  • what kind of guitar is this???? :O :O

  • Thank you so much, you're helping a lot. Now if I may ask a question, what advice would you give to a lefty that only has 3 fingers on his strumming hand? My biggest problem is that it feels awkward when I'm holding a pick, no matter what I do.

  • @luckerIV hey mann. Practise. I couldnt do too when i just started. But ull pick it up in a couple of days

  • dude. so much help. thank you. and right after this i totally went to Crash Into Me. :P

  • Just starting out sooo thanks for tips !

  • what if my pick keeps falling out my hand and can a rest my hand one the bridge

  • so what if I want to pick out a melody on guitar? Not asking how to shred or anything, but I still somehow have issues with this. Either I miss the string entirely, I hit the wrong string, or for some reason the pick won't go all the way through.

  • " you really wanna be relaxed with your picking " :D

  • thank you sooo much

  • Name of the guitar ... ?

  • You're an amazing teacher. One thing I can't seem to get my head around is strumming upwards.. It sounds dreadful when I do it o.0

  • I like what you say at 5:30 onwards! :) x

  • You're a great teacher :D

  • Whats the songs name at 7:25?

  • @zeldmanis It's "Crash Into Me".

  • Ha! Someone got into it towards the end! lol

  • Yay, thanks for this. I'd been getting kind of discouraged about my guitar, but this was really encouraging! :)

  • lol...in danish "pick" means "pik" which means cock

  • From 0:45 to 0:50 sounded so wrong...

  • @Kash255 HAHA!!

  • i realise that the secret is just relax...u guys ply music for relax rite?

  • i wish guitar was only about using the pick... my teacher is teaching me how to use my pinky, ring and middle finger to play but it's so hard

  • u explain very well , thanx :)

  • Thanks man helps alot

  • Plugfather . com has some great FREE guitar lessons, online guitar tuner, chords and tutorial videos that show you how to play songs on guitar.

  • This has helped me soooo much! The pick had been catching on the bottom string EVERY TIME, but now it's all good!

  • I'VE GOT BLISTAH'S ON MY FINGAH'S!

  • i try but i fail i suck at guitar im soooo shit and the skin comes of my skin i got a fender medium too :/

  • I've been playing guitar for about 7 years and I've never played with a pick lol. I just got used to strumming with my nails and playing notes with my fingers, but when I decided to try it out with a pick (for better sound) I played like a beginner on his very first day of guitar playing. I feel like I suck now when I know I don't lol.

  • @Str1keRS1R Im a beginner and I try not to use the pick... I like the "feel" of the strings when Im plucking them :D

  • What guitar is that?

  • Is the chord procession G-C-D-C-G ??

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you. You are one of the people who helped me when I started playing the guitar. Much appreciated dude.

  • you make it look so easy! im a beginner and im having so much trouble, but thanks for the video (:

  • I've been lightly practising guitar for an.. embarrassing amount of time by now and when i changed the pic position i found it so much easier xD doh.

  • what were the chords that you played? xD I'm neww.

  • WHICH IS HIS GUITAR? THE MODEL, PLEASE

  • Dave Matthews. <3

  • A tip that I figured out with learning the rhythm is to follow the drum beat. For me, rhythm for strumming was natural because I make drum beats on my legs or on tables or whatever when I listen to music. If you are trying to find the rhythm for a song. Use your hands and make the beat to the song on your legs or something then when you get that, do the exact same rhythm with your strumming hand. (To hear the rhythm well, place one hand over the strings so that it mutes them and then strum.)

  • for my first try ... I got it right away .. I may not be a fast learner but I just got it right away!

  • thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou

  • LOL, this is AMMATURE stuff.

  • omg dude ur sooo funny. i want u to be my teacher ahahah

  • Wow, you are a good teacher, just like MikesMusic123.

  • Thank you!

  • im fustrated :/..ill come back later...

  • Enrique is your brother,right???

  • i found that it is much easier for me to strum with my hands. that way i can really feel what i am doing on the guitar. but thats just me...

