
Well geez, then maybe you should throw your weight in and try to stop overbreeding than making stupid comments you can't back up. It doesn't matter who bred the horses...they're here. Push through anti-overbreeding bills and FIX the PROBLEMS. Don't just say "stop slaughter!" and then do nothing else. Slaughter should be better regulated, I definitely agree, but YES, we WILL have to do something with the surplus of horses until we get breeding under control. Humane slaughter's a good way.
Kolibri2005 3 years ago
Can't back my comments huh??
Are you saying horse's are living it up now?!?
OPEN YOUR EYES to the problem anti slaughter people have made, their are horses being dumped and left like they are stray dogs.
gee, you need to get a little more INFORMED on this issue at hand.
No slaughter=horses suffering
jfcuttin 2 years ago
A well aimed bullet to the head is cheaper as well, by a loving and heart broke owner, who chose NOT to make a buck off his/her loving partner's dying moments, rather than to send them to a assembly-line torturous death. Fact is, the overpopulation of horses is necessary to keep the go-thru-horses-as-you-like environment, for all the breed registries as well as the tack & supply, feed, medicines- racing and the quarter horse industry, all fed by blood money. It is all about BIG, CORRUPT, MONEY
imdarkchylde 3 years ago
well if bad owners were given a severe fine maybe the $300 to put a horse down would be worth it. I would rather let my horse starve in a field than bring it to an auction where it is terrified.
flequestrian 3 years ago
thats not going to happen.... that doesnt even make sence? Lets be realistic please. That is a really terrible thing to say! You rather have your horse suffer for endless moths of pain instead of a week to days?
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
That's terrible that you would let your horse starve rather than give it a quick death. Starvation is a horribly painful way to die. You obviously have no idea what "humane" is.
Kolibri2005 3 years ago
Unwanted horses should be put to sleep in a humane way... not sent to an auction and then shipped for days to a slaughterhouse. It's not the killing that is wrong it is the way they are killed.
flequestrian 3 years ago 2
yes, that is what SHOULD happen. But do you realize how much it costs to have a horse euthanized? between 200 and 300 dollars. Alot of people cant afford that, alot of people have no other choice. Unless they just let them starve do death and in no way is that humane.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I run a horse rescue. The pictures at the end are what I deal with. Before I started the rescue. I was a professional breeder. Pro Breeders are not the problem. Back yard breeders are. This problem should be approched as the dog and cat over population problem has been addressed. With gelding and spaying of PET horses. There should be research in a more cost effective way to spay a mare. Grant money provided for gelding horses. There are too many horses. So stop making them. Simple.
Kixbak2 3 years ago 2
I have yet seen an answer to this persons question you anti-slaughter folks... she/he asks what is going to happen to the 100,000 horses YEARLY PEOPLE!?!?! Maybe because you have NO answer other than they starve to death. The horses are suffering at YOUR cost!! You might like to see a horse starve and be very under weight but I don't. It breaks my heart to see a horse suffer this way.
jfcuttin 3 years ago
Again start at the beginning of the problem. Quit making them.
Kixbak2 3 years ago
In addition, I think people should euth their horses instead of sending them to slaughter. It's a much more humane fate and if ever given the choice I would rather euth it than potentially sending it off to the slaughter house.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
I believe this is a point that has been pointed out time, after time, after time. Its not that people dont realize that euthanasia is more humane. Its that alot of people cant afford it. people rather send there horses to slaughter and get a little money in return then pay a hefty fee to have the horse euthanized and the body disposed of.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
But that should have NEVER become the case.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago 2
What you say is true. But it has,so now we deal with it. By making grants available to people who cannot afford to have there PET horse euthanized and the body removed humanely.
Kixbak2 3 years ago
I wouldent say that is somthing that is easily reversable... if it was it would have been reversed by now.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
