you really helped me! I looked for something else but you tought me how to hold this thing right and how to not murder the strings lol:) sorry for my bad english!
Thank you so much, you're helping a lot. Now if I may ask a question, what advice would you give to a lefty that only has 3 fingers on his strumming hand? My biggest problem is that it feels awkward when I'm holding a pick, no matter what I do.
thanks for the video. it really helped me out. before, i want to break my guitear becuase it really sucks, but now, everytime i remember this video, it gives me more and more inspiration to play the guitar... THANKS! :)
so what if I want to pick out a melody on guitar? Not asking how to shred or anything, but I still somehow have issues with this. Either I miss the string entirely, I hit the wrong string, or for some reason the pick won't go all the way through.
I've been playing guitar for about 7 years and I've never played with a pick lol. I just got used to strumming with my nails and playing notes with my fingers, but when I decided to try it out with a pick (for better sound) I played like a beginner on his very first day of guitar playing. I feel like I suck now when I know I don't lol.
A tip that I figured out with learning the rhythm is to follow the drum beat. For me, rhythm for strumming was natural because I make drum beats on my legs or on tables or whatever when I listen to music. If you are trying to find the rhythm for a song. Use your hands and make the beat to the song on your legs or something then when you get that, do the exact same rhythm with your strumming hand. (To hear the rhythm well, place one hand over the strings so that it mutes them and then strum.)
the problem with this dude is you are progressing a chord without sayin what chord you are switchin too are you high, good strumming but can u show more finger chord change plz need a bigger camera
i have been playing guitar for 9 months now everyday and all my guitar teacher ever taught me was tablature which is really awesome and i am amazing at it now but this video really helped me learn to play with strumming and i already knew all the main chords cause i taught those to myself, so thanks alot this video REALLY helped :D
Thank you so much! I've been trying off and on to learn guitar for QUITE a while. My main problem is that it sounds really dull when I strum/ try chords- am I pressing too hard on the strings with my fingers or the pick or am I not pressing hard enough on either of the two? How hard should I strum?
Sorry if that was confusing/ sounds stupid. I really want to learn. :) Thanks!!
@arebutada there is no secret. The only way to get better at anything is to keep doing it over and over no matter how long it takes until you get it. Good luck
Yea.....uh...how do you know how to figure how fast to strum and the rythymm? The songs that I see have these chords written above them but... how fast?
I can strum upwards, but I tend to do the exact same strumming pattern for every new song try to play (D DUDU). I need to work on getting the beats and the rhythm going...thanks for this vid!
I've been learning to play guitar non-stop for few days, but have had trouble strumming especially up strumming, but the comments you made at 3:55 about too much muscle really helped, thank you!
I'm a left handed player who owns an electric guitar strung for a lefty and an acoustic strung for right handed playing, Is it a good idea to restring the acoustic? Because some people tell me i can and others say it will wreck the guitar.
Very well done thank you, you broke it down for beginners (me) to work on some techniques with some entertainment...not as easy as people think it is to do.

@EpiphoneLPJrGuitar the only advice I can give you is to not overthink it. Just FEEL what will work for you. If you want to get good at up picking then focus about 15 to 30 minutes a day on ONLY doing up picks. Good luck and god bless.

Hi, I'm trying to learn the fundamentals and I'm wondering about up-strumming/alternate picking. Is there a certain length of not that it is reserved for? For example, do you recommend only pick/strum up during 1/8 notes and 1/16 notes?
You have no idea how much of a better guitar player this video made me in just 10 minutes. I was starting to think i havn't improved even after weeks and weeks of practice and it seem it was mostly down to poor strumming technique.
@destinyhopefan112 practice practice practice. But try this.... try totally relaxing your hand and angle the pick like a rock skipping water. Change the angle on the up and the down strum. But stay relaxed. If you try to muscle the pick through the strings you will always have a hard time. Good luck and happy playing :)
Yay! I can strum!!! Thx so much for posting this video it really helped me. I just have one question, what would be an easy song to practice my strumming with?
Great video- I really like that guitar too (314ce?). Was wondering what your thoughts were on it. I'm a HUGE Dave fan- really like your one sweet world stuff- looking for something that can give me something close to dave's sound. Would you recommend it? Price point is basically no more than 1000 (used is ok)
Thank you! This is the best video on the why and how of strumming. And I viewed a lot of videos on struming. Most instructors assume the beginner knows more than he actually does. Some beginners, like me, are absolutely clueless about these basic actions.

hi!! just wanted to ask how to strum with your barre hands..because basically i just got my guitar yesterday and im really confuse because this is the first time that i held a guitar....im so rubbish in it..how to.. pls :) and i didnt get the e+,em..and all of that shit,...and i dont want a pic..
Thank you so much. I've been doing guitar purchasing research for a few weeks now and in doing so have stumbled across MANY "how to" videos. This is by far the most well thought out and organized I've happened across.

Thank you so much. I've been doing guitar purchasing research for a few weeks now and in doing so have stumbled across MANY "how to" videos. This is by far the most well thought out and organized I've happened across.
Please keep it up!