  • Same when i try it just makes a metal horrible sound :L

  • the problem with this dude is you are progressing a chord without sayin what chord you are switchin too are you high, good strumming but can u show more finger chord change plz need a bigger camera

  • excellent work, show me how you move your fingers from one chord to another that will help my friend, 1234, 1234 to feckin which chord

  • very helpful thanks

  • i have been playing guitar for 9 months now everyday and all my guitar teacher ever taught me was tablature which is really awesome and i am amazing at it now but this video really helped me learn to play with strumming and i already knew all the main chords cause i taught those to myself, so thanks alot this video REALLY helped :D

  • i've been training for 4 month but i cant strum, freakin hard, but i dont give up. thanks for doin lesson for free, rly helpful.

  • Thank you so much! I've been trying off and on to learn guitar for QUITE a while. My main problem is that it sounds really dull when I strum/ try chords- am I pressing too hard on the strings with my fingers or the pick or am I not pressing hard enough on either of the two? How hard should I strum?

Sorry if that was confusing/ sounds stupid. I really want to learn. :) Thanks!!

  • hey man, what is your guitar? it's awesome:D

  • i love daveeeeee! i will learnnnn!

  • I've been practicing it for 3 weeks now. but i still can't do it!! whats the secret? tell it to me..

  • @arebutada Lots of practice.

  • @arebutada

3 weeks is not tat long!

  • @arebutada 3 weeks is a drop in the bucket my friend. Just keep at it... good luck!

  • @arebutada i know what u fell man haha

  • @arebutada there is no secret. The only way to get better at anything is to keep doing it over and over no matter how long it takes until you get it. Good luck

  • @arebutada then guitar playing is not for you!!!

  • @arebutada Its All in you!!!!!!!!

  • @arebutada maybe your not cut out to play guitar?

  • @arebutada playing guitar is all about repeating, i've played for 4 years now i cant still can't strum well!:D

  • lost it at 7.30.....you went all fancy!

  • You are really helpful thank!

  • Yea.....uh...how do you know how to figure how fast to strum and the rythymm? The songs that I see have these chords written above them but... how fast?

  • this was good!

  • I cant strum upwards without a pick. :P

  • I can strum upwards, but I tend to do the exact same strumming pattern for every new song try to play (D DUDU). I need to work on getting the beats and the rhythm going...thanks for this vid!

  • @pitalovesmusic i do that too.....it is very frustrating.....my dad and now my son are absolute wizz's on the guitar.....so not fair!

  • When I try to strum with a pick, and be 'gentle' the pick starts to fall out my hand? If I tighten the grip it's like at what you said 3:55!?!!?

  • @COD000FTW Try not to think about it too much. Hold the pick naturally. Like you're holding a glass of water or a piece of paper. Just...hold it! :)

  • I'm not good at strumming up:(

  • my left fingers are turning blue and sore-- BUT I AIN'T GIVING UP!! :DD

  • @Izmee17 whua so good keep trying my finger is also like that

  • It's been helpful. I have difficulty also on up strum. I guess I will keep practicing.

    Thank you for the vid.

  • what song were you playing at 7:26? :)

  • Thank you, very helpful!

  • can you tell me what chord progression you're playing? G major, C major, and then?

  • I wish i could see what your left hand is doing, i have no idea what frets you are playing

  • Nice Video

  • I've been learning to play guitar non-stop for few days, but have had trouble strumming especially up strumming, but the comments you made at 3:55 about too much muscle really helped, thank you!

  • Thank you! Your very helpful.

  • i love your voice

  • "It's not too stiff and just the right size."

  • NEVER STOPS! NEVER! :D nice guide +rep ;D

  • Awesome video man! Thanks! I'm about to go practice right now!

  • my guitar sounds wayyy too loud and deep or something, never as good as yours sounds. It's tuned properly and everything, help? =S

  • I'm a left handed player who owns an electric guitar strung for a lefty and an acoustic strung for right handed playing, Is it a good idea to restring the acoustic? Because some people tell me i can and others say it will wreck the guitar.

  • When you get into the chord transitions, which chords are you hitting? Thanks for the help!

  • i can't even hold the plectrum... haha :(

  • Treat your guitar like U treat yourself and people will treat you nicely. Hehehe.

  • Very well done thank you, you broke it down for beginners (me) to work on some techniques with some entertainment...not as easy as people think it is to do.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • dude ive been trying this for 2month and idk if im doing my upstrum corretly plz anybody help on this also if u vid's to show me plz do

  • @EpiphoneLPJrGuitar the only advice I can give you is to not overthink it. Just FEEL what will work for you. If you want to get good at up picking then focus about 15 to 30 minutes a day on ONLY doing up picks. Good luck and god bless.