that's the thing. It IS easily reversable! All people have to do is breed responsibly and stop putting out crap there is no market for. All people have to do is make a commitment to horses when they decide to buy one, and realize that you can't just buy a horse and toss it aside when you have no more use for it.
They aren't hard concepts! Just people are too pig-headed to get it.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago 2
But who has that saved? no one. Instead of dying in a plant they are dying in plants they are starving.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I'm doing something about it. A lot of people are doing something about it. I e-mail plenty of breeding farms and do my best to educate them. I've changed quite a few individuals' minds about breeding their grade horses.
And I am far from alone.
Pessimists are what's making it so hard. That and those barn-blind assholes who are too selfish to open their eyes to the problem.
It would be easy if people would stop being so PROUD and selfish.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago 2
I dont see myself being pessimistic just realistic. The concept, simple. Enforcing the concept, not so simple.
Sure, the word is being spread on a individual basis. But that wont be enough. We need organizations. Ones that arent just concered with closing slaughter houses but stopping the problem at the source. i.e. breeders and owners
Slaughter houses arent the problem, ignorant horse owners are.
We also need organizations that can place horses in homes. After plants are closed.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
what they have already should be humane.but they don't use the equipment properly..shooting a mare in the shoulder instead of the head is not necessary.they have a sign in the slaughterhouse that shows the workers where to shoot the horses.but they don't do it.
alliO080808 3 years ago
People who work at slaughter houses arent monsters. They are just ordinary people who do it as there job. If you havent seen an actual video in a slaughter house before you will see that the horses can jump around alot. Im sure the workers arent intentionally shooting horses in the shoulder, accident happen!
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I have to disagree with you there. Maybe ALL of them are not monsters but a good majority of them enjoy what they do more then they should. It's one thing to make a living off something unpleasant because you need to feed your family. But it's a totally different one to do it because you get pleasure from feeling empowered. I've seen plenty of videos where the workers are screaming, cursing, and making games out of killing the animals for just 10 minutes of sick pleasure.
Angelclt 3 years ago
There are sick people every where. I would say that a very very small majority is really like that. You would have to be mentally ill to enjoy watching anything suffer. I know some people who work in slaughter facilities (cattle, pig) and they definatly dont necessarily enjoy there jobs, and to say that they do is mean and unfair.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
The fact that some do it is wrong enough. I'm not saying they all do, I said "majority". And that is correct. I'd recommend that you watch a video of the people who test on monkies. They beat them then shove tubes down their thoarts not showing a single ounce of remorse for what their doing. Or better yet go watch hidden camera videos of pig slaugter houses. I've seen plenty were the workers drag the pigs outside and throw bricks at them and jump on their heads. Denying evidence is whats unfair.
Angelclt 3 years ago
Ever seen how they kill a beef so you can have a cheese burger. Horse slaughter is much more humane.
Kixbak2 3 years ago
you obviously have not found stuff that I have found.even when the slaughter houses were open in the US the USDA hardly ever inspected the plants. They got away with SOOO much stuff that was illegal.such as a video I watched where a guy used the captive bolt gun and shot the horse in the shoulder..NOT IN THE HEAD.They don't care about the welfare of the horses.they just care about meeting their quota.the horses were being treated the same way in the US as they are in canada and mexico.
alliO080808 3 years ago
I do not believe so. Slaughter houses are poor, thanks to us. They have to kill the horses with the means that they have. I propose instead of hindering slaughter houses we help them. We donate money that can go toward creating a more humane method of slaughtering horses.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
