It's like trying to watch someone reinvent the wheel, except they are still working with a square. Still, this might be the one phone Richard Stallman feels secure enough to use, assuming he can erect his own "freeom based" cell tower.
It isn't intended for end-users, but software developers and FOSS enthusiasts. I don't see why you're complaining if you're neither of those. Their site clearly says so. And please, pay no attention to the ramblings of the FSF, this phone is not a direct competition to the iPhone (yet).

OMFG!! You CAN'T be serious!! LOL!! People actually PAY for this thing?? Browser with huge SCROLLBARS??!
But hey, I know full well what a JOKE this thing is. I have two videos posted on the subject... check 'em out. But careful, it's very painful! But then again... which freetard project ISN'T?? :-))))
This thing looks and feels like the friggen COMMODORE 64 of phone's!!
The coolness of a VGA screen :) but it could have been a bit larger, anyway even if the GUI should be reviewed a bit this thig is new and has a huge potential being an open-source project. Just love it.
love the page loading sounds - reminds me of my first debian box, no sound but i learned to recognise the sound of an email arriving from the sound of the disk activity ... TWTD
i love the idea of this phone... im not feeling the text input i thought it would have a touchscreen keyboard rather than sharing the letters with the numeric keypad like i normal phone
Wait so it can connect to a wifi network off a wireless router and does the phone company charge for such usage? or is it using a phone tower to gain internet access? I am really considering this as my next phone b/c I enjoy the use of linux.
It has built in Wi-Fi (for hotspots, duh) and GPRS (cell towers), and no, they don't charge you. No company would charge you for connecting to a freakin' Wi-Fi hotspot.
And/or include a stylus that fits in the device. If I'm going to be carrying something like that around, I don't want a monster pen just to use the touchscreen.
What is that sound when you're loading a webpage? Does the phone actually make that sound?
Also, is the freerunner running in the video still using the gtk-interface? 'Cause I heard the switched to E17/Qt because of slow performance with GTK...
Is this using qtopia or the default openmoko distribution?
Can you get a browser, GPS app, and tether under qtopia yet?

This is openmoko... You can get a browser yes and a GPS app to I think

It's using Wi-Fi, so it's as free as browsing the internet with your laptop on a wireless network.

They need to make the interface a little more finger-friendly

I think that noise is the wifi interfering with the internals of the camera. Wifi, GSM traffic and even cordless phones can do that...