  • he says something about the angle u hold ur pic pay close attention to that and then try other angles and see what wors with u

  • Nice video and groove.

Can you let me know what song the strumming and chord progression are from 830 onwards? SOme Dave matthews song? I heard something about "grace 3" but I can't find the song..

Or do you have some form of tabs for it?

  • YOU'RE SO AWESOME!

Thank you. <3 and I love how you added some humour to it.

  • tnks brother....

  • Hi, I'm trying to learn the fundamentals and I'm wondering about up-strumming/alternate picking. Is there a certain length of not that it is reserved for? For example, do you recommend only pick/strum up during 1/8 notes and 1/16 notes?

  • im so confused because i don't know when to stroke upwards, can you help me with this i''d really appreciate it. thank you

  • dude you're amazing

  • You have no idea how much of a better guitar player this video made me in just 10 minutes. I was starting to think i havn't improved even after weeks and weeks of practice and it seem it was mostly down to poor strumming technique.

  • omg xD it's been so long since i made the comment "I cant strum upwards".

    I still cant. :3 I guess I'll keep practicing

  • @destinyhopefan112 practice practice practice. But try this.... try totally relaxing your hand and angle the pick like a rock skipping water. Change the angle on the up and the down strum. But stay relaxed. If you try to muscle the pick through the strings you will always have a hard time. Good luck and happy playing :)

  • Thanks! This really helps.

  • bah this is picking not true strumming

  • Yay! I can strum!!! Thx so much for posting this video it really helped me. I just have one question, what would be an easy song to practice my strumming with?

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

  • Great video- I really like that guitar too (314ce?). Was wondering what your thoughts were on it. I'm a HUGE Dave fan- really like your one sweet world stuff- looking for something that can give me something close to dave's sound. Would you recommend it? Price point is basically no more than 1000 (used is ok)

  • Thank you! This is the best video on the why and how of strumming. And I viewed a lot of videos on struming. Most instructors assume the beginner knows more than he actually does. Some beginners, like me, are absolutely clueless about these basic actions.

  • Thank you. This was helpful and simple. I like. =]

  • i used to play piano and this all of a sudden made my musical knowledge better if that made sense.

  • Well at least now I know how to strum the guitar! the sucky part is my brother hates when I play haha! I suck extremely coz i got my guitar two days ago

  • CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHAT THE NAME OF THE SONG IN 7:26 PLEASE I NEED IT

  • @alibaliist Crash into me by Dave Matthews Band.

  • "Poor guitars. They don't deserve that kind of abuse!" :) 4:05

  • this was one of the most helpful videos everyone else uses terms that make it sound complicated but i can actually understand what ur trying to say! thank you!!

  • i play with CF Martin picks. i love them! Heavy is my personal preference. it feels best to me when i have the pick between my thumb and my middle finger actually. i don't know why. i learned the same way you are teaching. but after about 6 years of playing...it just grew on me to hold it a different way

  • hye .i'm a beginner !i know the chord but i just poor in strumming ! this vid helps alots !

  • @duhkon i have the same issue...i was trying to learn ' the only exception' by paramore

  • thank you for this video. .i'm learning a little bit. .

    =)

  • guitar is so hard to learn. I'm just bought my first one a week ago... I don't know how long before I can get even close to as good as you

  • Would please show me how to strum on 3/4 , 2/2, 6/4 & 6/8 time signature. thanks!

    thanks ;)

  • i cant strum upwards. I dont get it. the pick like skips a few.

  • I can strum. I have a problem with timing and strumming with too much arm movement.

  • i know how to strum chords that all strings are played (for example g), but chords like dm that don't use all the strings i find really really hard to strum, especially upwards... if you could somehow help me with that it would be much appreciated (:

  • Ok I practiced your technique and am doing ok...but now I need to see your left hand to see where the chords are...will you post a video with the exact same technique but show your left hand!

  • @thebandittransam this video is about the picking hand and not the fretting hand.

  • i need help on strumming. i need my brain to program on strumming. it is really hard strumming and i am not good at playing frat to frat. my finger is quite small and i cant really stretch it good.

  • thx bro u helped me alot

  • Thank you so much. I've been doing guitar purchasing research for a few weeks now and in doing so have stumbled across MANY "how to" videos. This is by far the most well thought out and organized I've happened across.

    Please keep it up!