you aren't seeing the full picture here.the majority of horses that go to slaughter are not just unwanted by everybody..they are unwanted by one person. We don't even give them a chance to find a new home..it's like "ok I don't want it, send it to the auction so a killer buyer can purchase it".that's what happens with race horses.and what about pregnant mares that get slaughtered?that baby doesn't even get a chance at life.and what about stolen horses?they don't deserve this at all!!!!
alliO080808 3 years ago
As for race horses, they all go to auction before the kill buyers. They have a chance to get a real home, but again, due to our declining economy people cant afford to keep horses. They may not be "unwanted" but there are just not enough homes to go around to save them all. If racehorses go to slaughter its the fault of the race horse industry so blame them, not the slaughter industry.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
wow..first of all the pictures you were showing of skinny and dead horses are exactly what most horses look like when they get to the slaughterhouse..where they still have to wait a long time before they are slaughtered.and did you know the majority of horses sent to slaughter are NOT ones that are unwanted?they are ones that were stolen or sold from racetracks because they are no use for the owners anymore. We don't even give the horses a chance to find a new home.
alliO080808 3 years ago
Slaughter houses dont starve there horses. That doesnt even make sence, a skinny horse isnt going to have any meat to sell! Owners starve there horses before they send them to slaughter. I would say that a very very very small percentage of horses at slaughter are stolen. Horses are very cheap right now due to our bad economy so there is no need for stealing when most slaughter houses get them for free.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I hope they open up the houses again, there are not enough rescues to take in all the horses that have no where to go and now that are starving to death, so good job all you anti slaughter people, because now they are going to all starve to death a far worse thing than being slaughtered
cowgirlstar26 3 years ago
They should let them all go...cause they should be free! They are just like humans, live freely! and on all that land that the slaughter's have, the horses could be free! Y should they be "KILLED" cause no one wants them! Somewhere in this world a kid isn't wanted but do u see them going 2 "KILLING" that kid? NO! They need 2 just stop slaughtering horses! Im going 2 fight for this one way or another! Anyone try 2 stop me then ill just fight even harder! so this is what i think about it!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, read what I told rhcp1126
hanoverianjumpers101 3 years ago
I don't agree with you. Problems like starvation only happen cos us humans don't know how to care for them and we mistreat them. We should stop slaughterhouses and release the 'unwanted' ones to go free, therefore they can live and die naturally- as they used to many years ago and survived to this very day. Who are we to play God????? It's not our decision whether horses should die because there's too many, let nature do it's own course- humans always have a need to be included in everything!
rhcp1126 3 years ago
rhcp1126, You are living in a perfect world.
"We should stop slaughterhouses and release the 'unwanted' ones to go free," and where, may I ask, are the "free" horses going to go? They're going to give the mustangs diseases, get hit my cars, and other horrible things.
hanoverianjumpers101 3 years ago
i totally agree with you in more ways than one. and i agree but the slaughter houses arent going to get support, to many complain about it being cruel and dont care enough to fix it, just sit back and say they shouldnt do that with no care to the consoqunces
hawkstorm55 3 years ago
Another thing a lot of high end breeders are slowing down on breeding because they can't afford to feed, haul their high quality stock due to the fact that supply can't keep up with demand with the overpopulation of horses. However "back yard" breeders keep breeding because they want a "baby foal" ahh isn't that sweet!
tcbqhorse 3 years ago
Thank you so much for posting this video. So many people today have no idea about any animals and see a "stop horse slaugter" video, news article, ect and think that is what needs to be done. They don't realize about the immense numbers of unwanted horses and the abuse that is going on because of them and bad owners. I wish there were more videos like this and less stop slaughter videos and then maybe people would understand. It is worse without slaughter plants.AGREE ON BREEDING CERT. 100%

if only we had the room to let them roam free , i've never thought about it like that its cruel but it's the truth in a way . it's a very debating kind of subject good video
horsemylover747 3 years ago
I do agree that slaughter is necessary and I agree with the idea of more discerning breeding. However, I do have a problem with who would be granted a breeding license. The big breeders often discard a horse that does not have champion potential in the initial training phase as time is money. Most of my horses originated from "backyard" breeders, who would be unlikely to get a license. These horses were bred for their disposition and soundness as the breeding animals were riding horses.
EeaWhyley 3 years ago
In addition, the manner in which horses are brought to the slaughter houses, and the way they are treated at the slaughter houses prior to slaughter is undeniably CRUEL and COLD HEARTED greed ... it is cheaper to kill the horses using their methods ... its all about the dollar to them. Horse lovers should STAND UP SCREAMING AND SHOUTING against horse slaughter houses!

The slaughter house process is cruel, extremely painful method of getting rid of overpopulation.
richmondmom 3 years ago

I think we should focus our efforts on breeding...plain and simple...anyone know who we contact to get something going??
xxgamexmomxx 3 years ago
Perfect. Couldn't have said it better.
ridingxruffian 3 years ago
Continuing from my first post, you've really hit the nail on the head about irresponsible horse owners. THEY are responsible for bad breeding practices and undesirable horses. I'd rather see horses killed properly here in the US than in any other country in the world. Just make sure new rules, regulations, and slaughter practices are followed so that we don't resort to just leaving more horses to painfully die from starvation and disease.
GibsonFella 3 years ago
I really do agree with what you've had to say about horse slaughter and incompitent owners. If some people just realize that leaving a horse that is domesticated in the middle of nowhere to fend for itself, they will die a more painful death than a captive bolt to the head. Nature's way of thinning out horses is much crueler. In my opinion, change the habits of how horses are slaughtered in respect to the animal instead of shutting slaughter down completely.
GibsonFella 3 years ago
This video is good, I hope more people can watch it and stop being so naive.
Horsemad1000 3 years ago
Man, you are one of the few people that understand slaughter.
ponypall888 3 years ago
True...But still its not right for them to suffer like that.Slaughtered horses are killed in bigger numbers each year then wild horses die.140 million horses were killed lastyear.
Countrystallion 3 years ago
idk where you get that figurse from but actually 100,000 horses die yearly in slaughter. Right now we dont have any other slternetive. We cant just let them loose.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
its not nesccecary.Just put em out in the wild again
Countrystallion 3 years ago
they would all starve to death..
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
So your saying slaughter is right?!?!?!?!..
Countrystallion 3 years ago
Im not saying that at all! I am saying that slaughter is necessary... actually, I explained my point of view very clearly in the video and video info.. maybe you need to re watch it
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
HELLO!! I said I agree with the vide ONE HUNDERED%! I don't disagree AT ALL! I agree with the person below me.
brackensbabe 3 years ago
unfortunatly alot of people dont agree...
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
OMG I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!! You speak the total truth! i am sooooooo passing this video along, and i wish that more people will come to realize the horrible truth...
flarenuphope 3 years ago
I agree with you, slaughter is the only option we have to the overpopulation at this time. I don't see anyone giving an alternative. I do believe we need a better screening process and method, because the way it is now is inhumane, esspecially if they get carted over to Mexico. I'm glad you're standing up for what you belive in,even if it's not all that popular. You've earned my respect, especially in how you're handling some of the idiots here.

Thank you :)
Yea I wasd starting to think all of youtube was against me! I really appreciate your comment!

I dont care if you dont agree but please, all I ask is to be immatyre and accepting that people may have other opinions then your own!!
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago

BarrandaGangsters 3 years ago
It is mean, but we need till we have another alternative.

BarrandaGangsters 3 years ago

ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago

hillface12 3 years ago
Pleas watch the video and read the video info... you obviously have not
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
i saved my horse from slaughter and nothing was wrong with him.. he was a tad bit blind on his left ye and thats it i do think slaughter should be allowed O-N-L-Y if the horse is totally paralized or is suffering... but i would definitly prefer euthinazation over slaughter but most people dont wanna pay more money .. thats my opinion plz dont tell me im wrong cuz im not. but im not right so NO critisism!!!!! thanks ;-] and keep ridin *~L *~L [ those are supposed to be boots] lol
jumper1317 3 years ago
I would never tell anyone that they are wrong just because I dont agree with them.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I dunno if I agree with this video being a video response to my video, but meh.
What I do NOT approve of about slaughter is the meathods, the starving, the beating, the machinery, and the casual nature. Did you know a horse may still be conscious, just paralized as they are hoisted to have their throat cut?
Slaughter is necessary ATM... but it SHOULDN'T be. It should have never been. It should be outlawed so that all unwanted horses are EUTHANISED.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago 5
Cont'd
Euthanisation should be the only way to get rid of unwanted horses -- it costs money, it's MUCH more humane, and it's a wate of a horse.
Why is this good?
It'll discourage irresponsible breeding. BYBs are a HUGE problem, and they need to be STOPPED. Slaughter is the easy way out for their mistakes -- people give them money for their ugly/useless horse, they get shipped away to get killed, and the owner has pocketed some money.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
I thought bettering slaughter methods was one of my points, is it not? No I dont like horse slaughter, If I there was another alternative then I would be all for it but I dont. I am for euthanisation but who will pay for it? the government? the tax payers? I dont really see that happening either.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I was at an auction just last weekend and with the horse market in the state that its in most horses werent going for more than fifty bucks. So I also dont really see how they are pocketing money $50 probably doesnt even pay for the gas for them to get there.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
50$ is still money, reguardless. Who will pay for the Euthanisations? THE HORSE OWNERS. A horse owner should NOT own a horse unless they can afford to get it euthed. This way irresponsible breeders are being punished by losing money, instead of getting money out of it.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
I agree that owners SHOULD take on all responcibilities reguarding there horses, and that people should know all the responcibilites before buying a horse. However I doubt that will happen either. But just because they SHOULD do somthing doesnt mean they will.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
But it's the responsibility of us as horse lovers to spread to horse owners (potential, current, whatever) that they HAVE THESE RESPONSIBILITIES. They need to realise that horses are a luxury -- that was the point of my video.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
In our culture they are a "luxury" and in a perfect world all horses would have perfect homes with perfect care with people who love them and treat them as royalty. But unfortunatly, we are not in a perfect world. That is why we still need slaughter. One day I hope that we abolish horse slaughter all together. But as long as there are still unwanted horses slaughter will remain a necessary evil. I think you have a lovely idea but I just dont see it happening..
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
-.- this is why I don't associate with other horse people a lot.
It's opinions like this that keep the slaughter business open and the kill buyers in business. "What can I do? Nothing's going to change..."
YES. WE CAN CHANGE THINGS. We spread awareness, we make informative videos, we do everything in our power because at the end of the day, if it saves JUST ONE HORSE, it's worth it. It's not going to happen over night and it may very well not happen in our life time
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
Well im sorry, Im not trying to stay gloomy Im trying to stay realistic. I am not some hateful person who wants horses to die!! I am just trying to show people the effects of shutting down horse slaughter. We have now gotten it closed in the US... what now? Ohh yes!! They just send them to Mexico anyway where the horses are much worse off then if they could have just stayed in the US. Ok, so then we shut down all borders... now what? now that we have an extra 100,000 horses yearly, now what?
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
The only way we can get slaughter stopped and not have anymore neglected/unwanted horses is if we get control of the breeding. We need to start at the source of the problem instead of the end and working our way back.
Stop Overbreeding
Stop The Neglect
Educate Others
Help New Owners
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
It won't.
almightymarshmellow 3 years ago
Ok, so we agree that breeders need licences, but I think I also have already stated that, not just in my comments, but in my video as well.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
It's opinions like this that keep the slaughter business open and the kill buyers in business. "What can I do? Nothing's going to change..."
I am rether offended by that statement, I never said that there was nothing we can do! i thought the point of my video was to take action. Just because I thought your method was a bit.. far fetched doesnt mean that I want to sit back and watch horses die. now that I understand I am agreeing.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I agree with you !
The slaughter methods NEED and MUST be changed !!
Your exactly right, i mean there are some horses that ARW concious while they are getting thier throats slit, and thats HORRIBLE !
And i agree, Euthanisation should be the only way, its much more humane, just like you said.
I defianlty agree !
horsebackchick777 3 years ago
i very much agree. The horible methods are uneceptible.
horselover987654321 3 years ago
I definatly agree with making breeders get licenses, because THEY are causing alot of problems.
I hate seeing horses end up in slaughter houses, but you are making a point, and i now see that.
Im not technically pro-slaughter because i HATE it, but i do agree with many points in this video.
Good work on it though.
horsebackchick777 3 years ago
I dont like slaughter either. I have 3 horses that I love very much and I would never send any of my horses to slaughter. However, for the sick, old, injured, neglected, and unwanted horses in the world somthing has to be done.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
yeah, i have one horse named Perky, and i LOVE him and if ANYTHING happend to him, i would go CRAZY !
The unwanted horses... idk if i feel the same way because there could ALWAYS be a place besides the slaughter houses, but the neglected, im a little ify about, i mean they could always find a home, but the horses that CANT be helped, thats a diff story.
But whatever, people hve thier own opinions. This is mine.
horsebackchick777 3 years ago
There are over 100,000 unwanted horses in the US yearly... Im a little iffy on if we could find homes for every single one.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
ahh, nevermind then.. i didnt realize how high the numbers were, yearly.
horsebackchick777 3 years ago
i dont agree
barbarolover 3 years ago 5
well thats a shame.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
if slaughter was more humane then i would but since is not. i dont.
thats all
barbarolover 3 years ago
Making better slaughter methods is one of my points, is it not?
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
i didnt pay that much attention.
i had to go some where and i was only a min into the video
barbarolover 3 years ago
ok...?
I would appreciate if you would watch the whole video before you commented.. that way you would atleast understand whats going on.
ohhsnappdawg 3 years ago
I agree with this video 100%!!
